The final report of the Anambra Truth, Peace and Justice Commission, established by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo to investigate the remote and immediate causes of insecurity in Anambra state and by extension, the South East region has been submitted in a public presentation. At the event held at Government House Awka, Governor Soludo commended the Commission's chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Secretary Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and of the Commission for their painstaking work, their commitment and the "historic" nature of the report. The Governor highlighted the report's potential to serve as a national framework for addressing security challenges. Governor Soludo expressed concern about the impact of crime and violence on young people, calling their deaths an unnecessary waste when their camps are invaded to flush them out. He pledged swift action based on the Commission's recommendations, outlining plans to dissolve his cabinet into sub-committes in analyzing and implementing the recommendations. The Governor emphasized the need for collaboration with federal agencies, regional governments, security services including the State Vigilante Group, and the local communities, stating his plans to share the report with national security agencies and work with neighboring states to address the cross-border nature of criminal activities. The Governor reiterated his commitment to achieving sustainable peace in the region, assuring citizens that he will "read every sentence" in the report and ensure its recommendations are implemented for a safer future. He stressed the importance of community involvement, including religious institutions, in tackling the challenges, describing the necessary approach as a "crusade" requiring collective action. Earlier, Chairman of the Commission, Professor Odinkalu, thanked the Governor, and Commission partners, UNDP for entrusting them with the task. Professor Odinkalu who was the former Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, noted that the biggest structural factor in violence in communities is the political economy of land and that whilst separatist agitation is a potent issue, the IPOB/ESN narrative as the major factor is not an accurate analysis. He argued that while Lagos is gaining land, Anambra is losing land due to ecological pressure, crises in leadership, and impunity. "The Commission surveyed 66 communities in the state, documenting cases of traditional rulers, security agents, presidents-general (PGs), and community who have disappeared and remain missing". Professor Odinkalu however, emphasized the need to end the use of the term "unknown gunmen," especially by the media, develop a 25-year security strategy to reform community governance and establish an agency for the protection of victims and ability for violence. 1 Like |

Oti is doing wonders in his state while soludo is submitting white and blue papers reports on security in his state . If he is a man with common sense he should reach out to Peter Obi and ask him the template he used in making anambra the safest state in Nigeria for five years consecutively

Professor Chidi Odinkalu should go and contest for guber election in his home state. How can someone as enlightened and smart as Prof be watching the crook, Hope Uzodinma, destroy his home state and just wouldn't say a word? Well done, Gov Soludo! It's obvious that since you and Otti became governors in Anambra and Abia States respectively, the two states have become relatively peaceful. |

Goodnewsforlife:I thought you people like a lawless country and we’re happy with our judiciary being diminished. If Nigeria was a working country like we want James Nwa for would have been in jail telling Nigerians what he knows about those killings. Peter Obi worked with John haruna who was the head of the security outfit they put together drawn from men from police B division, SARs, mopol, army, navy , Air Force etc they relied more on intelligence to nip crime in the bud and were not blood thirsty killers like James Nwafor who enjoys toture and extra judicial killings |
