Hello, good day all. Someone based in Uk paid school fees (3500pounds) for my family member last year. He paid with the exact exchange rate as at then, (Black market). He charged us for the services and we paid expensively for it. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it to UK due to the school inability to issue him CAS because it was late already. Now we are talking about collecting the school fees back, we were advised to open a domiciliary and ask the guy to send it in pounds. He refused and said he will only send the amount we paid to him in naira, we didn't pay him in pounds. Please what do you guys think?

You can gain or lose money with refunds because currency conversion fluctuates and in this case, you gained 🤑

If you know anyone else in the UK, ask him to transfer the money there and see what he says.

You paid the equivalent of 3500 in naira...if he doesn't want to pay pounds he should pay the current equivalent of 3500£ in naira .. he's a crook..

Or get someone's UK ...and tell him to pay what back what the school refunded to him....

He said he will only give us the amount we paid for school fees in naira as at last year in naira. We don't know what to do because the school may not accept another .

That's not right...he's a crook...

U will have to try and engage the school...that the person that paid on ur behalf was a money payment agent.......and crediting him back might cause the money to be lost as he was only someone u engage his services through online sources

Just ask if they can kindly allow can u submit ur own domiciliary reading the name of the student....

This won’t be possible because the school can only credit the the money originated from.

Providing another is like someone gaining access to the email address and trying to divert funds.

Better you work with whoever made the payment and reach a of compromise.

Someone else that's not the applicant gained access to the email ....and decided to have dorm in the name of the applicant??

There is no harm in trying..if the school refuses...then she can go and face the loss

It doesn't work that way. Unfortunately he transacted with an individual at his own risk.

Refunds are made at the rate of exchange in force on the date the refund is processed. This is what all businesses do.

Some people thinks doing busines with ndividuals is same thing as institutions. Truths hurts but he will learn when normal money return to his like he it left

That's so unfair, so if 1naira had equalled £1, would he have offered the exact naira value you paid after he receives the refund of £3500?

The school is paying back £3500, he should pay you the naira equivalent, he can also charge for his services as he did earlier. You paid a service charge and he should refund your money at the prevailing rates.

I think even the banks refund at prevailing exchange rates, he is just being crook and wicked minded. My naija people!

But he charged them for the service. Also if the naira had appreciated massively against the pounds, would he have insisted on returning the exact naira value when he gets refunded £3500?

The matter go long if we drag am but always use family and close friends for any transaction abroad. They are the only one that cares every other person doesn't give a damn when it comes to money. I have also seen someone helped pay for ihs and when the applicant got care job switch the person no gree release ihs refund. They may claim they have completed their busines going back to them again is another fresh business

But paid for a service rendered 🤔. That's why the bolded is called currency conversion / rate of exchange / currency exchange / foreign exchange 🙂.

He did not offer them currency conversion service , if he did they would have paid the school fees directly themselves.
