The director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr. Sam Amadi, has described the comment of former Military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, regarding the Biafra war as disgraceful.

Amadi said the Biafra war prosecuted by Gown was needless and showed lack of wisdom.

Posting on social media, the sociopolitical analyst accused Gowon of seeing the civil war as an achievement.

He wrote: “What’s bad about Gowon’s comment is that he thinks prosecuting a civil war an achievement. It is actually a monumental failure that a nation went to war under his watch. To be proud of that failure is disgraceful.

“The war was needless, infantile and evidence of lack of wisdom.”

Gowon, who ruled Nigeria between 1966 and 1975, had recalled how they said he could not prosecute the civil war because he was slow.

Addressing journalists after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Gowon said, “If I can , when I was fighting the war I was told I was too slow and that probably Nigeria cannot make it and that we should now seek for discussion. Well, did we do it or not? They probably do not know the problem underground so that is where we are.”

The war wasn't needless. If the ibos had taken only their igboland, they would have likely succeeded. But the encroachment into other minorities land made the war mandatory.

Ojukwu killed those children NOT Gowon. Gowon was ready to supply food via the land borders/crossing so that the relief can be checked for weapons, but Ojukwu said NO.

Ojukwu wanted air delivery since was including weapons with the relief being flown into Biafria.
Ojukwu later on tried to use the starvation as war propaganda.

Gowon was not to blame for the civil war. The events that led to that tragedy were well out of his control. Most Nigerians don't read history books nowadays preferring to rather get their facts from social media and people like Mr Amadi and co.

There's a deep-seater envy and hatred for Igbo among Nigerians. The man is just telling you how it is though he won't tell you they'd have been beaten blue black by the ill-equipped Biafran forces were it not for the Russians, Egyptians and Britain. This is why I always advocate for an Igbo country, not even Biafra. I assure you that Gowon would unite with Fulani murdering his people if the adversary is Igbo. The Aburi agreement was not binding before consultation with the Nigerian people. Gowon consulted and he was advised accordingly. Ojukwu thought he was smart by using his Oxford learning to bamboozle his peers into g an agreement that would have been the end of Nigeria, until he met his match in others as learned as he was. The rest is history

Gowon thought fighting war and winning could be compared to this.
