… Extends Partnership Offer to Other States at Affordable Rates

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has begun fabricating waste bins for Ekiti State in a partnership aimed at tackling a myriad of waste management and environmental challenges.

Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who disclosed this in his office on Tuesday, noted that LAWMA remained committed to ensuring proper waste management practices, within and outside the State, adding that Lagos State was willing to and partner with other States in all areas of waste management.

He said, "I am happy to announce the partnership between LAWMA and Ekiti State Government, which will see us fabricate their waste bins at a reasonable cost. By fabricating waste bins in-house, we gain greater control over quality, production speed, and ultimately, cost-effectiveness”.

“This allows us to not only ensure a steady supply of bins for Lagos, but also help us to extend our to other states like Ekiti, which is currently a prime beneficiary of this initiative. LAWMA has assisted some other States before now and we are willing to do more".

Gbadegesin averred that the partnership with Ekiti State shows LAWMA's proactive approach to environmental issues, adding that the Ekiti project would serve as a pilot programme, paving the way for similar partnerships with other states.

"We believe that effective waste management is not just a Lagos issue, but a national concern. LAWMA's door is open to any state seeking our assistance. We are offering our expertise to provide technical , training and even manpower, to help other states develop and implement efficient waste management systems", he said.

The LAWMA boss noted that the Authority’s Engineering Department, known for its ingenuity and resourcefulness, has developed a robust and efficient waste bin fabrication process, adding that the department utilised locally sourced materials to produce durable bins, for diverse waste management needs.

“LAWMA's in-house bin fabrication initiative offers several advantages beyond cost-effectiveness and quality control. It fosters skill development and job creation within the agency, promotes local content utilisation, and reduces reliance on imports. Hence, other states who are interested can get the bins at affordable rates”, he stated.

The ones produced in Nigeria are not of high quality for trash to comfortably STAY, dance and relax in grin. They should budget millions of dollars to import from China. This is the irony of Nigeria/Africa of today.

Waste management is very important.

My final year project was based on waste management.

Design and construction of a solar powered automatic waste bin with an SMS alert system.

When the waste bin is full, the system locks itself and displays the level of the wastebin on the LCD screen attached to the waste bin, preventing anyone from dumping in it. This waste bin also alerts waste management authorities by sending an SMS alert with its location of the bin to waste management authorities from time to time.

There is actually a need for greater collaboration between south western states. The current set of governors should go back to the DAWN documents and work together to achieve economic cooperation in the region. The western rail network that is designed to connect the six south west should be given urgent priority.

They should concentrate more on recycling plants.
Turning waste to wealth.
For power generation, especially plastic bottle recycling, plastic bottles are becoming a menace to the state especially when it rains.
Plastic bottle is becoming the leading cause of drainage blockage in Lagos state.

My proposal for SW is Lagos investing in its neighboring states...this is a good start. They need to encourage recycling as well...Lagos should pay Oyo State and Ogun State to recycle their products...there is a lot of potential here. The trains can be used for waste disposal and recycling of products...this lady recycling tires into rubber tiles should be ed...we can even mandate such in our schools...let us think big and create jobs jobs jobs.

Awesome development, however this can be fabricated by Ekiti artisans to provide employment opportunities and save costs...... The best that could happen is to send your metal fabricators to Lagos to learn for few months and bring them back to come and train people .....

This will boost economy and provide employment opportunities......now I know why Lagos is leading........

Ther must be a working solid waste management system where these skips are emptied on schedule or else they will quickly turn into massive refuse dumps.
