Just have the means to take care of them, and make sure the cat you're adopting has a personality and temperament that suits your taste. That's if you're adopting an adult. Or you adopt a kitten and watch it grow.

And if you're a first time cat daddy or mummy and you're planning on adopting kittens, it's advisable you adopt 2. The 2 will teach each other how to play and behave. Also having kids around can also impact on the type of cat you should adopt.

Must have:

Litter box
Scratch post
Stainless food and water bowls
Toys and treats.

You can replace litter box with a carton fill of sand.
