Ibadan is another option for TEF exams and Cotonou, Bénin is also an option.

I've written TCF and it's what I personally recommend for this immigration journey as far as french is concerned.
Although please do your research through Google, on the exam formats.

Honestly no, but I see two weeks sometimes.
For me, I got my result exactly one week to the day.

That's long. I think it's center dependent. Call the centre you intend to take the exam and ask them. They'll probably give you the maximum number of weeks.

If you're ready though take the exam, getting the results won't be much of an issue.

are you sure about Ibadan? I know they hold classes, but nothing online shows they conduct the exam. I may drive by there soon enough, but do you by any chance have a ...That I can speak with about confirmation of this/booking?

You'll get a mix of people here who have done both. I'll always pick TCF but it's kind of a confirmation bias as it's the only one I've done.

Try to do a simple google or even YouTube search to compare both. You can use the search button for this thread too.

I'll add that if french listening is a true weakness for you, TCF is a trap...lol, although this can be overcome.
I also don't know much about the new TEF format though I see it somewhat resembles the TCF format and is of shorter length. You may find someone who has written to find out.

Last year before Alliance Française got suspended from conducting TEF, I ed AF Ibadan and I was informed that they conduct TEF exams. Get their telephone number and email before embarking on the trip to Ibadan.

It would be difficult to find someone, who has attempted both exams, that can give you a honest assessment of both exams. I will always prefer TEF because I am used to the format. The new format simply removed some sections totally, slightly adjusted and increased the number of questions in other sections. And the new format applies only to the listening and reading tests, the writing and speaking remains them same.

This could also be a reason they decided to revamp the exam, by adjusting its format.

Seen the same too. Good they revamped it to bring it closer to the people.

I ed in a 3 months French course so I know the basics and little more right now. I’ve been trying to soak myself in the language and I think I’m not doing so bad but I need to do better. First, I would like to wish you success in your results. So, I have not yet cleared the almighty band 7,lol. I’m retaking the test because I’m a few points shy of the B2+ in EE

My first attempt was a bit of a joke. My tutor warned me before hand to see it as a way to familiarize myself with the experience(the computer format, the nerves…) because the timeline I gave myself was quite unrealistic. I started self learning in February but switched to tutor based in March and then took the test in April. Results were actually not bad considering my placement test was at A2. I had CE B1, CO B1, EOB1(the nclc4), EE B2. And yes, my EO was a disaster😅. I had pockets of silence where the examiner had to point at her tab to show me there was still time left. Anyway, the test added only two points to my CRS score. A few days later, IRCC yanked off 5 points on my birthday. So I replenished 2 points that wouldn’t have been there if I didn’t my result. 😁

I proceeded to take another in July. This time I added more hours to studying. Ate, slept, soaked in the exercises on Prepmyfuture, la langue française on YouTube and increased my tutor’s classes from 3 hours a week to 5. She also took it upon herself to add some free classes. The results showed the hard work. CE B2+, CO B2+, EO C1, EE B2. I appealed my EE score majorly because I was slowed down due to the dim screen I complained about at the beginning of the test but the frenchies said it wasn’t a ‘major technical anomaly’. So I’m going again. To answer the question of points, this second time I obtained 10 points. I have been updating my EE profile as I go because who knows if IRCC will wake up one morning and drop the nclc to 6? 🥹

As for Q7, I read everywhere that you should get a TEF based tutor but I would also like to note that TEF and DELF are similar so as long as you a get a qualified tutor in exams, the rest is structure and constant practice. I have now resumed studying from 1am to 5am Mondays to Thursdays and watching French with Alexa(to sort of revise things I’ve learnt before), Dylane (she’s very good at explaining) and French movies and shows on Netflix(whenever there’s pockets of spare time during the day). The reality show “the Ultimatum” is a fantastic way to enjoy natural sounding French helpful for EO. I’ve watched it twice now scrutinizing how they effortlessly add their conditionnel, subjonctif and even for the informal words(helpful for section B).
Q9- I was shocked to receive both my tests results one week after even though they tell you 2-4 weeks.

As for my tutor, I met her on preply but she’s resident in Abuja. She’s Cameroonian. I find that this third attempt, she’s more of a guide than a tutor because we’ve basically laid down the ground work and now we’re tweaking styles to shatter this B2+ ceiling. I pray I return with good news. I hope I’ve helped to answer all your questions.
