The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Solomon Arase, has expressed concern over the killing of security personnel, especially police officers, in the South East.

The former Inspector General of Police noted that wives of police officers in the zone are fast becoming widows as a result of attacks on cops by gunmen.

A statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations, said Arase expressed concern over the development when leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

“You should let the killers know that the police is not their enemy. They have not done anything wrong. The Force have lost quite a number of serving officers in the South East.

“We are your friends, stop making police wives widows, they are your sisters,” Arase said.

He said the Commission has resolved the perceived marginalisation of the zone in police representation in the country.

Earlier, the leader of the Ohanaeze delegation, Elder Onwu Arua, noted that the association is worried that people of the South East are not showing interest in the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

He urged the PSC to decide ways of addressing the problem.

The root cause should be addressed in all fairness .

the same southeast was peaceful years back until unarmed protesters exercising the rights were shot in cold blood making their families live in grief and dejection.the same rights recognised all over the world

If rolling out armoured tanks and forcely shutting people out was the solution we will not be where we are today and until the government start becoming responsible these things will continue, lets stop deceiving ourselves.

I think the government should address the cause of this agitations,ipob wasn't like that before.South east was a heaven for corrupt police officers because extortion was legal.Every police officer want to work in the east before now.Anyone that have hand in the insecurities in the east will never go unpunished.

Till now extortion is still happening around the south east, police organization need to do something serious about extortion and corruption in the force.
