NDỊ IGBO, EMOTIONS AND HOW NOT TO PLAY POLITICS

• By Chukwuemerie Uduchukwu

Over the years, ndị Igbo have battled to get involved in national politics but unsurprisingly, they keep shooting themselves in the foot in each electoral season. In a region where five states are governed by four political parties, it is shocking that the residents are yet to realise that they are promoting a political culture that will forever hinder their chances of involvement in national politics. It is more confusing that some residents of the South-East still refuse to align with a national Ruling Party with no valid reason. Majority of the opposition in Alaigbo hate to associate with the All Progressives Congress (APC) without a clear reason and despite the fact that the party had, within a period of eight years, executed laudable projects like the second Niger Bridge construction which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a favourite party of the usual suspects, refused to execute after holding power for sixteen years.

Reliance on emotions and baseless sentiments by ndị Igbo played a crucial role in the embarrassment of the wild goose chase embarked upon by the Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Nigerian Presidential Election, Mr Peter Obi. Despite the fact that it was clear that Obi had zero chance of winning the election, ndị Igbo refused to the moving train but rather, relied on their self-hype on social media to takeover presidential power. Many political thinkers who advised that taking such a myopic decision would further narrow the chance of an Igbo man to occupy presidential seat were bullied, insulted, and even threatened, and the situation was worsened by the ethnic and religious-based campaign embarked upon by the Labour Party Candidate. As projected and expected, their favourite candidate did not only lose the election but came a distant third.

The embarrassing outing of ndị Igbo in the 2023 Presidential Election should serve as a huge lesson to the South-East residents who regularly accuse the Nigerian State of marginalisation and at the same time, refuse to align themselves with a national movement that will fasten the execution of policies that will promote their interests. The South-East needs to do away with all forms of sentiments and give maximum to the centre, especially when some of the sons and daughters of the land are key appointees of the Federal government. Ndị Igbo should understand that it will be difficult to work closely with the centre if they continue to sideline themselves from national political machineries.

If ndị Igbo really want an Igbo man to occupy the Villa as President, they must promote the national ruling party in the grassroots and encourage politicians in the South-East to the party and contest elections on its platform. That will motivate other compatriots in other geopolitical zones to trust an Igbo man with power and will also convince them to believe that ndị Igbo know what they want. The five states of Alaigbo should not be governed by four different political parties when we expect unity of purpose in governance. It should be noted that each political party comes with its own programmes and when different parties are in charge, there will be confusion in regional policy formulation and implementation. It is also a fact that Ebonyi, the best governed Igbo state in the past eight years was able to achieve that milestone because the State’s governor at that time, David Umahi ignored the ethnic and religious champions, and ed the National Ruling Party, and that provided solid for him to push the state to that level despite its limited resources. Moreover, he was a former Senate Deputy Leader and a Minister of Works today because he did the needful and brought his state closer to the centre. You can imagine the level ndị Igbo will be placed in national politics if they stop deceiving themselves and provide necessary to the National Ruling Party.

It can be argued that the South-East provided huge to the PDP which was a national Ruling Party for sixteen years but let us bear in mind that such was not provided on the basis of patriotism but was provided because the South-East adopted the PDP as an Igbo party because it appointed Igbos into juicy political positions and that made them to follow the party as if it was a cult despite the fact that it did nothing tangible for the development of Alaigbo. The execution and completion of the second Niger Bridge, Zik’s Mausoleum and other key projects in Igbo land by the APC after the PDP refused to do same but rather preferred playing politics with them showed that ethnic centred politics will not do ndị Igbo any good.

Moreover, it is a fact that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which is also seen by ndị Igbo as an Igbo party has been the ruling party in Anambra for about sixteen years but unfortunately, there is nothing to show that ndị Anambra really deserve APGA. The only time Anambra witnessed a focused istration in the present fourth republic was during the regime of Chris Ngige who despite his short stay in office, executed tangible projects on the ideology of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) which later through merger, metamorphosed into the present APC. Since Ngige left office, ndị Anambra have faced propaganda based istrations championed by APGA. In fact, the state became the epicentre of propaganda overdrive under the watch of Peter Obi. In his tenure, Obi deployed highly deceitful propaganda machine to mislead the State’s residents and made his successor look like an Ineffectual Buffoon before ndị Anambra and sadly, the Obiano’s istration did little to change that narrative. It is also unfortunate that the present governor of the State, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo who decamped from PDP to APGA has focused more on speaking enticing English and relying on moribund theories instead of being practical with governance, and it is obvious that the state needs a stronger political party that will be bold and focused to execute policies like the Ngige istration did.

Until ndị Igbo decide to do away with emotions and play politics that will be based on facts, their ambitions in national politics will remain a wild goose chase. The time to the National Train is now. , if you are not at the centre table, you will be left out of central discussions that will protect your interests.

There is nothing emotional about not choosing to APC government...

The two APC presidents that have led Nigeria so far have proven to be useless...

Nothing wrong in being in the opposition as a region
Lagos and Tinubu were in the opposition from 1999 to 2015 nobody called them emotional...

Our time will come...

Epistle of rubbish.

So how to play politics is to be attacking strangers in our region to only vote for our son (Peter Obi) or not vote otherwise as the ofe mmanu people did on last election?

If you're talking of emotions, the emotional people I witnessed on last election are Yorubas. They are not only emotional but full of incurity. How would a host be attacking those not from their tribe because they thought that their votes are going for Peter Obi?

Even people from South South were also attacked and called Igbos because of their emotions.

The same emotions and insecurity made them disowned their son (Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour) , calling him Omo Ibo, a Yoruba man o undecided grin

I didn't bother to read the junk, every nitwit out there wants to advise Igbos how to play politics in Nigeria

Is Nigeria all about fighting each other for political power? Is that really what the Nigerian union is all about? The fight for political supremacy?

Despite Fulani herdsmen killing people in all 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria, the same Nigerians still elected and re-elected a Fulani man called Buhari as President

So tell me how Fulani played national politics before you come to give useless advice to Igbos

When we talk of Alliance we speak about a group or region speaking in one voice to achieve a common goal in the center.

All the politicians you mentioned were vilified or still vilified by an average south easterners because they are in a party the region detest.

If APC had given any of them ticket, you all will still not vote for them.

Today obi is the most popular politician in south east, he should go and court the north and reach an alliance with them through a very popular politician.

Not going to court politician like Datti that can't win his local government election

You said we only vote PDP that power is not given that we should contest we did and was rigged out now you said build alliance

The one we built in PDP what was the results?

We won't have voted them if they were given ticket... But people won election under APC in South East

Truth you guys would never vote an igbo man for president but you are too much of a coward to it it

You are just looking for excuse to justify your igbophobia

There is absolutely nothing you would say igbos should do that we haven't done more any any tribe in Nigeria

Point of correction. You were not rigged out. You lost to a man and region that successfully built bridges and alliance between his region and the North. And the north successfully reciprocate the gesture he and his region gave them two 8-years ago.

You built an alliance in PDP but did you ask your self how strong your alliance is?

You spent all the last 8-years insulting the North. Calling them terrorists and illiterates. You were insulting Yorubas and calling them Fulani slaves and the rest.

Only south east was the region calling for the break up of the country there by breaking all the trust of the other parts of the country.

The group who are responsible for that unceremonious call still get the backing of a large part of the east that till this minute they still pressuring the government to release the man responsible for that call who is also responsible for violence in the region.

And you want key stakeholders in PDP to give you their ticket.

God knows that if it were only a South easterner that contested the election against Tinubu, Tinubu will defeat that south easterner with a minimum of 6million votes because virtually all the votes Atiku got in south west and North will definitely go to Tinubu because of the ALLIANCE they have and importantly because of the conduct of south easterners over the last 4-years.

Painfully I am Igbo and I will speak the truth to you.

If we must get the top position, we must build the alliance that will take us there. Not all these unnecessary Nzogbu Nzogbu politics like Gov soludo alluded.

Chinedu Gbadebo was not voted into office because of his previously unguarded utterances on Social Media.

Furthermore, the naive little pup also uttered words that could easily be interpreted to be "Anti Yoruba" even leading up to the elections.

He had contested elections previously in a majority Igbo area in Lagos State under the name Chinedu. This time around he decided his nane was Gbadebo because he was contesting for Gubernatorial elections, blatant opportunism.

Lastly his spoken Yoruba is disgraceful for someone who is a Yoruba son and wants to be governor of a Yoruba state. Contrast that with Adeleke in Osun whose múm is also Igbo and who apparently speaks Igbo fluently yet still won gubernatorial elections abd wasn't disowned.

In time Chinedu Gbadebo would look back at an opportunity missed when he considers how he couldn't take advantage of the winning platform in Lagos State that Peter Obi set for him purely due to his own idiocy.

Perhaps you need to pick up your dictionary and check out the meaning of that word 'emotion'.

What happened in lagos in the last election was unfortunate but it was called for
That was not the first time election has taken place in lagos. In the previous election, igbos were allowed to vote the candidate of their choice without harassment or intimidation.
The last election took a different dimension because you people called for it.
You don't stay in someone's land and call it a no man's land and still bost that you will that you will defeat them in their land and expect them to fold their hands and watch.
You and I know that nobody can try such in the east.
As for Chinedu aka Gbadebo, we dash una for free grin
Someone who doesn't think yoruba cannot govern yoruba. It is as simple as A B C
