Immigration is perfectly normal in life and always been part of humanity from the beginning of time. Stories abound in historical and spiritual publications and letters. In the past people do migrate as a large group. In modern world's context, immigration is often personal/family.

Just evaluate your options and make your "personal" go or no-go decision. Immigration will not change the reality of life that we will always have the financially poor, the mid-level and the rich in most societies. That won't change for your society as a whole whether you stay put where you are or you move somewhere else.

What may change is your personal fortune.

Ignorance full Nairaland. Exaggerated nonsense
There is Venezuela. 4 million of them (more than 10%) don japa from their own country because of the severe hardship there. Then there is Congo.

I was paying 600 euros 2002 when i was in Madrid in my appartment
that same amount is what my brother is still paying till now because i left the appartment for him, infact during covid 19 era the landlord reduced the rent to 400 euros for him, that is how normal countries should be, from 2004 shipping of cars to Nigeria was 1000 euros till now is still the same in Spain, in some countries they slashed the price down self, like and Belgium etc

Those who have traveled out of Nigeria to countries that have a better economy than Nigeria How does it feel, and how did it impact your life?
High taxes, but there is peace of mind. There is freedom to explore different things without thinking of survival all the time

I have a question I want to ask.

When I was born in Nigeria, I met the economy at a certain stage, and what I observed is that when the economy rises, it never drops. I've heard stories from the past about how the economy was. Going back to the 1960s and 1970s, the standard of living was very low, to the extent that a double salary was paid during the Gowon regime.

Those who have traveled out of Nigeria to countries that have a better economy than Nigeria How does it feel, and how did it impact your life?

Feels great, to know foods and drinks are relatively cheap....

Tho some fancy dish ain't cheap if you compare them to Nigeria exchang rates..

🍕 $8 in naira 8k... you can get pizza for 4k naija
Shawarma $16 in naira 16k... you can get Shawarma for 800naira in naija

It's well ....

I didn't know the period that op was talking about but from what I heard from my parents and lecturers, Nigeria was once a great nation.

Bad leaders, insecurity and poor economy are the major problems.

I've $40 dollars now I don't want to spend it cheaply because it's almost ₦40,000 to tell you how poor is our economy. Who knows maybe be in few weeks to come $40 might be #80,000 I didn't pray for such though
Some things are inevitable

Salary is paid weekly or at most biweekly, so it’s very difficult for a prudent person to be broke . As long as you have a job. Just any job.

I have never like commenting on social space like this for so many reasons,

I have only spent few months outside Nigeria since over 35years ,I laughed and sad at the same time when I see comments comparing a third world country like Nigeria to 1st world countries all just to discourage the gullible one from travelling out of Nigeria.

Nigeria get worst on daily basis.

You have never stepped out of Nigeria. That 40 dollars will only barb your hair abroad. At most, two meals in a cheap restaurant where they will give you fries and one small chicken.
No one is saying Nigeria is perfect, comparing dollar to naira at face value is nonsense

It feels good. You live in an economy wherein you can actually live a decent life without knowing anyone. You can get jobs if you have the right papers (this part is a little challenging however, if you do things right, you will get there although it might take a while and a lot of sacrifice).

The atmosphere is clean, the roads are good, the opportunities are endless. You need know how to choose a place that fits your lifestyle, family, and income. For example, if you are not used to the fast pace of life, live in the not too big cities.

Depends on what you went there for. But I can tell you no place like home (Nigeria) at the end of the day.

These advanced countries can turn you into a slave working the rest of your life to pay taxes and service debt without ever experiencing true wealth.

In few short years since I’ve been back to Nigeria I have experienced progress at a rate that would have been almost impossible over there. You see the advantage Nigeria has over those counties is that it’s easier to cut corners here. As long as you have the right connects 😉

Fortunately, you don't need to amassed wealth to enjoy good things life can offer, that is the basic philosophy of developed countries we all are running to now. All you need is working system that will take care of you at old age.

Until Africans are able to solve their physiological needs, we will continue to lag behind on the scale of development. Foods and shelter should be the last worry of an average human being in a functioning society.

It feels good, you get to enjoy certain things you never enjoyed in Nigeria. I drove a 2005 car in Nigeria, but drive a 2022 own now ( e sweet die) . I can go on trips and vacations without blinking but in Nigeria you go carry calculator tire and still not go.I came to Canada when Naira to Canada dollars was 270 but Today its is 752. 🤣

The only problem I have with Nigeria is that things are not getting better and unfortunately, we keep allowing the elites play us the way they want to.

I started work in 2007 with a salary of a little over N120k which was approximately $950USD as of then. Today, many of those I started with earn between N700k and N1.2m on the average which is approximately $780USD and $1350USD respectively 16 years after. What that means is that some have lost earning power over 16 years while others have only gained about 50% in earnings over 16years. Worst is that the price of things have way skyrocketed between this period.

Abroad isn't all rosy nonetheless, it is pretty decent in of rising cost and income too is revisited from time to time to ensure people are able to meet minimum living standards.

I learned that Nigeria was a good place to live when the British people governed the country and soon after the country became independent. But the honeymoon did not last long after independence in 1960.

Nigeria was using the British pounds as our currency and even when we changed our currency to naira, it was equal to our British pound and far more valuable than the dollar. We had a lot of agricultural products to export even before the advent of crude oil. There was reasonable level of security, peace and harmony amongst the people.

However, after we gained independence and started having our own political leaders, corruption, insecurity and destabilisation started growing gradually, leading to militarily coups, and later political coups, greater corruption, deterioration of the economy, serious insecurity, militancy and all forms of evil as evidenced in the country today.

This is not true for countries across Europe, I guess madrid is a good place to live but a decent apartment that was $500 in UK or Canada in 2002 is now $1400 in 2023. Infact Canada has housing crisis at the moment. You can read about it using Google, it is not an hidden news at all.

Well High taxes is not a problem at all because the income is high too. And ofcourse the high taxes benefits the payer of the tax....so it is not even an issue at all.

This is a partially false, most of the people living paycheck to paycheck are always in disarray when they lose their jobs. The citizens are paid monthly when unemployed but sometimes that money may not be enough, so they have to work to live above their cost of living. A lot of Europeans get loans for vacation, then travel. They start working to repay those loans in years or months, that is difficult as well.

Regarding pensions, It works perfectly abroad & that one I can speak for.

You actually need enough liquid cash, investments to live a safe & comfortable life. Don't let anyone deceive you with this European lifestyle. For example, most African parents who relocated don't take student loans, they pay their kids tuition fully so as to enable their kids build wealth in the future.

European system is good, but it is not perfect.

Well when colonialism ended the west changed its name to democracy where they control countries with puppet governments who are made to look as if its citizens elected them. If you were truly free your so called elected leaders wont be seeking validation from their colonial masters. if you were truly free your govt wont be taking directives from colonial institutions such as IMF and WB if you were free you wont just be consumer or supplier of raw materials but be allowed to produce your own goods to compete in the global market, if you were free you wont depend on the west for weapons to defend yourselves against bandits, if you were free your currency wont be pegged at the dollar or any other foreign currency, if you were free your foreign reserves wont be domiciled in overseas and in another countrys currency which can be frozen. Truth is you are still colonised they just modified it and changed the name slave traders are now replaced by democaratically elected governments hand pucked by yoyr colonial masters.
