As a landlord, these are tough times for me.

My tenants are pushing for a rent reduction in October, with some even suggesting late payments.

I urged them to submit the full rent upfront before October to avoid story that touches the heart, but they decline.

If they have been your old tenant and they never for once owe you before I think maybe you should help them out. The country is hard now, everybody is facing the storm. I am not saying you should reduce the rent o but if they do not have the full rent for a year you can collect 6 months with the agreement that they will balance up before the end of the 6 months

That's your investment and you have the final say over it. Make sure you show no sign of desperation for money. Then declare unto them that any of them who isn't cool with paying up should vacate your property. And another thing, stop giving room for too much familiarity with them. And make sure there's a tenancy agreement/receipt stating the amount paid, the duration and the type of house, signed by both parties.

They perceive you as been too gentle and hence weak. They are simply taking advantage of your kind nature

Please sir, give them more time. It is not easy at all.

This is why it's always good to have an agent .. you don't have to face your tenants yourself... Your agent can do that on your behalf, inorder not to have a familiarity with them...

In as much as I hate abusing people. Pls,take it easy as landlords have their rights too.

If they are old tenants u fit reason am collect part now and the rest later( no reduction) because nigeria go pity u.

Don't be harsh on your tenant but if you want to respect the , get the service of the lawyer and stop approaching them directly. But since the system is harsh, have mercy on them

Oga landlord, don’t EVER agree to part payment without involving a lawyer. Everything MUST be documented & signed by all parties. NO VERBAL AGREEMENTS. Some people are something else. Even if the person was there when you started the building as long as (s)he is a tenant treat the person as one. I don talk my own.

Except the location of your apartment isn't desired by prospective "leasees", simply evict them all and get new tenants.

Life's too stressful for all these unnecessary complications.
