In a highly political world were people are willing to take credit for circumstantial gains. Let data for demand vs supply be provided side by side and let's hear what Soludo could have done differently. Was it not Soludo who capitalized a dozen banks with $6 billion again? Where will emefiele or the new guy get such amount from if they decide to do same today?

I think a lot of people so easily forget that the first job of the CBN is to regulate the banks. The position is made for a banker. Directing monetary policy is secondary, and in fact, it is not even complex. Banks are at the heart of the economy so the idea that a leading banker would not have a solid grasp of economics is baffling.

Not necessarily. But you have a point. This question has not been settled even in advanced industrial economies. There was some controversy over the current US central bank governor because he has no degree qualifications in economics.

True about the understanding part. But having the degree isn't necessarily a requirement, although most developed economies lean towards someone with a doctorate in economics. But work experience sometimes tips the scale.
