You can get insurance with an international drivers license. Check out marshmallow…they tend to offer good rates to immigrants just coming in with a driving history.

https://www.marshmallow.com/

Thanks for your response. I don't know what I did wrong, Marshmallow said they can't offer me insurance after I finished filling the online forms... They directed me to confused.com

Another one I tried brought £2600 annual, £233 monthly and £490 deposit!

This is shocking

Good morning everyone.
Please I need urgent answers to these question.
My boyfriend who has a visitor visa to Uk was denied boarding by Royal air maroc official because his return ticket is from Turkish airline.
As per policies, I want to be believe all airlines are independent and royal air has no business with his return ticket.
I am so pained, frustrated and confused.
What can I do?

Ask your boyfriend to tell you the real reason(s) he was denied boarding.
Airlines will only want to see if he has a valid visa/entry clearance for his final destination. E no concern Air Maroc which airline him wan use for him return trip.

Well, at least from my personal experience.

I am not talking based on hearsay please. I booked all these tickets myself and was even on call with the agent. They were so rude and I’m still yet to get over the shock. In all of my existence, I have never heard where an airline would deny someone boarding because he has a valid return ticket from a different airline.
I will drag them everywhere and I won’t keep quiet until they pay for every damage they caused.

Which policy was quoted....... I wonder why you bought tickets, from 2 airlines for the same trip......

Were this ticket bought together, on the same transaction or seperate transactions.........

If this flight was from a flight originating from the UK, you could seek advice from an ADR, but with this Morocco flight, you need to find out if they got any dispute resolution in Morocco.......

That’s a terrible idea.

The moment you become a fully licensed driver your previous insurance becomes invalid which means first it’s a crime to continue driving, and if you have any accident your insurance company will not cover.

100 pounds is not worth that risk.

Sometimes the mind boggles at people's reasoning on here!

How is it a terrible idea? How does having an additional UK licence invalidate his original Nigerian/international licence? Isn't that what he has been using all this while and was the original basis for his existing insurance policy? Why should a new driving qualification remove his intrinsic status as an international driving of X years from Nigeria?

The main reason I informed my insurance company was because I expected a financial benefit, not a surcharge because I should have a reduced risk level compared to before I got the UK licence, but alas it didn't happen.

If you have GBP 100 to waste, no problem. Some of others have better things to do with the money even if it's in excess rather than dashing the government!

If he has an accident/claim, all he has to do is present his old Nigerian licence and be mute about the new UK licence and his claims would still be valid / processed. C'est fini! I don't understand how that can constitute insurance fraud....never.

Sorry o. However, the airline was acting out of an excess of caution, probably cant blame them.

If an airline brings a enger on a non-resident travel document (e.g and most usually, a visitor's visa) and that person is denied entry, then na for them head to carry the person back to where them carry am from come. say a visitor's visa no dey guarantee person entry into the country, a visitor's visa is just permission to come to the UK Border and knock on the door asking them to let you in. UKBA people fit turn person back if they decide say dem no go gree you enter.

In that case, Royal Air Maroc is liable for carrying him back to Naija, or else they could face a heavy fine. That's why they wan dey sure say the person get return ticket. Given that the return ticket was with another airline, they probably havent the capacity to reach out to start ing the validity of that ticket, after all it could be fake and it is actually quite unusual for a visitor's visa holder to buy two separate one-way tickets.

No vex, but it is what it is, and Nigeria is sadly not known for being a fraud-free nation, so the people at the check in desk can argue they were probably reasonably justified in refusing boarding if the matter goes up. I dont think you can get much from Royal Air Maroc though.

Reminds me of "Amsterdam" in series "The Wire"

It means they have failed in their war against drug sales and use.

These countries need to just go the Singapore, China, Vietnam and Saudi way and just bring back the death penalty for drug pushers and murderers

Worked there as a mail sorter in my early days in this country (I presume that's the job you'll be applying for). Not much physical effort required, the mailbags you go need to lift from time to time no the 25 litre jerrycans of fuel for the home generator wey we dey lift enter boot for petrol station on a regular as part of the Nigerian experience. No fear.

I'd rather trek through the desert than use Air Maroc, Turkish and the likes (except i want to get a transit visa in Morocco or Turkey)

If it's not Qatar, Emirates or BA, I'll rather stay where I am. It's always missing luggage, transit visa palava, non-refund of money and plenty super story from those folks

I wouldn’t say that, like I said I wasn’t trained or given any form of idea about how to sort letters or parcels. Was there watching others and trying to learn while making loads of mistakes.

Apply if you can and you will be given a training and orientation

Your first year quote is generally more expensive. Did Marshmallow give you a reason? It’s hard to guide you further without you sharing personal info, but perhaps try filling out the form again. You might also be able to them directly on their website to discuss it. You may also want to check out compare the market for more insurance quotes.

This is a hack, a legal one but cannot be used urgently because you'll need time. Others thinking of buying a car can try it as well, that is what I did and I'm currently paying like half of what I would ordinarily be paying for insurance.

If you're ready to your driving test and ready to buy a car, get a car and get a privisional driving licence.
Get an insurance on the provisional licence, insurance on provisional license is usually very cheap because they know you can't drive with it.

Then take your driving test and . Update your insurance to the full license, the insurance price will remain the same or go up just a little.

You're offering a bad advice and if anyone gets into an accident or is stopped by Police on that license, they will have issues to deal with. Your international licence and any insurance you have on it becomes invalid once you're granted a UK license. Try to the legality of your advice please, so you don't inadvertently put people in trouble.

Them no dey argue with people like this. About 5 people on this platform have advised the original poster (OP) to update his driving license and I want to believe that the OP is smart enough not to let a few hundred quid affect him in the event of an accident or a claim.

Hello,

I need your advice as an international student. A few weeks ago, I applied for a provisional license, and as part of the verification process, I was asked to send my BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) card along with the application. I have received my provisional driver's license, but I still haven't received my BRP card. Despite my efforts to both Royal Mail and DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency), I haven't received any helpful information.

Could you please advise me on how to resolve this issue? What is the process for applying for a replacement BRP card or what steps do I need to take?

Did you send a self-addressed, signed for/special delivery for the return of your BRP?

Don’t worry too much. Your BRP may not have been lost. Just be patient, small.

Your BRP will come, it might still be in the post. They don't send both together, though I'd expect the BRP would arrive first. I wouldn't be too stressed yet, hopefully you have a digital copy. You should be able to use a share code to prove your right to live/right to work.

1. Your UK license is not an additional license. Once you acquire that, it supercedes all other permission to drive.

Same way you can’t refuse to apply for a full license until later and keep driving on the provisional one because it allows you to drive still.

2. No. 1 aside, If you read your policy document you’ll see that there’s a requirement to disclose any material changes to your status as the policy holder and also to the car. Your license status is a key part of that, and failing to disclose will be a basis on which they can refuse cover.

Happy to agree to disagree sha. To each his own.
