Abuja to Lagos, 4 hours? Lol
Exaggeration
it's possible.
Abuja to Lagos is about 460km. Driving on a good super highway as proposed with an average speed of 100km/hr, would be able to complete the distance in 4 to 5 hrs.

A straight path from Abuja to Lagos geographically is 512km. With the curves, it can be more than that. No amount of engineering in the world will reduce that to 460km unless you carry Lagos to around Ogbomosho.
Umahi is an Engineer, no doubt but he is also a politician and that tells a lot.
Either the journalist are misquoting him or he playing politics
They are not misquoting him, he spoke about the road last week, he said the road is being constructed by a private firm, upon completion, it will be tolled to recoup the money invested in the project, he says the road will be 460km in length, if you're an engineer or you're into road construction, you'd know that before a project is awarded or embarked upon, the length of the road is usually calculated.

Why not wait for the project to be completed? Are you insinuating that the private company will embark on a project without taking the length of the road into consideration?

460km, it's a new road entirely. The old road is 700km in length.

Please do you have an idea of the route?

They should use the western frontier to build it. That is the Badagry to Sokoto frontier. That way u avoid all the big cities on the way.

I am guessing that will benefit far fewer people.

It is in the big cities that the largest s of roads are.

Also instead of one single road ing through bushes, an expanded road through Ibadan axis connecting through one or 2 other big cities in Oyo State, then through Ilorin and into Abuja will be better.

The existing road through Ibadan to Ilesha to Akure, Akungba, Ibillo, Okene, Lokoja then Abuja should be redeveloped and improved.

Benin to Lokoja should also be redeveloped and improved.

I am not thar familiar with the East. But 2 or 3 roads from that axis and Port Harcourt in the South South to Abuja should be redeveloped.

Mr Hon. Minister, we don't need a new, single road from Lagos to Abuja.

Better to redevelop existing roads and bridges linking the South to the North.

There is more to Nigeria than just Lagos.

It seems this Minister likes new shining things that are too costly.

The existing roads are in poor shape. Instead of focusing on redeeming them, he wants to bring businessmen to build a new one that they will start charging s for.

This is not possible.
Lagos to Abuja is is over 700km
To achieve this in 4 hours means to travel on average, 180km/hr non-stop.
Does the law permits driving on this speed? NO.
So it's safe to be modest with 6 to 7 hours
700km if you through the current route but they are proposing another route that will cut all the town in between.

Even the US with super highways will never say such a long distance journey will take 4 hours.
I think this istration is taking exaggeration and propaganda too far.

Continue to doubt, for a doubting minds can't get anything, even from God!
-For example,we were in Oyo State,- Ibadan this week and it took us just 1- hour and few Minutes,as the Lagos- Ibadan Express- Road is in an excellent Shape! We too were surprised!
•Hon Umahi-please,just continue, and don't allow -'Neh Have It ' into your Ministry!
•With God and men of like-minded, you will get there!
God bless Umahi
God bless Nigeria!

i excepted contruction of train track while re-structuring the existing road that lead to Abuja. This would have been ideal in my opinion.

Hmmmm, how possible is this
Road safety recommends 120km per hr on highway private cars which is the highest, if all vehicles are traveling at that speed, it means one will cover 480km in 4hrs. So what's the distance between Lagos and Abuja??
752 km.
