Do you know if UK SBS have come down here before?
Yes early 2020 through 2021 if you live around Mando, kawo or if you are lucky inside KASUWA (Township of Kaduna) you will see them in Landcruisers or other vehicles, with their distinctive British army desert camo
I am sure i saw a WHITE ARMY SOLDIER in 2021 along Yakubu Gawon way Kaduna, just outside the Post office, office lighting a cigarette with the crossed arrow insigni on his army when i took my cousin sister to open an in Zenith Bank but they where not fast so i took her to UBA just opposite the Post office

Crucial topic you've raised here mate !

The height of insecurity in some West African country is becoming more alarming.
Years back it was Nigeria and its neighbour's battling BHTs, now the terrorists group has been degraded to an extent.

Mali is the new theatre for a deadly terrorist sect, judging by the landlocked and shear size of this desert/mountainous country: its a perfect breathing ground for terrorist.

In all honesty I doubt if the country has the economic will and military strength to defeat terrorist occupations on their land ? The frequent attacks on military formations and innocent life's reminds me of the dark days way back in Nigeria.

Just today some reports from Mali Sahel; shows reckage of a Malian Air Force's Sukhoi Su-25 'Frogfoot' (TZ-25C) subsonic jet was shot down in Gao by Azadaw (CMA) militias.

Noteably, unconfirmed photo of a MANPADS owned/used by the militias was also released; which shows a rare USA-made FIM-43 'Redeye' MANPADS.

Like I said the size of the country, mountainous terrain and unchecked cross border activities are source of concern for me, terrorist group can easily smuggle in weapons and foreign fighters.

Let's take Algeria and Egypt has good examples of countries doing everything to check border activities to get rid of weapons smuggling and inflow of foreign fighters, I can few years back of posting Algeria CION across their borders, how they eliminated terrorist fighters in their hidden sleeper sells, discovering buried cached weapons etc the commitment was great during the advent of ISIS. These country rose up to the challenges, am not sure we West African countries are ready for this tide that is coming.

Reports from Mali indicate that a second Malian airforce aircraft has been shot down in the Almustarat sector. For several days now, the Malian army has been fighting against the CMA Tuaregs
Images of what of JNIM claims to be reckage of two rotary aircraft destroyed in two separate events on Sept 8th & 9th.

DEFENCE MINISTER PRAISES NAF EFFORTS IN ONGOING T OPERATIONS AS AWC GRADUATES 15 PARTICIPANTS
The Honourable Minister of Defence, Dr Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, MON, has praised the formidability of air power projected by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as a decisive and indispensable aspect of the physical component of combat power critical to the preservation of Nigeria’s territorial integrity. Dr Badaru also noted that over the years, the NAF has continued to attract tremendous goodwill and credibility to the nation through the provision of airlift and humanitarian for the United Nations, African Union and friendly African countries. The Minister stated this earlier today, 19 September 2023, as the Special Guest of Honour at the graduation ceremony of Air War College (AWC) Course 9/2023 held in Makurdi, Benue State. Represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the Minister further noted that NAF’s on operational art, critical thinking and other pragmatic frameworks for military decision-making processes in the curriculum of the AWC would, no doubt, enhance the culture of proactiveness in operational planning and management in the NAF. This, he said, is indispensable to ensuring national security which is pivotal to the socio-economic development of the nation. He then went on to praise the efforts of NAF personnel whom, he said, have continued to contribute immensely to the successes of ongoing t operations. According to him, “I must also place on record that the NAF has been playing significant and crucial roles in the ongoing counterinsurgency and counter-terrorism operations where its officers and airmen have performed gallantly.”
Also speaking at the Ceremony, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father (Dr) Hyacinth Alia, commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for their efforts towards peace restoration in Nigeria. He also expressed his appreciation to the NAF for their efforts at sustaining and maintaining peace and security in Benue State. According to Governor Alia,"The presence of the NAF in Makurdi gives the people of Benue State a sense of security and an assurance of their safety."
In his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, stated that the graduation of another set of participants of the Air War College was a major stride in human capacity development in the Service, which is critical to the fulfilment of NAF’s constitutional mandate. Air Marshal Abubakar also noted that the NAF would be inducting additional platforms before the end of the year to boost training, air power employment and projection. These platforms, according to him, include 2 x Agusta 109 Trekker Multi-role helicopters, 2 x Beechcraft King Air 360, 3 x Diamond DA-62 surveillance aircraft and 6 x T-129 ATAK helicopters. Other pending acquisitions include 2 x CASA 295 medium airlift/surveillance aircraft, 12 x AH-1Z attack helicopters and 24 x M-346 attack aircraft. These acquisitions, according to the CAS, demonstrate Government’s deep commitment to equipping the NAF for the safe conduct of training and agile airpower employment to meet the nation’s security challenges. He then praised the unwavering of the Federal Government under the amiable leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in equipment procurement and training, which has enabled the NAF to maintain consistency in conducting operations to curtail contemporary threats.
The CAS also echoed the importance institutions like the AWC play in enhancing tness and synergy in ongoing operations. According to him, “Institutions like the AWC and other Services War Colleges must continue to produce officers whose understanding and beliefs in t operations would guide the AFN towards efficient use of available military resources.” He then stated that the successes so far recorded in ongoing t operations signified the benefits and necessity of t force employment in contemporary military operations. To optimize combat strength of t forces in operations, he added, the Defence and Services headquarters must continue working to eradicate all impediments to tness by the armed forces. Speaking further, the CAS noted that the AWC has, since inception, been consistent in fulfilling its mandate of developing the capacity of middle cadre officers in the AFN in leadership and effective employment of air power. He also stated that the emphasis placed by the College on critical thinking and its application to operational planning as well as net assessment and future studies have greatly enhanced the quality of the course content, while attracting wider patronage from other services and friendly nations.
Earlier, the Commandant of the College, Air Vice Marshal Abayomi Kehinde, informed guests that the College Course curriculum as well as those of the Army and Naval War Colleges were harmonized by the Defence Headquarters some years back to promote tness. Since the harmonization of the curriculums, he continued, participants from the 3 war colleges annually converge in Abuja to conduct a t operational planning exercise nicknamed EXERCISE SKYLOCK, aimed at promoting inter-service synergy and collaboration as well as interoperability at the operational level within the AFN. He then expressed optimism that the knowledge gained by the participants from their exposure to t operations planning and execution would no doubt broaden their knowledge as well as strengthen their understanding of unified and multi-agency approaches to the conduct of warfare as well as crisis management and resolution.
Amongst the 15 graduands is a Cameroonian officer, 2 Nigerian Army Officers and 2 Naval Officers, which is a clear testament that the College is indeed a tri-Service institution as well as a multi-national institution.

Speaking to CNN, the anonymous source said a string of drone attacks against the Rapid Forces (RSF) earlier this month were carried out by a 'non-Sudanese' military, claiming 'Ukrainian special services were likely responsible'.

The attacks began on September 8, two days after Wagner Group sent gun-laden trucks to an RSF garrison in al-Zurug, southwest Sudan. The RSF has been embroiled in a power struggle with Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since April 15, 2023.

At least six strikes targeted trucks on Shambat Bridge and another eight hit vehicles, buildings and personnel near RSF positions in Omdurman and Ombada. Analysis of drone footage by CNN revealed Ukrainian text seen on the drone controller.

Whistleblowers in Chad told CNN that the Wagner convoy moved through Chad, where Wagner Group does not currently have an established presence, potentially signalling an expansion of Russia and Wagner's influence on the continent.

Ukrainian operations in Africa would also mark a significant development in the ongoing conflict in eastern Europe.

Some critics have been skeptical of the claims made by the Ukrainian source.

A Sudanese military official told CNN they were not aware of Ukrainian operations in Sudan.
Wagner Group has maintained a presence in Sudan since 2017, and has arms spread out across the continent.

In April, founder Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed 'not a single Wagner PMC [private military company] fighter has been present in Sudan' for over two years.

But evidence has mounted of Wagner arming the RSF with missiles to fuel its war against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

Footage from July 2022 also appeared to show mercenaries training Sudanese forces in parachute-landing exercises.

The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime [GI-TOC] assessed in April that Wagner sought both influence and material gain in Sudan.

'The main objective of the Russians in Sudan is not to protect the Khartoum political power, but essentially to benefit immensely from the country's mineral resources.'

Russia has likewise agreed trade deals in the past to mine gold in Sudan.

At least 5,000 people have been killed and over 12,000 wounded in the ongoing war in Sudan, according to Volker Perthes, the U.N. envoy in the country, who announced his resignation last week.

The actual casualty toll, he said, is likely much higher.

More than 2.5 million people have fled their homes, including over 1 million who crossed into Sudan's neighboring countries, according to the U.N.'s migration agency.

More than 1,200 children under the age of five have also died as a result of the conflict, which has raged for the last five months with few ceasefires.

The U.N.'s refugee agency warned on Tuesday that a deadly combination of measles and malnutrition were taking their toll on Sudan's civilian population.

The UNHCR said the deaths, between May 15 and September 14, were documented by its teams in the While Nile province, where thousands of Sudanese have sheltered as fighting has raged for six months between rival generals, in the capital of Khartoum and elsewhere.

'Dozens of children are dying every day - a result of this devastating conflict and a lack of global attention,' said the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.

Sudan has been governed by a council of generals led by current de facto president Abdel Fattah al-Burhan since a military junta tasked with transitioning the country to democracy was overthrown in a 2021 military coup.

al-Burhan's deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as Hemeti, is commander of the 100,000-strong RSF.

Tensions have since grown as the SAF and RSF have competed for legitimacy amid wider discussions about the future of the country.

In December 2022, civilian groups that had been sidelined by the 2021 coup signed an initial deal with the military to start a new two-year political transition and appoint a new civilian government.

On 5 April 2023, the final g for the deal was delayed a second time, amid disputes over whether the army would be placed under civilian oversight in a new istration, and how the RSF would be integrated into the armed forces.

Civilian groups also seek justice for alleged war crimes by the military and its allies.

In this volatile environment, the relationship between Burhan and Hemeti became strained, leading ultimately to conflict as RSF personnel were tactically redeployed into roles around Sudan.

Both sides initially accused each other of starting the conflict, and have been loathe to negotiate. Both have called for the other side to surrender.

The region remains geopolitically important and western allies fear the possible establishment of a Russian base on the east coast on the Red Sea, to which some military leaders have been receptive.

Sudan has been trapped in conflict on-and-off since declaring independence in 1955, recognised on 1 January 1956.
