The Federal Government through the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has asked Google to remove 18 more digital loan apps from the Google Play store.

The commission stated that these apps are operating on the Google Play store without regulatory approval or in violation of the Limited Interim Regulatory/Registration Framework and Guidelines for Digital Lending, 2022 (Guidelines).

It noted that only digital money lenders that have regulatory scrutiny and compliance evidenced by written approval from it are allowed on Playstore.

Listing the deleted apps on Wednesday, the FCC said, “Accordingly, the Commission has entered a further order requiring Google to immediately remove, withdraw, or drawdown the following

“Getloan, Joy Cash-Loan Up to 1,000,000, Camelloan, Cashlawn, Nairaloan, Eaglecash, Moneytreefinance Made Easy, Luckyloan Personal Loan, Cashme, Easynaira, Swiftcas, Crediting, Swiftkash, Hen Credit loan, Nut loan, Cash door, Cashpal, and Nairaeasy gist loan.”

The commission further stated that compliance with its guidelines is mandatory for all digital money lenders, and failure to comply is a violation of the law.

It added that infractions or infringements may lead to permanent delisting and prohibition, as well as law enforcement action, including prosecution.

Recently, the FCC has been clamping down on loan apps operating illegally or/and harassing Nigerians. On July 20, 2023, it delisted some ed digital money lenders for breaking its rules.

This apps are supposed to be making cool money in this our current economic but their Shylock attitude is the problem. You give 12k loan and want to collect 18k back in 2 weeks and you start adding default interest if the person fails. This is cruel. Subscribers to the loan only pay back with the hope of attaining a higher level when they will be able to get a higher offer..... Then they default.

Minimising the interest will help them to minimise defaults, they should also be straightforward in the term of the loan unlike the one posted month ago by a nairaland member about how he was lured to take a loan with hidden neckbreaking condition.

Palmcredit sent 126k loan to my wrongly. To pay 190k
I quickly alerted them for immediate reversal of the money, they ignored me. They refused to respond to my chats and messages.

I kept quiet. Time for repayment came, they started troubling me with calls. I said I can never pay for a loan I never requested for. They resorted to threat and others, I just ignored and blocked them.

Before you engage any loan app or grant them permission to ur phone, make sure your main sim cards and s, your pictures and other important data linked to u are not on the phone u want to use to engage them.

Get a random sim card, load it with fake s and give it names to make it appear real. Names like boss, dad, uncle, bro so so so... Etc they will think they have hammered or have something they can use to defame u.
Cos immediately u grant them permission to ur phone, they have access to ur s and they can or copy it.

If you default and they threatened to defame you, they will only end up calling the wrong or fake numbers with them. At the end, they will calm down and be the one begging u pay them.

Sincerely, those apps are not actually helping Nigeria at the long run. Why 12k loan will pay 18k in 2 weeks and peopele won't default? Those who pay back are doing it so that they can be eligible for higher loan that will eventually lead to default
