Foreign medical student don't go through tough exams,why give them Nigeria exam that is hard? Why don't MDCN give them questions like 1+a=1a so that all of them will . Especially now that our best Doctors have japa. We can manage the foreign trained Doctor that are back to the country

It's because you don't understand how exams work. In Nigeria Universities, people hardly score up to 90 unlike foreign universities (US for example).

In Nigeria, academics is filled with hard jargons that are often outdated and aren't useful.

They didn't send them there. Those foreign docs are actually Nigerians who trained abroad, and decided to work back home

It doesn't mean the IMGs (International Medical Graduates) are dullards. It simply means we use a different yardstick here. Those IMGs satisfied their foreign trainers who based their assessments on pathologies endemic in their environment, and some management regimen obtained in their climes.
MDCN conduct their exams based on tropical diseases with Nigeria as a case point. Example is Cystic Fibrosis. Its almost impossible to see a Nigerian with this. But its common in the UK etc. So UK trained docs would be quite comfortable managing it. Thus their exams would consist more of such cases. Now look at Sickle Cell Disease. This is endemic in Nigeria and kinda rare in Caucasians. We know how to manage it and thus our exams (and this MDCN assessment) would feature it hugely. A IMG would not know much about it.

Thank you. This is the simple fact and a well sounded summary above. Unfortunately this explanation isn't for the common demographics on nairaland, most of who have chosen to be permanently bitter, obtuse and deliberately hateful to doctors as usual.

During my 500L, my teaching hospital hosted them, and I understood how/why these FMGs struggled due to being in an unfamiliar medical terrain, and coupled with the Nigerian factor which we all know, most failed. Some of those who who failed are now near being specialists with me in the UK.

I observed it is very easy to obtain an MBBS/BDS degree from other African institutes compared to European. I won't be surprised that the majority of those who failed this assessment were students who couldn't make it in Nigerian institutions but made it big in University of Sudan, Gambia, Mozambique, Cameroon, Lesotho, etc. Thumbs up to MBBS graduates of Uniport, UI, Unilag, UNN, etc, if they can succeed through the rigorous training here they can succeed anywhere in the world

Majority are Russian made doctors....They mostly go to Russia and not African countries

I didn’t say MDCN did something wrong. What I'm saying is the IMGs are exactly dunces for failing Nigerian exams since it wasn't their fortes. Nigerian docs also fail PLAB and USMLE too. Its how medical practice is structured

Nigerian Medical Schools are among the best in the world, and the developed world knows it.

That's why Nigeria-trained doctors easily slide into their hospitals like say na Instagram DM.

Please stop posting falsehood. Do your research if you must. Nigerian medical schools aren't amongst the best in the world. We just have smart students that get trained in poor or average medical schools. We make extra efforts and dig into our 'smart boxes' when we take foreign exams

Correct. Mentioned it in my post. Exam methodology is another problem MDCN have to improve.
Our guys here are lagging far behind in best medical practices worldwide. Its when we go on international conferences that we realize we are actually practicing cut and medicine here

No doctor in any teaching hospital who wouldn't know what laparoscopic surgery or bronchoscopy is, unless he or she doesn't know what he is doing...Even a medical student knows it.Dont exaggerate while trying to make sense..

But Nigeria educational curriculum is due for some adjustments though.

U guys are forgetting or ignoring the fact that one of the reason for the failure may be because the foreign trained doctors refuse to ''settle'' the Medical Council. I have personally seen that done in the past. Carry out proper investigation on the cause of the failure & you may be shocked

We need a change of orientation in this country. When a student es, it is I ed. When he fails, it turns to they failed me.
