Abuja hosted its first international marathon on Saturday.

Kenya’s Emmanuel Naibet and Bahrain runner Ruth Jebet won the men’s and women’s categories of the race.

Naibet won the race with a time of 2:13: 45. This is the second time Naibet is winning a marathon in Nigeria. He won the 2021 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Sadly, your words will fall on deaf ears as most Nigerians combine deep ignorance with extreme overconfidence which they top off with mule-like stubbornness. Just look at how they've managed to hijack a thread about a marathon competition into an opportunity to indulge the same old political nonsense about Sowore, as if they have to criticize any and every thing a public figure does if they disagree with the person's politics.

I will never take any of Sowore's opinions on politics seriously, but even so I applaud him for participating today, as at the very least his presence there helps spreads awareness that the event even exists, so little does the marathon on the average Nigerian's radar. Before today, how many people even knew there was an Abuja marathon? I certainly didn't - even the much bigger Lagos marathon hardly gets any coverage in the Nigerian media.
