I will get my visa from then come home and get married and then apply for his I-20 then he can me.

Estherbabe1000:
Hello everyone, I am new to the U.S. visa thread and I have gone through some parts of the thread as well. Guys I really need your help to answer all my questions . It’s somehow complicated, so I will give some background details
I currently live in , had my bachelors degree in German language in Nigeria and studying M.A intercultural communication( would be done in July hopefully)
So I got itted and was given a funding of 18,500 for a masters program in German studies. Tuition fee of 20k was waived.
The issue is I have a fiancé in Nigeria and I would love that we apply together, which means I have to come to Nigeria, get married so we apply together from Nigeria as well.
Guys would you advise, I apply from here while he applies for a dependent visa after I must have gotten my visa. I read there is an issue with appointment dates .
How much POF would he need, my school said I don’t need any.
I am unmarried now, will this affect my applications in any way since the school is dealing with me as a single person. Also at the point of visa interview, will this affect me? Because I will have the court wedding few days/ weeks to the wedding since I filled the form as single. Note , I can’t afford coming earlier, I can only fly home once. Please guys help me by responding .

Hello nairaland fam,
Please I’m really worried about something and I would love to share it on here
I have a low gpa of 2.57 on a scale of 5.00 in my undergraduate mechanical engineering
So I would love to know if there are schools anyone can recommend to me that would accept me for masters degree
I’m just worried because I’ve got ission refusal from MARSHALL and UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN and since then I’ve been down because they’re the school my hopes are on because of the high acceptances rate

I don’t know if anyone can advise me and also recommend school that accept low gpa of 2.57/5.00

MS graduating in April and starting OPT in May.

Sounds good. I'll probably be looking forward to OPT by the ending of the year. Man's got to take a u-turn for some reasons LoL. Have you gotten your EAD card? I learnt application is now directly from the USCIS. Do you need a new I-20 for OPT? I'm yet to really get myself involved in the OPT thing.

I got my EAD in early Feb. It was from USCIS. Your school will give you I-20, which you would use to apply.

So first, you apply on your school sight for OPT, then get approved and sent an updated I-20, which you will use to apply for your EAD from USCIS.
The cost is $410 as of today.

Note
Start applying for jobs 6 months before your graduation so that you do not get stranded.

Guys, just a quick one about the OPT thing please.
I understand that it is a one year work permit during or post study for international students in non STEM degrees.
If I activate the OPT while doing a 2 years Msc program, the permit should be exhausted one year into that program. Now, what happens in the second year please?
Further, If an OPT has been exhausted during study. Am I eligible for a new OPT after graduation?

Your clarity on the practicality of this will be very much appreciated 🙏

Warm Regards.

Thanks for the tip. So it means you basically need to apply on your school website for OPT first, and that'd prompt them to send an updated i20 for work authorization to the USCIS. Thanks. Some people talked about a way to have this $410 waived I don't know 😆

Medical appointment is mostly done for immigrant category. LGS Number is always a case number generated by NVC for immigrant applicants. Are you sure you are on the right thread?
