Oga mi, for the professionals it’s different because they have to ask clients permission to post.

And then some years back done know it all were too critical of work and prices.

I recently hired @Bolu1986 to handle the POP work for my building project and I am beyond impressed with the quality of work he has delivered. From start to finish, Bolu was professional, reliable, and dedicated to ensuring that the job was done to the highest standards.

His attention to detail was impressive, and he took the time to understand my vision for the project and delivered results that exceeded my expectations. The work was completed on time and within budget, and I was constantly updated on the progress of the job.

I would highly recommend Bolu to anyone looking for a skilled and reliable artisan. If you're looking for quality work, Bolu is your guy!

Thank you, Bolu, for a job well done!

. . . the guy no work for me but I recommend him over the one that did. 😂

LoL.....I guess there was a viral plague here 🤣🤣🤣

I got it from you guys oh...but the truth is, there will be a motivation to post for both old and new if like 3 or 4 persons update this tread with pictures of their projects...it is awkward if only one person does it...

True. Except in very dry land (the whole of Lagos excluded).

I don't think there is "dry land" that will not be affected by capillary action especially in the whole of Southern Nigeria..

I don't know about the Dry North.

Similar question was asked on December 2022.

Here was the question

Here was the answer:

Here was my response to that answer:

My advice? Fix this now. Don't wait.

Second advice, don't disturb the existing floor, make another floor atop it. As long as you place a DPM, I personally placed doubled DPM and the height of the new floor is at least 4 inches long, you will be good.

When water fights, unless you were well prepared, water will win.

Not breaking the floor will affect the height of his doors, floor to ceiling height and other things..

Except he hasn't done those yet.

I think we were discussing this and how the contractors will be liable if they were mandated to make the building resistant to Earthquake.

Hardly do you see dampened walls in the east. I can tell you, almost all the old buildings are without dpc .

For existing building, there is no other work around it, than that the roof must go and walls extended. Anything short of that would result in dwarfed head room.

I have experienced this problem first hand. In the 70s and early 80s, most parts of Itire/ Ikate including the present Aguda in old surulere in Lagos were all swamp before people started sand filling and building. They built mostly one floor houses. At first, those house were ok but fast forward to the 90s the problem started. My assumption is that because road were now construction which made those houses to sit below road level, water pressure tilted towards the buildings. Secondly, the foundations were not constructed with DPM.
Other than the walls were constantly damp, there was a more serious problem. Once it rains and the outside surroundings get flooded, it affects the inside.
You could visibly see water sipping throughout where the walls meet the floor. Within minutes you could have a river in your living space.
People would take different measures including sealants, tiles. Patching etc, none of these worked. Some broke the existing floor to make new one, with more concrete, it worsened leak.
The only thing that worked was to make another thick floor on the existing one without breaking the old floor. The problem with this is that it reduces the head room.
If you have a two floor building, you are stuck, you can’t raise the headroom for downstairs which is where the problem is but for bungalows, people went as far as removing the roofs, doors and windows to create more headroom.

You can’t believe it , I came across serious dampness in Niger state ( suleja) the dampness reached window base level both internal and external to the extent that the owner vacated the building .
In all my project now I do follow the full “definition of rising dampness”
It didn’t stated that such soils and area should be exempted ” means all soil and region needs dam proof.
That is my own simple understanding and prevention about it now

No contest.

I am just sharing what is easier to get done.

raise the floor, raise the walls, raise everything above the floor is easier than digging down to make things right.

Turkey has appointed over 200 prosecutors and several contractors not just this one have been detained.

Contractors this can happen here too.

One of the reasons why I went the whole way is the fact that the clothes in my box were getting moldy.

Even money that I kept in a box also started changing color due to mold, so I knew something was wrong.

I did not just redo the floor, I also brought down the walls, because the house has been that way for a decade.

The other issue is that the quality of the blockwork was worrisome.

All I can say it is that isn't easy to get done, in of funds and in of time.

Nearly all estate houses in Abuja suffer from this problem.

Nearly everyone has resigned themselves to this problem.

I stay in Abuja so I am speaking from experience.

I stayed in Niger State briefly and I can confirm your story.

Do you mean DPC or DPM?
Technically, DPC comes with the membrane (Nylon). Except if more procedural details are needed then DPM and other aspects of DPC could be outlined.

Currently I’m working in Eastern part I can tell you categorically that they do experience Risen dampness 💯 despite the fact of they’re construction approach, which they always use beams to take foundation level regardless of any type of building still they do fight with risen dampness.

Let all Nigeria are yet to have a Standard.
We are still using British standard. Which Dpc and Dpm clearly expressed.

Mind you all this recommended Construction method can still failed. If it is not properly done.

In a layman Dictionary: Damp prof course (Dpc) Is a a stage or layer btw foundation and Superstructure .

Damp prof membrane (Dpm). Is a material or element.
And this can be use in any area of Construction Building Or Road. For a technical purpose more than dampness.

To all this Definition is more than this! Technically or Professionally.

Nigeria is not an earthquake prone country. I don't think our standard buildings are supposed to be earthquake proof. You can only be liable if it is the law that all buildings are earthquake proof. Large parts of Turkey are earthquake prone areas and it is mandatory that houses are built to particular specifications to withstand as much as possible (nothing is 100% full proof) these devastating forces.

Hi everybody. At the moment I am building my country house. The hardest part was deciding what to do with the walls. I thought for a long time about whether to choose paint or wallpaper. After consulting with the designer, I decided to glue the wallpaper, we chose the most stylish ones using the platform fancywalls.eu. Now I choose furniture that matches the style and color palette of the house.
