I tried using my NIN since I don't have an ID card but it shows the message below.
Also, my NIN slip is in black and white and was issued over 5 years ago. So it is definitely not the smoothest out there.

If you are more of a visual learner, a simple Youtube will work, there tons of videos, but if you prefer reading material, you can study the API Reference from Google, it's written with detail to give you an insight into Chrome Extension Architecture, it's mostly HTML, CSS and JS mixed with Chrome API (still JS).
