It was a risky and dumb move. It actually flew over or in very close proximity to very sensitive installations and could have gathered very important telemetry data and sent them back to China. No country wants its enemies, or even allies to have access to its sensitive telemetry data. Any way, the people that made the decision knows better, I just hope they do not regret this decision in the future.

My emotions may likely lean towards the USA sometimes but I must it that China and Russia are very powerful and formidable enemies. USA should be careful and sometimes try to address some of their concerns. But hey, its a jungle out there and there will always be enemies.

That Ballon was 60,000 feet up oooo. Not even commercial planes fly that high

Chinese and Russian satellites are only a little higher if there was anything new to be seen the US would have shot that thing down sharply

China first made a mistake in not studying the wind patterns before flying the balloon, because their excuse of bad winds could have been avoided. or didn't the balloon have onboard wind detector to change course before encountering winds? didn't it have little steering mechanism to steer away from winds. america could have shot it down over the sea before entering their mainland, but we have to understand two things, likely the balloon and all its mechanisms were stealthy, the balloon is made of clothlike nylon, or other fabric material, and those materials are stealthy. The solar on the baloon is glass, and glass is stealthy to radar, (metal and steel are greatly detected on radar(electromagnetic waves). coupled with the smooth shape of the balloon,distance and height,its very stealthy. so in my opinion america radar thought they were looking at a bird at most, or one of their own devices. only when it got close did usa realise after closer inspection and intelligence that its a spy, or weather balloon, then it was too late. and now the shooting down. how do you see this facts?

Here's my analysis, the balloon has been in the US airspace for days and the US didn't talk about it until it was sighted by individuals. It might probably mean that the US didn't even detect the balloon when it first enter their airspace.
Secondly, if the US claim they detect it while it was entering its airspace, why didn't they shoot it down the moment it was entering its airspace?
Either way it shows a weakness of the US decision makers.
Lastly it shows China has the balls to violate the US sovereignty and no consequence was given to them.

Any asset that has to do with communication or tracking cannot be placed underground. Sattelites, radars and their signals cannot be hidden underground.

If you notice you will see that I am talking specifically about telemetry signals and not about pictures or videos that the Ballon might take.
