Please what does this mean…. I really do not understand the meaning of that last 60 semester credit

Might mean the last 6 semesters credit, if thats correct then that will be your 200-400 or 300-500L as the case may be.

Good day every one
I got an ission offer since August 2022, for masters study into the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE for Fall 2023 (which is the only school i applied to because the offer came in the following day) but with no funding and the total fee is $55k which will be paid by my uncle who is a customs officer, and on my i-20 the ending date is May 2026 (approximately 3 years) so i was speaking with someone (as per getting visa appointment date) and after some questions the person said the VO might have issues with the fees and not approve the visa because paying $55k seem a like with the current exchange rate (I wish i can find someone to explain this to with VN and screenshot), this has got me really worried, and i don't know whether to start looking for other schools or still try to apply for the visa first

Really looking forward to getting responses.

Still awaiting responses, please

55k/per year is much with or without the high exchange rate. Even US citizens will struggle to pay that amount yearly without taking out loans.

Thank you so much for your response, although i do not intend to attend the school when i get there, do you think there's any way i can get a visa approval for this or do i start looking into other options?

This school do not fund Masters students ( Please correct me if I’m wrong). They also require you to secure a supervisor before you’re itted into their PhD program and they need official transcript evaluation and GRE score.

When people say funding, do they often mean that their ission letters should come with free money that would not require them to do some kind of work in return?
Sisib15: 1:20pm On Feb 04, 2023
If you meet the requirements, you can apply

Typically no. RA/TA etc require you to do some kind of work. Fellowship on the other hand, do not require any kind of work.

Well it’s not a matter of meeting the requirements or applying, securing a supervisor isn’t easy. And sending official Wes evaluation and gre score cost money especially if one isn’t sure of getting in. But thank you for the information. Others who are interested can apply.

Yeah, I know about Fellowships. But I hear people talk about funding so much these days, that I began to wonder if Fellowships are no longer merit-based. Except, they're seeking some kind of reduction in their tuition, surely that many people cannot be qualified to want a piece of those Fellowships...and this is why I assume that every Masters student, especially from Africa, shouldn't be choosey as to start by ignoring graduate assistantships, when even PhD candidates apply for GA.

Anyway, I don't know what program you are applying to, but I know for a fact that Georgia Southern has GAs. For Masters students.

$55k without funding is very high… and you’re in high risk category of abandoning your study cos your uncle as custom officer doesnt make that much in a yr or 2. The VO is going to focus on how much a customer officer in his rank makes in a year… not his side hustle

I previously checked out their mechanical engineering MS program and their Environmental Science PhD program and I don’t think their MS in Mechanical Engineering funds their students and the PhD requires one to find a supervisor. The fact that they require official transcript and gre score is even more annoying.

But they recently posted a GA ad for Mechanical Engineering for the Fall 2023 term. Yeah.

Also, you can try Virginia tech..they love engineers. There, even though they listed the WES as a a criterion, people I know only just sent the one they did with the gpa calculator...

$55k COA annually is a lot. Does your custom officer 'Uncle' make that in a year? Are you his only responsibility? Why will he pay this if he has the money?
Try and apply to other schools and see if you can get funding. What is your Profile like? What course? With funding, your visa application will be easier..

The thing is not all courses require you to secure a supervisor before ission and regarding WES, just because you don't have doesn't mean others don't have. Mind you, i only said the school is waiving app fee.

If I get you well, this is the only school you applied to and you have the mindset of just getting visa and not going to school. Not like you want to transfer to another school right? This is one of the reasons some genuine students get rejected at the embassy. Unless maybe you have a plan to transfer which I doubt you will.

This is not true. I have friends here doing MS with funding. Depending on your department. Another thing about this school is, apply and get ission, there is a site where they post vacant GAs, try and monitor the site to apply for GA on time once posted. But you must have been itted before been able to apply for GA.
