I thought peeps here may have heard of it atleast. I'm a bit surprised. Oh well... Horror ain't my thing anyway.

If it's a conventional horror, people will talk about it.
In my experience, when a movie is way more puzzling than it's interesting, people will often disregard it.
I when people were excited about The Northman.
Everyone thought it's going to be something like Vikings but to our chagrin, it was an art movie.
And just like that, the buzz it generated prior to release, disappeared.
No one talked about it again.

Skinamarink will probably share the same fate. Last last we just want simple entertainment.

I've been seeing stuff about the movie on Twitter.
Still, it's not on my radar.

Netflix has been making smart decisions for the past 4yrs in the movie department with grabbing bonafide stars and top directors to their films.
Not the indie crap filled with literal unknowns they're known for.
I don't think it has made any difference as none of the movies, taking 2022 as a case study, was really "stellar", so saying they have be making "smart decisions" in the last 4 years might be a stretch. I don't think any of thier movies is in the running for any major awards in this award season. I saw a demo of thier 2023 movies slate, and it's only "Rebel Moon" that really got me excited. They were even bold enough for make sequels for "Murder Mystery" and "Extraction" which are clearly 'one off movies", they way the plots went. A clear recipe for failure if you ask me, but we wait.

I feel Netflix is satisfied with shunning out popcorn flick movies, especially movies studios usually make in the past but now ignore in favour of blockbusters.

Perhaps they’ve observed that people see their movies for the entertainment and nothing more. Most of their popular movies in the last two years have been mindless action flicks like gray man, or romantic comedies like the kissing booth and to all the boys I’ve loved.

I fee they are following the same route this year.

I’m kind of happy for them for being able to attract A-list actors and directors. At least, this would make audience anticipate their movies.

In all my years on Nairaland I've only reported a single post but if you don't stop this madness you've carried over from last year to this new year, I'll start reporting your post.

WTF is wrong with you? You'd post a TV show on the movie thread and post a movie on the series thread. You've been told to stop this but you've chosen to remain redundant.

The "pop corn" flicks shouldn't just be all they have to offer in an entire year movie slate, it is not a sustainable model and they will loose relevance really fast. Thier earnings are entirely based on streaming and that's why they should have a good mix of solid flicks and pop corn flicks. Their competition is quite stiff now with HBO max , Disney plus, AMC+ and Paramount+ in the game now. They should have the most "subscribers sharing s" among the streaming platform and this thier model is why, people aren't willing to pay to see pop corn flicks that aren't worthwhile week in, week out and so they rather lease s.

Funny enough, some of the best movies i have seen, Private Lives (2018), The Ballads of Buster Scruggs (2018), and Marriage Story (2019), were all from Netflix...i pray they go back to this era.

Screenwriters, filmmakers, and actors are like whores_.

If the price is right, they will write, direct, and star in your project.

Netflix churned out quite a few quality content in 2018/2019. Quality, I suppose, isn't as profitable as quantity.

I don't think you're being fair to Netflix. In the past four years they've upped their game.

They delivered Oscar serial nominees and winners like Roma, The Irishman, Trial of Chicago 7, Marriage Story, The Harder They Fall, Don't Look Up, The Two Popes and Mank. All these are Best Picture nominees asides The Harder They Fall.
They even got best director last year for The Power of the Dog directed by Jane Campion amidst several nominations.

This year Oscars or awards season while not very strong lineup, they have Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, White Noise, The Good Nurse and Blonde which I feel is very generic asides De Armas performance. It already has a Globes nomination for Best Actress as well as pendings for BAFTA and Oscars.

Also, All Quiet On The Western Front which I would call stellar is up for Best Foreign Film.
You're quite mistaken.

Yea, I agree with you.
They're following the same route but are now also focused on critically acclaimed movies and top talents as well.
Netflix gets a lot of flak for chunning out trash but I can say under one female exec's leadership, they've been pushing for better storytelling too asides the popcorn flicks.

Heck, Netflix is the biggest contender to HBO now in of Emmys and TV awards. There's a industry wide speculation that Oscars don't really like Streamers winning big in their ceremony but have been slowly receptive over the years.
Best picture and Director went out to streamers last year. Apple TV+ and Netflix.

Netflix turn out quantity most of the time but are slowly seeing the importance of Quality.

In The Realm of The Senses (1976) .....5.9/10

Omo, I no know Wetin I go watch. It's an erotic Japanese drama focusing on sexual perversion and the likes and bruh, I thought I've seen aloy with "Shame". This one is on a whole new level.
I can imagine how audiences felt watching the movie when it was released at that era. Definitely a divisive and controversial flick.
Nudity and full frontals from start to finish as well as penetrative performances and all there is. Pirates dey learn work where this one dey.

The ending was the most bizarre shït I've seen in a long while if not taking the cake. Funny enough, it's a true life adaptation of an event in 1936. shocked
