Today, I am excited to announce the g of a tripartite agreement between the Imo State Government, the Nigerian Navy and a consortium of companies led by Geomarine Services for the Urashi River Development which will include the survey and dredging of the Oguta Lake and Urashi River to the sea.

It is no longer correct to assume that Imo State is landlocked because this 93km dredging of the lake to the sea will not just offer an improved security coverage along the coastline, it will also create access for commercial navigation and other forms of oil and gas activities boosted.

The harnessing of our available resources and potentials in developing our dear State, remains a critical approach in the actualization of our drive towards repositioning the State for economic growth and stability.

This will usher in the creation of economic zone around the gas-rich region of our dear State for the benefit of all.

Besides, dredging from Imo state to River is too far and could cause adverse effect such as ocean surge. It would be River people who would suffer it. Why don't you dredge from Abia state?
