I want to try farming but want to avoid crops cows can eat in order to avoid farmer versus herder clash.
What are the crops experienced farmers can recommend?

I heard okra too is not liked by cows due to it's slimy nature.
I am thinking other slimy crops too are strong candidates.

Try melon and pepper. Animals do feed on those 2 crops.

Look for crops that are poisonous to cattle and sow them around your farm.

Even if they didn't eat the crops. They'll still through the farm repeatedly, trampling on the crops. Talking from experience

There is nothing cows don't destroy. Even if they don't eat them, their presence in your farm and just walking around it will destroy your plants. Best advice is just to secure your farm in the best way you can to avoid them entering into it.

Plant oil palm if you own the land. Anything else would be food for Fulani cattle. Oil plam will mature in 5 years.

I don’t know which country apart from Nigeria gives cows the freedom to enter people’s property and sack farmlands.

I am yet to hear any Fulani herdsmen prosecuted for a crime of tresing people’s farmlands and destroying crops with their cows and murdering those who resist.
The creators of One Nigeria did not factor these and many issues causing strife before calling for independence

Many farm destructions aren't about feeding on crops.
It is the movement of the cows through the farms.

If cows freely move or graze around your farm, it is not safe unless it is fenced.

This is not a good practice and may not prevent what one is avoiding because the herdsmen may likely make your farm a target if they find out that your perimeter crops are actually poisonous since many of the cows who had fed on those poisonous crops would have died.

Do we have castor in Nigeria?

Interesting question. Following closely to learn.

Government need to do more to protect farms and farmers from herdsmen. We have people ready to farm but have to be reasoning herdsmen.
