I hop someone will be able to assist.
So my Aunt is a South African woman who was married to a Nigerian man she met in South Africa.
They had a child & when he turned 9 months her husband suggested they visit his family in Nigeria.
A few hours before leaving for the airport back to South Africa, his parents sat her down and told her the baby would have to stay.
After many words & tears her father in law and husband assured her that he would be back in a 6 months to fetch the baby.
True to his word, 6 months later my Uncle in law returned to Nigeria to fetch his children, but 2 days after he arrived he got seriously sick & ed on a few days later.
My Aunt traveled to Nigeria to lay him to rest & had to extend her stay because her in laws kept giving her the run around about why she couldn't take her child (apparently some rituals had to be done for the child since his father had just ed).
She eventually left after her father in law warned her that if she keeps pushing, they (his wife a daughter) would do to her what was done to her husband.
Fast forward 11 years later, her father in law, & mother in law are both late, she sends money to Nigeria every month for her sons upkeep but her sister in law is withholding the child, does not allow him to communicate with her.
When a neighbor tries to let him speak with his mother, they beat him up, sometimes he doesn't go to school and has to go sell water at the market.
My Aunt has tried going with the Nigerian police but failed, has involved the Nigerian embassy but they are dragging their feet. We really do not know what else to do.
Why would they withholding someone's child (a mother who desperately wants her child back) when they can't even take care of his needs.
Maybe someone has been through a similar experience and may be able to help with suggestions of how to get the child back to his mother.
She needs to pay the police in abuja to arrest d sister and anybody involved. While they sorting that out she'll just take her child

She better report to right activists in the country that her son has been kidnapped before they make him useless in life. She should petition or report the case to the Inspector General of police in Nigeria on their social media handles. I know a case like this where the family ruined the life of the son. It was when they have made the son amount to nothing in life that they now release him to the mother. It will happen if she did nothing.
We are in a country where it's citizens glorify bad leaders and select them to preside over their affairs. Please act fast.

She should go to the South African Embassy in Lagos and have them raise a case of child abduction with Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Then leak the details to a tabloid with their full names and photos.

A lot of people are not thinking in this angle. The family can easily prove that she abandoned this child. Who leaves a 9months old baby in another country? That person will kill me first before I can leave leave my child for them.
Now she has evidence of ing this child every month. This will be accepted in court and since her husband and parents in-laws are dead, she may he awarded custody.
She needs a good lawyer. Even if she doesn't get custody, the lawyer will make sure the child is well taking care of. Then she will wait till the next 7yrs when the child is 18. She will take him then.
11yrs is a long time
magicminister:
Regardless of the circumstances, how do you abandon your child for 11 years?

Something is missing in the story.
Do you have marriage certificate either court or church marriage?
If they do,go to court but if not the case will be difficult to handle.
Have you been in your husband country for at least one year ? To build relationships with family and if you really came for marriage
How do you know the boy is selling pure water any pictures to confirm this ?
Do you still have evidence of sending money to them for child upkeep?
I don't believe the father in-law said that he will do her what he did to his son.
If he is wicked I don't believe he is stupid too to tell you his evil plan if he wanted the child badly than he grown up son you alleged he killed.
There are cases where the man's family takes care of the dead brothers son . If the boy is up to 18 he will decide in court to stay with his father's family or back to South Africa based on relationship.
There's more to this story.

This isn't a Nigerian thing.
It happens all over the world, and even within other countries. Families withholding children from their parents
It is even worse when two countries are involved.
One case involved an American man. His wife (from Brazil) divorced him and ran back home with their son and her new lover. Man tried to get his child back through legal means...e no do. It took the man involving his Senator...who just happened to be on a comittee that was looking at a trade deal with Brazil....before his son was released to him.
.

She needs to put the law in motion in South Africa. Let there be a judgment stating the boy is hers, attach the birth certificate. She would bring the South African judgment to Nigeria which would be ed as a foreign judgment here to be adopted by a Nigerian Court as its own judgment- this registration should be done in the state where the child is being held by the Inlaws. The Nigerian Court having adopted the foreign judgment can commence enforcement which would involve the court baliff and the police. I see the in laws holding the child as a means of extortion... They can't keep a child away from his mother most especially as he is still a minor. I hope this helps.

When d boy come of age believe me he will come for you, the hardship in this country will give him estral zeal to come looking for you in South Africa when he is old enough.

The case is very easy to get done. As in, very easy.
Don'ts:
1. Never do it outside Nigeria
2. Do not involve police without a Nigerian
3. Do not just involve lawyers yourself...be strategic.
Dos:
1. You must have pieces of evidence.
2. Be ready to take a trip to Nigeria and watch.
3. Then police immigration, etc can be involved when you are fully on ground (the mom).
Do not just be irrational. If the mom is ready, she must relocate to Nigeria to not only fight but destroy the family which is very easy. As in, you destroy them.
Get a visa, rent an apartment in Nigeria, and bring some cash. That's all. Everything will fall into place. When she gets here, as long as she has a trained and trusted person, it is very easy. You will be shocked. Just don't anything from abroad.
The family will sleep in jail, and they will beg and beg before they are released. I assured you. Of course, lawyers will be involved...and police will be tipped to beat the hell out of their lives. In their lives, they will never try it cos they will answer for kidnapping and extortion...also, they will be made to pay for the life of the child they wasted.
You will even get a Nigerian port for the child before he leaves for South Africa with the mom. As in, you will get all the benefits for the child. While the case is going on, the child will start attending a good school here if it will take months. Of course, the mom can leave and return after the child is out of their custody. The case may take longer, and its why I said the child may start going to a good school here first. But when she comes, the child must leave their custody before she departs. Thats the first missio , and if possible, the child may even leave wirh her. This is the kind of case I like. Ha! They will pay dearly. As in, they will regret the day they were all born.
Who born them well? Just get a DNA test and they will be begging like goats...that's when you will pay the police to deal with them...and pay lawyers to make sure they are all jailed. Police will make their lives so terrible that they will run and beg like goats.
That's all. Very easy case. But if you try doing it from abroad, sorry...they will just be collecting your money.
Goodluck!
