How much are they selling plantain in local market around you?
Which market can I sell at a good price and do I go about selling it?

These and more are questions people been asking me around this season of harvest.
I have discussed these times without numbers how to go handle the sales and marketing of your plantains after harvest.

There are 3 major factors that determine the sales prices. These are :
1. The sizes of the plantain,
2. The location of markets you sell your plantain.
3. season you harvest your Plantain.

1. Sizes these depends on how big is your Plantain bunch. This can be achieve by taken two steps, if you get a good breed like my own, which is available for procurement at anytime, and get a suitable soil to cultivate it.
This size is very important to determine how much you will sell it. If you have small bunches, I will advise you should not sell it directly, you may decide to process it into chips and sell it directly.
From my practical experience I have 5 bunches of plantain which are very small and I decided to process it Into Plantain chips, after I remove money for vegetables and other to process plantain chips, I have extra profit of N45,000 from 5 bunches not up till half bunches. If I decided to take it to Market to sell it can't sell a dozen more than 25k no matter the season. Therefore the size and add t
value to your products will bring you more money.

Yee you can apply it your fertilizer of any kind during dry season, but you need to do some extra work. What you need to do it to wet the whole farm very well by make sure that the land is property wet so that the soil can soak the fertilizer to enable it absorb by the crops.
After wetting you can apply your fertilizer.. following day you wet it again by then the fertilizer should be mix with the soil.
Hope you know how to wet your crops during dry season. You have to wake up very early in the morning and should be done before 9am.

I will not idea of set up your plantain on fire. This is because it is too risky. What I will suggest is to wait till rainfall resume, reposition where you plant is before. I mean, you move like 2-3ft away from previous point, you plant new plantain on it and indirect you forget about previous one.

You will definitely get new results, you don't need to burn the farm or apply fertilizer, they have no or little effect to the challenge you are facing now....

One question: Old suckers will definitely appear from the old plant as this is beginning to come out as rain poured here twice heavily this week.

Yes, it will be able over populated, but your question, you said your plantain of 5 years old is no longer big again. Those new suckers that produce will not big like the first batch you initially planted. That very spot has weak it can't longer produce big Butch for you. What you need to do is to look for all means to reduce the population of the original plantain and encourage the new one.

By the time you plantain at another spot it will look like new farm.... you dont need to buy any suckers again. You extra your suckers from old farm.

I think you got my point clearly. Either you apply manure or you burn it, it can't change the out put.. I have tried the method and it work for me.

The only herbicide o know that can kill Plantain is 2-4 D you need to use original one ..and make sure the concentration is high...
Plantain is very difficult to wipe out with herbicide...

Hello Boss, fire enter my farm in January this year. In fact I find it very difficult to trace where it come from. I mean my plantain farm. Please what should I do or is that is end of my plantain farm. Please I need your advice.

In case you are experience the same thing z just wait till rainfall resume full and cleared the weed.

Thank you my oga, you may decide to sell it at anything form you choose. You may decide to sell it raw plantain or as plantain flour.

If you have been following my post and have talk extensively on how to proceed or sell your Plantain flour.

Let me brief you again, you will need to peel it and slice your plantain into two or more. Then you may decide to sell it after dry. When it properly dry it will definitely reduce inside tou will feel the sound of dry and odour of plantain flour.

You may go further by decide to Grand am t with grand machine into powder form. Or you may decide to leave it on ground to allow to Grand it by him or her self. This is reason why some seller are mixed banana with with it, therefore let your buyers see what you have for them.

In another way you may decide to brand it with beautiful nylon. This is attract more customers to procure your product and maie you outstanding than from others.

If you are planning to rent lease or Purchase a land for any agriculture purpose, I will advise you not to go for any land you see this kind of weed on it.

The weed is call Elephant Grass or some people call it Lemon Grass. The weed is too stubborn and very difficult to control. If you brush the farm today, in few days it will start growing again. No any amount of herbicide you apply to control this weed, it is very difficult to get rid off.

Majority of farmers who cultivate on this land regret of venture Into that kind of land. Some left the farm without harvest anything from it. I will advise you not go into it at all. You can see the picture below.

This is exert what I am facing now. This is kind of land I cultivated my corn on and cassava. I just tired. I saw the land without trees, to me I thought it going to be the best because it has no trees that means I will spend less on clearing. Now it now threat to me, I don't know may be I should abandon d land of if can see any herbicide that can control the weed permanently...
