The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will on Monday hold an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The emergency NEC meeting was conveyed to discussed the payment of 18 days as salary for October to lecturers in federal universities.

The Federal Government on Thursday paid university lecturers half salary for October while remaining an outstanding of seven months, which it has refused to pay.

The payment of half salary to university lecturers is currently generating ripples on various campuses.

“When I got the alert, I was shocked about the amount credited to my . I had to call a colleague and she confirmed reduction in the amount paid her. I also informed my branch chairman about the development.

“This government is not sincere with it approach to the whole issue. Since we suspended the eight month-strike, lecturers are being treated like little kids without regards. I don’t feel like going to the class again but for the students, we have to do the needful, a senior UNILAG lecturer revealed.

One of ASUU zonal coordinators told Daily Sun that NEC meeting has been fixed for Monday and top on the agenda is the half paid salary.

“Many of our are agitated over the government action. If not for our students, I will push for strike. Our leaders must draw the attention of the House of Representatives Speaker, who mediated before we suspended the strike, the coordinator stated.

While lecturers are complaining about half salary, the non-academic staff were paid full salary for October.

Some of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) told Daily Sun that government paid them full salary.

With the October payment, the Federal Government is now owing ASUU seven months outstanding salaries and five months for non-teaching staff.

They cannot invest in education, but they have money to redesign currency & buy sniffer dogs. Currupt politicians whose certificates are questionable will never understand what education is. Season 2 of ASUU strike looming under one year & in the space of nearly 2 weeks.

My colleague, PhD senior lecturer for 10 years was paid 142k. After calculations, we discovered that the government prorated the payment for 18 days.
THIS IS TO SAY THAT, A SENIOR STAFF - PHD HOLDER THAT HAS SERVED THE SYSTEM FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS CAN NOT EVEN BOAST OF 300K SALARY IN A MONTH.

US dollar today, Friday 4th of November is ₦880.
When this useless cow was elected in 2015, dollar was just 200+, today it's X 4 and before he leaves, it will definitely be over 1000 and x 6.

280k salary in a month is barely $320!!!
Indeed, Nigeria is doomed under these cows' rulership. Fool ani fools.

Students should just zero their minds that they can never get the best out of any lecturer again. Unless that lecturer is a thief or a FOOL.

AFTER 8 MONTHS OF STARVATION, THIS IS THE BEST FG CAN DO.

unfortunately, they already lost the right to a long strike after calling off that strike, it should take them a fresh 3 to 4 months from now on to initiate and embark on another strike, legally..

Should they go on strike at this time, it is going to be a big shame on them. They could have chosen not to resume than keep risking the lives of students making them travel when they know their demands are yet to be met.
