I noticed a consistent behavioural pattern among Nigerian billionaires who run big businesses. This behaviour is pronounced more among Mike Adenuga of Glo Brand and Aliko Dangote. The behaviour is this: these business owners hardly hire Nigerians as business executives to run their businesses. They prefer to travel as far as Pakistan, India, or Lebanon to hire their nationals to come to Nigeria to run their business. Dangote's top executives are mainly from India and then Lebanese, while Mike prefers hiring Pakistan nationals to run Glo for him with his daughter Bella. Dangote started hiring Indians business executives when he was a trader and since he transitioned into an industrialist, he has not looked back as he has doubled down in hiring them. Hiring these guys comes at a steep price. Most Dangote Group executives are Lebanese or Indian, and their annual salaries are up to 300 million naira per annum when converted to our local currency. Aside from the high cost that they charge as salaries, you provide a duplex accommodation in Ikoyi or Banana Island with an SUV for them. You also provide Hilux vehicle with policemen protecting them against kidnappers since they are endangered specie because of their white complexion. Devakumar V. G. Edwin is one of Dangote's trusted lieutenants, as Aliko does not joke with him. He has been with him since 1992, when he ed the business as a general manager. At that time, Dangote was still a mega importer and a trader. Edwin helped to transition the Dangote group into the industrial behomth that it is today from a trading company. He is the one supervising the refinary project in Lekki for Dangote as Dangote trusted him so much, having supervised the building of the cement plants for the group all over Africa. When you convert what Devakumar V. G. Edwin earns into Naira because he is paid in dollars by the Dangote group, the man earns more than 350 million naira salary per year. Just like the rest of Dangote's top executives, he is an Indian national, and it is the same story across the whole gamut of Dangote's executives. . The CEO Of Dangote sugar, RAVINDRA SINGH is an Indian national. The same with the CEO of Dangote Cement. Now I want to understand: Why, despite the high cost of hiring them, are these Forbes billionaires more comfortable hiring Pakistanis, Indians, or Lebanese than Nigerians to manage their businesses in Nigeria? Are they more ruthlessly efficient than their Nigerian business executives? Is there any reason why this is so? 10 Likes 8 Shares |

@OP, I deduce that you have inferiority complex. Why would you want to know their reasons. Don't you have some other things to invest your time and resources on rather than gaslighting private businesses in a condescending manner. |

Most Nigerians are criminals. Ordinary shop you employ them to manage, they'll steal your money to the last penny. If you mistakenly send double money to someone, maybe you sent 5k and it was pending and you performed another transfer, and both transaction were successful, you'll have to involve both physical and spiritual means in order to get back your money no matter how small it is. Most Nigerians lack integrity, they're out to cheat you, steal from you, scam you...they don't care about your success. If those billionaires you mentioned hired Nigerians to manage their business, they wouldn't be where they are today. Know this and have peace. This I have seen. 17 Likes 4 Shares |

Another angle I'm looking at it is the fact that foreigners don't have what I will call "local know-how". A foreign CEO has no local allegiance except to the company that brought them in. Even if he did something bad, escaping out of Nigeria will be nearly impossible. A Nigerian who grew up in Nigeria knows different ways to fork you up, and even if you're wealthy, you're somehow at their mercy because you have a lot to loose. A local knows the bad guys, and can escape to his village, he looks like everyone and can't be caught easily. the biblical story in the book of mathew where Jesus was taken to Egypt, to hid him there, because he probably looks like the Egyptian, to prevent being killed by king Herold. An Indian who did something bad cant hide in Abuja or even the deepest village of Enugu. His skin colour, accent, and appearance will fish him out. He has no family here, and it's in his best interest to be loyal to Dangote. Wealthy men have different ways of seeing the world than the average people, though their ways seem confusing to some people, but to them, it's a game of chess and the best move. They are not at the top by being ordinary in thinking, but by being extra-ordinary. As a billionaire, safety is one of your major concerns, especially safety from your inner circle. If Dangote for example sacks his Indian CEO< it also means the CEO is leaving Nigeria, his work visa is cancelled, and he has no local knowhow to deal with Dangote. A Nigerian CEO who is vengeful may have local connections and know how to mess you up. He can spill secrets and do you harm, and also cant be expelled from Nigeria. So the amount these CEO are paid is the only risk the company bears, especially when these CEOs turn up billions of dollars in profits annually. Until we are able as a people and as a country, trends like this won't end. 27 Likes 8 Shares |

ebexofficial:Is better than the angel you just met. But Nigerians are meant to be the devil and these Lebanese and indians to be the Angel just known. It's pure lack of trust in Nigerian expertise from Dangote, Adenuga and co. I don't blame them though. The over ambition of som Nigerians hired in the past might v caused it. If a crook Nigerian has access in a firm, he/she ll wreck the ace to the extent that you ll feel like cutting such person to pieces as the only punishment. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Threesha:Most Nigerians/Albeit Africans have Trust/Loyalty Issues! Are Nigerians truly Steadfast-Loyalty to You the Proprietor or To His Own Richness via Scheming You till Your Company is run Aground ! As a Billionaire with Vast Businesses Empire on Huge Debts .... You don't wanna Gamble with Loyalty/Trust........ Honesty is not necessary even if you lie to Me as a Billionaire I would like to think of it as beneficent to the Company not My Personal Self nor Your Personal Self .... That's Steadfast-Loyalty! Most Nigerians don't do well on Loyalty/Trust Faculty and Few who do well on Loyalty/Trustworthiness have been rendered Fearful by Religion Indoctrinations thus there are some Black-Deals they wouldn't wanna take because it's a Sin, You don't want to Sin and You want the Best ![]() Billionaires are not Afraid and their Close associates too are People who must be Fearless ... That's how to make Money and Big Money !... Deals/Loyalty/Trusts/Comradeship .... Key to Business Empire! 3 Likes 1 Share |

Trust, loyalty and efficiency . Most of these expatriate are both seasoned s and efficient businessmen hence their ability to keep these businesses solvent and operational. They don't 'immediately' try to steal the business into oblivion like most of our people would try to do...so, might be why they are preferred. 3 Likes 3 Shares |

Trust Loyalty, take a look at what is happening in the church, nobody want to serve anyone. All you'll hear is God has call me, as soon as they started with a pastor before you know they have their brand. If that manager you mentioned was a Nigerian, he would have open his own company and start calling Dangote names. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

FalseProphet1: It is more than that actually. Aesops fable of the goose that laid the golden egg. It sounded like a bizarre and silly story. You have a goose laying golden eggs and then you decide to kill it because you think there are more eggs inside the goose and you cant wait for the eggs to be laid. Your average Nigerian including the ceo is content to loot a company into oblivion. Not 5% skimming, not 10% skimming - 70%. Mindless theft that will destroy the business. That is what dangote has seen. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

It looks concerning but there are a number of reasons. Expertise - all over the world, Indians, Lebanese and Pakistani are part of the most skilled business managers, especially in one-man business settings. They cherish MBA. Generally, they quickly understand the terrain and are very prudent with spending. No waste. They also have a way of making workers productive. (Employees might see it as slavery though, but employers have different perspective). No naija factor - you can hardly employ a Nigerian as a rich man to manage your business without making them rich, either you do it consciously or they defrauding you, or both. Either way they become rich on you and become a threat, or biz competitor. They can use juju, hired killers, family , govt. agents, anything at all to eat your money, and your business secrets are not safe. International exposure - many of those guys have worked in Europe, UK, US and can use their network to help the business expand abroad. Racism in Nigeria - yes, many Nigerians are racists. If you go for business introduction meeting or presentation as Nigerian, all the board or management (who are also Nigerians) are more concerned about your person than your skills or offers. But when they see white skin, even if the price is higher and the expertise is lower (I've seen first hand cases of this), they will ask questions more objectively! So if you can afford white skin, let them represent your business. Other reasons may be there. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

MENTALITY While this nationals will most likely continue focusing on improving their managerial skills and portfolio to optimun A Nigerian on the other hand may start nursing ambitions to surpas the employer or he/she may become envious of the profit or livestyle of the employer which might propel them to start diverting the business fund toward their own pockets. 4 Likes 3 Shares |
