Before And After Looks Of A Mansion Totally Submerged By Floods (pics/video) (72044 Views)

Nlanalyst: I would imagine it depends largely on the type of natural water channels (width, depth and numbers of rivers) on the Nigerian side that take water from said dam in Cameroon. If there's a large body of water (like say the Benue or other large rivers) that can take the water as it enters Nigeria, then the land around these rivers would see less flooding than further downstream where the water gathers, meets narrower rivers and little streams, and also meets up with water coming from the river Niger. This is why the confluence area of Lokoja also sees massive flooding too. It has little or nothing to do with states bordering Cameroon being more proactive than states like Kogi, Anambra, Delta, Imo and Bayelsa. |

[ Anambra river is a tributary of river niger. Any community where the river ed is in trouble, this one has nothing to do with drains. In Rivers state, communities in Onelga and Ahoada are also affected ,in Bayelssa six out of eight LGA are affected. So the moment upper Niger starts flooding, those in lower Niger should be prepared. ote author=Nlanalyst post=117626115] It has everything to do with improper town planning, especially when it's happening in the East. Eastern Nigeria has nothing to do with flood this much. Look at Delta State, the areas mostly affected by the overflow of river Niger are used for farming and not for habitation. Unless the excessive overflow of the river basin as it is currently. Isn't South East landlocked on norms? [/quote] 2 Likes |

Chuks140: Thanks Chucks....my sentiments too. Your post mirrors mine! Reading the Nlanalyst, you can tell he has other motives for his irrational stand on the issue! He's trying all he can to blame south-east gov'ts, while giving all others and his federal gov't a ! Then he mentioned out of nowhere....even when there's no nexus, that 'south-east is landlocked'....probably a issue that gives him a boner and makes him sleep well at night! 1 Like |

Stop giving your jobs to quacks who has nothing to add to your ideas. They will just start digging anyhow and anywhere. Building on flood plains and water ways is dangerous.

lagosrd: You have a point regarding lack of proper town planning in ALL states in Nigeria, but in this instance, the flooding has more to do with man-made factors (owing to the actions and inactions of both the Nigerian and Cameroonian gov'ts) than natural causes. |

PROUDIGBO: Yes of course but no single state has one working planning law. They do it with padi padi arrangement. All they do is operation wait for people to build and then demolish all in the name of sanitization of the environment only for them to approve housing estates there. Meanwhile, have you asked that those people that approved such building plans have never been punished before. They keep recycling corrupt people their system. |
