freshvine: I am sure, you know nothing about industrial areas or maybe you lack exposure Fyi, Industrial areas in Nigeria have 24/7 electricity. Some of the companies there, have their own independent power stations. |

freshvine: LOL how did obi liberate anambra state if he could not give anambra steady power supply to stabilize the sector or encourage local productivity, how then do you think he can do this on a national level? |

thebosstrevor1: I have been following your write ups and responses but the above is not entirely true. I happen to live close to an industrial area in lagos which has about 4 leading productiion companies in Nigeria base in Lagod..I do not see any steady power supply there. They run on gen,,I am talking about companies in ikeja.. 1 Like |

I was wondering too, I think it’ll be counterproductive. Finally we know who the real zombies are. Anyways, it’s theoretical Economics, till he gets the chance to implement it (if at all).

Utter idiots. The biggest exporting nations are also the biggest importing nations. The real question is what are you importing? You need some level of imports to activate critical sectors of the economy. You need some level of imports to bring down the price of goods and services. Buhari closed down the border and people are suffering like hell. He has opened it now, and yet there was no gain except endless suffering. Peter obi is not that stupid. 1 Like |

If we can export $300b worth of goods every year. Importing $100b worth of goods is nothing. The real problem is that we are not exporting much because there is no real production. 1 Like |

China imports more in dollar than the whole of Africa combined. Most of it are in grains, oil and gas,e.t.c. But they export far more too. 2 Likes |

thebosstrevor1: Low mentality. Because they're industrial clusters in Ogun and Lagos you conclude Nigeria is sufficient. Nigeria is bigger than you think. Power generation is insufficient to drive industrial revolution. Alluding to your argument that industries provide their independent power, have you factored the inflationary pressures on goods and services since it'll cost more to run private power generation? 1 Like |

If we can activate the economy to the point where we can export $60b worth of leather products alone in one year. I don't think importing $10b worth of rice and fishes to crash down the prices of food in the market is a problem. People are suffering. We need imports to bring down the price of food, but we need to export far far more. That is the sweet spot. 2 Likes |

freshvine: Stop typing rubbish There are lot of industrial areas all over Nigeria but lagos and ogun state happens to have the highest concentration of industries because of the state government policies fo attract fdi and closeness to market. What then are you talking about inflationary pressures because it cost more to run private power generation. Fyi, production is even more cheaper when you have your own power generating stations. Go ask dangote, wampco, honeywell and co how they have been able to make their product cheaper for the average joe on the street. 2 Likes |

Guys let's argue with tact and set politics aside, it's our tomorrow we are discussing here, There are items that are prohibited like ammunitions etc while there are items CBN excluded from official FX market as they expect we have comparative advantage to produce those items in Nigeria which should create jobs etc These restrictions doesn't mean the items are not imported, its just that you source your FX in the parallel market. These exclusion is pushing more people to the parallel market and causing wider gap in the FX market between official rate and parallel rate (note also we have revenue problem from theft of oil and reduction of remittance of FX to FG by NNPC). Also with the importer/exporter window (I&E) created by CBN to regulate exporters sale of FX, most exporters feel shortchanged and that they could get better if they sell in the parallel market, so most of them involve in racketeering for better value, this is further putting pressure on the Naira. So by removing restrictions on importers and exporters, we expect the forces of demand and supply to take effect and halt the free fall of Naira. However, questions we should ask PO is to show us his complete plan, how does he intends to increase our FX earnings to enable CBN defend the naira? How will he use tarriff to encourage local manufacturers? Let's ask the right questions 2 Likes |

thebosstrevor1: Bla bla nonsense. Tying beautiful nonsense. Have you considered the value chain economic indicators? That Dangote run on diesel power to produce flour, he need gas to run logistics, the distribution chain need gas to power storage, the bread maker need gas to generate energy and the bread seller equally needs electricity to keep running his business. Should all of this value chain be allowed to generate their own electricity will it not cause inflation on cost of bread? 1 Like |

mrvitalis:this is quite dumb and extremely irrational. You're talking of smuggling here, an illegal activity, doesn't your brain tell you smugglers will still smuggle same rice and sale at the Normal market price, more gain for the smugglers and hardship for the masses . Realist12:The question you should have asked is why are they smuggling ? The answer is it's practically impossible to import foreign rice into Nigeria ...but there is demand people would find a way to supply it ..it's human nature Nigeria loses revenue yet foreign rice floods the local market 5 Likes |
