Peter obi said he will remove forex and import restrictions. Seems like peter obi wants to destroy Nigeria's local economy. He wants to make us dependent on only import. How then are we going to get forex if we only import goods not produce anything. This man will kill Nigeria and then make it a dumping ground for imports, that also means high unemployment rate 21 Likes 7 Shares |

Kingozymandias: You should be crying, if peter obi wants to remove restrictions on imports. That means local manufacturers will automatically die off which means lot of people will be sacked. 13 Likes 5 Shares |

No country in the universe which does not import. The problem is when your rate of importation as a nation is way higher than your export. Peter Obi is spot on

Millimann: Go to ogun state and other industrial areas in Nigeria, you will see the manufacturing industries we have. Obi wants to totally kill them, not only that, he wants to also kill our agricultural system if he remove restrictions on import. We are in for trouble. Obi shouldn't be voted into power. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Manufacturers can't even import critical resources. This is why even goods manufactured in Nigeria continue to rise. OP, this is not your field. You know Nada 17 Likes 4 Shares |

onez: Who told you Nigerian importers cant import critical resources, they can, forex are always available for them from the central banks. Government need to protect local economy especially things we can produce here, it creates jobs directly and indirectly for people. If we allow much importation that also means agriculture will die., go to senegal and republic of benin,, the local tomotoes and chicken industry have been destroyed because of importation 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Mrfixitt: Buhari didn't close importation. We are not uk or US who have a large industrial base. We can not compete with china or the EU if they start to export all their goods into Nigeria. It will kill local businesses |

thebosstrevor1:I thought I was the only one to observe that from his statement. The vast majority of importers in Nigeria are Ibos like him who produce nothing locally but use Nigeria as a dumping ground for substandard Chinese goods to the detriment of our local economy. He's probably echoing the thoughts of his western neo-liberal masters who granted him audience in America yesterday. A vote for Peter Obi is a vote for economic enslavement. I remain DISOBIDIENT. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

thebosstrevor1:How many local production industries do we have now compared to Jonathan era? World is a global village any local production industry must import one or two raw materials outside the country. You guys should stop using primitive ways of economical control, that was then. Buhari use such primitive economical control and it failed completely, both local and foreign companies bankrupted and folded up, inflation on continual rise, naira continued depreciation on a rapid paste and even decline in local production. What is the gain? 11 Likes 1 Share |

thebosstrevor1:There are better ways to do it We have restrictions on foreign rice , are they not still flooding out markets ? Has the policy worked ? Nope Solution ?.....remove the restrictions allow imports but introduce tariffs , traffic that would make smuggling the goods not worth it Foreign rice is 40k now ......at cost around 15k in the international market so you Introduce a 150% tariffs on imported rice ....this means for each imported rice Nigeria makes 22k ...this would discourage smuggling Then you use the 22k to sponsor research development ,seed development and helping local farmers produce at cheaper rate 12 Likes 1 Share |

thebosstrevor1:When he said he will use contractionary policy to fight inflation, when he said he will turn Nigeria from consumption to production country, you didn't open a thread...Now, they have told you he will remove restrictions on import you started crying... How about removing all import restrictions and raising taxation of such imported commodities?? Although this will bring about an increment in prices of goods and services, the tax burden will be shifted to the consumers leading to fall in demand... Now, This will enable citizens to patronize our domestic companies products with lower prices which in turn encourages both demand and imports amongs the rich and the poor leading to more foreign investors and more available money for the government... 2 Likes 1 Share |

Slynation: You can not remove restrictions on import and then again turn the country into a production country. Even if you put high tax on import, it will just encourage smuggling. 4 Likes |

thebosstrevor1:says who?? A country can never produce everything it needs, more reason there is what we call comparative advantages... Smuggling is as a result of corruption, that alone is another aspect to deal with entirely, because you have to bribe someone to smuggle products through the land borders... 4 Likes |
