Letter Ordering VCs To Reopen Universities (30419 Views)
openmine(m): 4:46pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
JJuanMiguel: ![]() ![]() Its well! The increment was done and contained in the Nimi briggs commitee report where it recommended the 180% increase in the salaries of the university lecturers! The increment according to the committee report was to enable the salaries of lecturers to be in line with what is earned by university lecturers around the world! As for ASUU pursuing the ministers of finance and education, then i will have to see such link or news about such before i can believe! However i do know that if the FG is serious about revitalizing the universities, then they should abide by the recommendations of the two committees that they set up! There is still room for another committee to be set up by the FG as long as they will abide by the eventual report of that same committee! ![]() |

Na VC go teach them abi na non academic staff. This government is fokn useless

openmine:Lol, even ASUU themselves know that's not feasible. Lecturers in top universities around the world engage in useful research works and attract funds and grants from various organizations around the world for their universities. The universities in turn don't lack funds to compensate them accordingly. Your people here only do paper work for the sake of promotions, in their so called "research" a sentence will include citations from 10 different authors, they can't discover any new thing. They just victimize students, chase girls, come to class 3x in a semester and submit demands to the FG. The same ASUU shedding crocodile tears now invited welders to seal off the SUB at oau sometimes ago to silence the students and prevent them from fighting for their rights 1 Like |

All this COMMANDO STYLE WILL NOT WORK, FG SHOULD DO THE NEEDFUL....BLACK MAN WITH POWER

JJuanMiguel: Useful research work is either personally funded or the university does the funding! The former is not possible due to the salaries that even a professor earns! However, this is not the bone of contention! There is always an opportunity to renegotiate with another committee! JJuanMiguel: Firstly,i am not a lecturer or part of ASUU....I am only trying to tackle the issues from an objective point of view! Secondly,As much as i agree with your last statement about some lecturers in our universities, you will agree with me that not all lecturers are into what you are trying to accuse all of them! Lets not lose sight of the main issue at hand which is the revitalization of our universities and review of the upward salary structure of lecturers! The other issues can be resolved by setting up another committee by the FG to investigate what you are alleging! JJuanMiguel:This is off topic! The question is did the FG renege in their negotiation and agreement with ASUU through the committee that they set up? Did FG throw out the 2 reports by committees that they themselves setup to resolve the issue with the union? Once we are done with resolving the questions at hand,we can talk about how to investigate the excesses of the university lecturers in nigeria! 1 Like |

JJuanMiguel: 5:29pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
openmine: There's a report that ASUU pursued reps from ministries of finance and education during the negotiation and fixed their salary at 180% Right now, the only problem is the no work no pay stance of the FG, ASUU didn't anticipate that. Forget about all these gimmicks of revitalization funds and fighting for students. The lecturers also want to live large and are demanding for huge salaries which is not a bad thing, but they should stop shutting down schools every year and delaying people's destiny to try and achieve that. Everywhere you go now, it's only about how they can't teach on empty stomach and how hungry they are. The appeal court will give same verdict as the NIC, return to work and continue negotiations. The neutrals and the law are on the students' side |

Kyase:In that case, if government will not pay ASUU the 2021/2022 session should be cancelled and all tests and exams conducted should be nullified, then the strike action should continue for as long as FG declines until a responsible president that is ready to do the needful comes to power. |

Kyase:In that case again, Covenant University will be cheaper than the cheapest privatized higher institution, then we will see how many people can afford education and we will see who actually mumu wether na government and the senseless people ing and defending this useless Buhari istration or ASUU which is trying to fight for quality educational system. |

kernniejay: Which ASUU fighting for quality education How many of us can pay for quality education in this country? Let’s be realistic, no be fight |
kernniejay(m): 7:48pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
Kyase:Go and check the demands of ASUU very well, they are not just asking for increment or disuse of IPPIS, they are asking for revitalization of varsities among other developmental demands. And if there is no quality education in this country, how come University of Ibadan made the list of 1000 best universities around the world, being the first time Nigeria made the list? |
Kyase(m): 8:06pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
kernniejay: There’s one thing I want you to know The government can’t be subsidizing the educational sector and still be doing all these things at the Same time Nigerians pays the cheapest school fees in the entire world apart from Libya during Gaddafi If we want quality education, world class education like them oxfords and Cambridge We need to accept to pay more Second thing You talked about people ing this government and ASUU, did ASUU strike starts with them? |
Mccullum: 8:26pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
Sorry for being in severe pains with the court order that has ASUU to return to class ![]() you this sophisticated M.O.R.O.N that's deriving joy in ASUU strike ![]() McLizbae: |
kernniejay(m): 8:28pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
Kyase:Subsidy? This is the same line the government gives us anytime they want to increase pump price, they tell us we have the cheapest petroleum price in the world and therefore, they must remove subsidy so that the price can be at par with the world level. However, they have removed subsidy more than 5 times under Buhari that claimed there was nothing like subsidy under Jonathan and still, they are not done yet. Back to the matter, government has not said they subsidized education in any manner apart from the fraudulent "one meal per day" scheme for imaginary primary schools. I dont know why you are helping this government to issue statement it never made. When did Buhari or any government (apart from Chief Obafemi Awolowo's free education policy in the Western region from late 70s to mid 80s) talk about subsidizing education? Again, of course ASUU strike did not start with them but if they cant lessen ASUU crisis, they shouldn't worsen it. They'd better leave us as we were, not worse off than we were before they came. |

Mccullum: Joy!? No joy here cause I am not smiling at all! But I can see you laughing.. So I believe you just described your entire clan there as bolded. NO one (save fatheads like you here), should derive joy from the ongoing ime between FG and ASUU, not even the degrading communities hosting the universities. But if anyone really want to be sensible, s/he will continue to play his/er little part to compel the FG to honor ASUU. Yes, this Buahri/FG has broken Nigeria in many unprecedented ways, but they can't succeed with ASUU. FG cannot force or cajole University lecturers to teach, it is smply impossible! |
openmine(m): 9:34pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
JJuanMiguel:If there is a report about such, please do well to bring or show it here! I don't rely on beer parlour gist! Once again and at the risk of sounding like a broken record,ASUU was not the one that proposed that that lecturers salaries be increased by 180%...This was contained in the recommendation made first by the jibril committee report in 2021 and then Nimi Briggs committee report in 2022.... that both committees were created and belonged to the FG not ASUU! JJuanMiguel:That is your opinion and you are entitled to them! However your opinion doesn't take away the fact that our universities are in a terrible state and in need of urgent rehabilitation! I have personally been to some of our universities and i must confess that its an eyesore! You may have your personal vendetta with some lecturers due to your past dealings and disappointments with them but it will be illogical to generalize! ASUU still have options before them....They are not the first to be issued such order...The resident doctors were given the same order and refused to obey which was finally resolved out of court! However, the union has decided to follow the law on the advice of their lawyers to appeal! They can appeal the ruling by seeking a 'status quo' order! JJuanMiguel:You seem not to understand the job that a teacher puts in educating a student! A teacher or lecturer should be living large because the directly and indirectly affect the economy of the nation! No one including you became something in life without the effect or a teacher or lecturer! A professor in england earns over 3k pounds a month and a professor in nigeria collects 450k but a councilor in a remote area in a state in Nigeria collects close to a million naira and you want the lecturers to give their best to the students? The shutting down of schools should have been avoided a long time ago if the FG had done their job properly by agreeing to a negotiation that they had made! JJuanMiguel:This is so insensitive from you! Do not allow your personal grudge with a lecturer cloud your sense of judgement! Which lecturer that has been owed for more than 4 months will have the strength to teach? JJuanMiguel: Let us wait for the appeal court before trying to preempt their judgement! Like i said before, they have options which are in their favour! JJuanMiguel:lol.....The students under NANS have told the union not to resume! Let the law be interpreted in a court of law not on nairaland! |
