Liz Truss was asked today at a hustings event what her favourite song is and she replied soundtrack theme song from the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger.
Can you guess, mates, who sang it? Dame Shirley Bassey!
Her father, Henry bassy was a Nigerian.
Nigerians are making giant strides everywhere we go.

Nigerians are making giant strides everywhere we go.
But her father didn’t sing the song ni?
He was arrested and deported for raping a child. So I wouldn’t shout his name too loud.

My allusion is to one of the most popular British vocalists of her generation, Dame Shirley Veronica Bassey not her father. She also had other James Bond films soundtrack on her list, Moonraker and Diamonds are forever.
By the way, the isolated case of her father's misbehaviour does not invalidate that most Nigerians in UK or abroad are diligent and indefatigable.

hmmn, with the lack of dates for testing...what can one do. Provincial license only?
Provisional license with its many conditions will limit you, you can drive anywhere without another experienced driver in the car...
Get an instructor and they may be able to help. Once I felt ready to test, I told mine and he got me a date in about 10 days for 210pounds including the test fee.
Unfortunately there seems to be a racket going on in the background, ppl are cancelling and selling their test dates..etc. The instructors have groups where they communicate and (I suspect dvla staff as well) sell closer dates to willing buyers.
I suspect dvla staff are involved because when I booked my test initially after some weeks, I got a mail saying my date had been changed to an even later date because my driving instructor won't be available for the earlier date I got! I never included any instructor details in my submission. So that makes me believe they are involved and selling both willing and unwilling candidates' dates.

It depends on the occupation, you can always do NARIC in place of IELTS, that will require your trasbcript, Letter of English profeciency from your school and Certificate.
I hope I've said the right thing and not rubbish

Hi everyone. Thank you for sharing valuable experiences so far.
I'm due to arrive the UK next month, however I saw a nice apartment on Openrent that I'm interested in. Is there anyway I can lock that apartment even before I arrive?
Tips would be appreciated

To be honest with you there's not much you can do to hold it, not like you want to pay the month's rent without actually staying? Except move in date is stated as a months time. Been on the accommodation drama myself, E no easy o.....
It's advisable you visit the property yourself to view what you're getting yourself into, pictures are deceptive(if you can get someone to do that on your behalf, it's fine.....but no landlord or agency will rent out any property without any background or credit check)
In another angle a holding deposit can lock it, provided the move in date is around the time you will enter (Your prove of income is certain, an Employment Reference or Guarantor can be provided )
Just be sure it's refundable if everything scatter .
I might be wrong, to the best of my knowledge that's all I know

===================
I have a lot to share but I will start with pricing.
Houses are usually d as FIXED PRICE, OFFERS IN THE REGION OF and OFFERS ABOVE A CERTAIN PRICE.
Before you place a bid or even consider buying a property, the first thing you should look at and read carefully is the valuation report (called the Home report in Scotland). This report is prepared by a valuer ed with the Royal institute of Chartered Surveyors and it details independent checks carried out by the valuer on the property, the reinstatement value of the property and most importantly, the value of the property in the open market.
The value of the property as stated in the valuation report should be compared with the starting price d by the sellers and the price at which similar properties have sold within the same area for a particular period.
Please note that there isn't any bank that will lend you money (mortgage) that is higher than the value of the property stated on the valuation report. A lot of first time buyers make this mistake/false assumption and when they realise they can't fork out the difference, they pull put of the purchase and the sale falls through, leaving them with legal fees and disgusted sellers, etc.
For example, if a property is valued by the valuer as £300,000 and the seller asks for offers above £300,000 and he accepts a bid of £350,000, the bank will lend up to £300,000. This means the buyer would have to put down a deposit of 15% of £300,000 (most lenders are currently not accepting deposits below 15% because of the current economic uncertainty due to covid) and the £50,000 difference will come from the sellers purse plus additional legal fees. So in total, the buyer is putting down £95,000 as deposit.
Its very important not to get carried away with bidding wars and pay over the value of a property. My first purchase was d as fixed price and I was able to get £1000 knocked off as the property didn't come with a fridge/freezer and washing machine. Personally, I have never bought a property above the value stated on the valuation report. I take my time, do my research and get the one that fits my budget. grin
When bidding/buying a property, calculator is your best friend. grin you need to have a budget and stick to it. During bidding, start with £1000 above the guide price and instruct your lawyers to keep in regular touch with the seller's solicitors until you agree on an acceptable bid or you walk away.
My most recent purchase was d as asking for offers £10,000 below the value of the property. I started bidding by adding £1,000 each time and after some back and forth and assurances to them that missives will be completed within 5 weeks, they accepted a final sale price which was exactly the value as seen on the valuation report.
I will also suggest leaving an impression with the sellers during viewing. I have a friend who bidded for a property but the sellers accepted a lower bid from a young couple because they said my friend was buying the property for investment unlike the young couple that were just starting out with a baby on the way.
If you are not the first time buyer of the property, I will suggest you look at the previous sale price and how much the property has appreciated or depreciated in value throughout its history. You can do same for similar properties in the area and this will give you an idea on the potential future value of the property.
Set up property notification alerts on zoopla,, rightmove, espc, etc and arrange a viewing as soon as you see a property you like. The earlier you put in a bid before other buyers, the better. You do not have to wait until your lawyers put in an offer on your behalf. Let the selling solicitors know that you would like to put in an informal note of interest and your solicitors will be in touch.
You also have to consider legal fees, mortgage advisor fees and stamp duty fees.
Stamp duty fees are so annoying. What you pay depends on if the value of your property is above a certain threshold and whether or not its your first home/main home. There is currently stamp duty holiday which i believes end in March.
Finally, interior decor of a property is key. It can influence the value of a property and attract big spenders to purchase the property.
If you have other questions, tag me and I'll respond.
Thanks for rhe lovely information.

Well, in addition to what Lexusgs430 said, and I risk repeating some of his points, you don't have to do care job. There are other casual jobs like Warehouse, Factory, Call centre, Data Entry clerk, etc. As for Professional jobs, if you are good in Data Analysis and Digital Marketing, there are a lot of opportunities and many of them are Remote jobs or outside London too.
Get a car, don't get a car: your choice. I won't advise you rush into getting one but they're quite affordable so you can if you want to. It depends on where you live, availability of parking space in your accommodation and available public transportation.
Bicycle is a good option. You can get a used one for as little as £60 and a brand new one for as low as £200. You can even get an electric one for like £600. And you can take them on trains or even buses (smaller foldable ones) so with a bicycle and train ticket, you can travel to anywhere in the UK. No tax, no fuel, just sheer manpower.
The delivery jobs are a little scarce in smaller Towns now compared to Covid era.
Your question about sponsorship job, "ayam not understanding".
All in all, one step at a time, enter UK first, you will definitely figure the rest out, you even have soft landing with your wife's job. Some people came here on Student visa and a year later, they had paid their £15k school fees and are earning 6 figures income as a Couple. The Job market is that good now for Tech if you can prove you know your stuff.
hi, pls how can I apply for a visa sponsorship

If you don't watch it, don't give yourself headache, probably call them to retierate that or leave them to do their investigation.

Depends on the conditions the house owner gives you and if you're willing to adhere. If the available date to move in is immediately, landlord might give you condition of holding property for only a certain number of days before your rent will begin to read.
Landlord might also ask for up to 6 months rent pay in advance cause you're coming from abroad with no rent-ref or credit check to ascertain you have a good history.
However, the most important part is getting someone to help you view the property and assure you what you see online is exactly what you're getting so this is as important as payment.
You might want to consider paying for the property and your rent starts reading before you arrive Sha if it'll lock down the property for you as you don't have any assurance you'll get one as soon as you get it. Accommodation stress is an advanced level of stress on its own.

Ipswich will be a lot cheaper than North London. Plus having a port closeby and direct train access to London and the East Anglia means access to a variety of jobs too.
Hi Ticha, please do you live in Ipswich? Or by any chance, know any Nigerians living there that you can connect me with? I have some enquires to make.
