Was there a financial crisis in the empire? Where there uprisings and many claims to the throne? Was the empire fractioned and ruled by different factions with different allegiances and ideologies? İf three or two out of the four conditions I've mentioned are true, then one can comfortably come to the conclusion that the empire was in a frail state.

The question can be termed stupid because they're both witnessing the exact same thing (the cup) without anything like colorblindness affecting their perception. If a colorblind person asked that question, it wouldn't be stupid
