Small time developers or teams do a better job in keeping up with the ever evolving OS known as android, better than the large corps that dole out these phones every other day.

That's why a community like xda does a better job than said corps.

By the time custom rom Devs are able to stabilise A12L, google Will release A13. And the cycle continues

And FYI, a "simple update" cannot fix the issue.

You'll have to completely remove the motherboard and make some changes before you can remotely say you've fixed it. Even Xiaomi can't do it.. they'd rather replace your phone.
