You sound like a meticulous owner that would go out of your way to order OEM parts or top grade aftermarket parts for repairs. 90% of Nigerians (many oof whom rely on the fictional Kazeem mechanic) would be satisfied with replacing with low quality China made aftermarkets, or worse "tokunbo". All we know is to start the car engine. The other day a Range Rover drove past me with an obviously faulty fan belt. He was accelerating fast so the noise can quickly "go". In my head I was calculating his future bill when the engine fails when he can just replace the failed fan belt which is cheaper to fix

I was actually online as a guest but this thread made me so I could reply. Overall, the civic is a better car. I’ve driven both cars very extensively and in various conditions, and actively involved in the maintenance sef as I’ve got family with both cars. The only downside of the civic is the transmission system which actually is a better transmission as it performs better than the Corolla. Replacement cost of the civic’s transmission system is way less than that of the Corolla too. The automatic transmission of the civic is prone to failure when abused, the one I use to drive was abused terribly abused by the owner’s mechanic as the man was not properly advised but then, GOOD THING YOURS IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION so this isn’t a problem for you.

The Corolla isn’t without its own downsides too but most outstanding is the outrageous price tags on those terribly bland vehicles and the car straight is the most attractive car for thieves especially as it has a very weak security system so you’ll have to invest heavily on security and that still doesn’t guarantee you.

In my honest opinion, I’ll advise you to go for the CIVIC as it is the better option here.

Don't you think he knows that? Cost of toks now is pretty expensive that is why he optioned for a naija used of the both. Do you see these two cars? You can never go wrong with them, no matter what is wrong with them they can be fixed at a cheap rate and that is why the Naija used are so expensive.

I would say try out any of the cars first to get your first hand opinion.

Buy the car of your choice, use it for uber/bolt then you can know if the car you picked is good or not.

That being said, even you would go for Corolla

All my friends that used Honda complained about shaft problem then when it come to ruggedity for the Nigeria roads Toyota corolla has it,Toyota has a more second hand value than Honda,should incase u want to upgrade,buyers are readily available ,you wont visit the mechanic like you would with Honda

Please am currently trying to get a car as am planning to start Bolt or Uber as a side hustle, by the special grace of God, but that's not why i created this thread.

I just want to know which is reliable, durable, that can withstand pressure (on the engine) in short better overall between the two cars, personally I have read alot of reviews here from you guys on the both ride, and I am considering getting the Civic, but my friends keep telling me Corolla is the best worldwide but then I reply them that the Honda is cheaper and even more beautiful, but they're not trusting the cheap price, some even mock me jokingly that na who no get money de tok say beer no sweet (what is it with the average Nigerian and Toyota sef )

Truth be told, am a bit suspecting and having reservation's for the price of the Honda Civic

Frankly to be honest, am a novice when it comes to auto's

I just want a wider view on both and possibly the advantages one have over the other

Note the Honda is a manual transmission while the Corolla is auto

So I bring my case to the legends over here, what's your take?

If you are buying an automatic, stick to 2004 /2005, if na manual, you can buy any year. Most people think every Honda product pull leg and the worst part is people advising against the car haven't use the car before. I haven't change my fuel pump before so no cause for alarm. If your are buying manual transmission, ensure there is always oil in the gearbox, I changed mine because I drove it long without gearoil, which affected the synchro, making the 2nd gear to pop out to neutral, so I decided to change mine. I use mine for bolt too. Below is the pics.

My sincere advice for you is that don't buy Nigeria used Honda civic and if you must buy, ensure is not accidented, & is not over used. Buy direct Belgium if u have the money. Corolla is good even if is Nigeria used. I have use both of them.

Most hondas are abused by previous owners. Majority use all manner of useless engine oil and gear oil. Also, honda tend to have fuel pump and suspension problems. Speaking as a current honda owner

Fuel pump in Honda? 7yrs with mine, never changed the pump.

I can talk of Camry 2001 V6 engine that i drove for same journey October 17th, 2021 from Ondo Town to Portharcourt. I wanted to inquired its fuel consumption at Sapele road in Benin Edo State when I top-up the fuel back with 17ltrs to fill-up on Camry 2001 V6 engine.

35k, you can still buy the automatic, don't abuse the transmission, make sure you service with the right fluid.

Nobi say Kazeem never chop me o! My very first car was a hand-me-down Audi 80 B3 manual tyranny. Wetin I see for that car hand...and wetin the car see for my hand na only the two of us go fit tok. So I had to sharply start learning how cars work and how to "deal" with them
