Hello all. Should I remove the thermostat and single cell radiator from my 2007 Honda pilot. Take note it isn't overheating

Don't do any yet. Hope it's coolant in your radiator and not water. Keep driving it but always monitor the temperature gauge well for any unusual changes.

OK thanks. Yes it is coolant in it.

Before an engine can be said to be ‘high mileage’ it should have been used to power a vehicle further than at least 100,000 miles according to the vehicle manufacturers and it should be above 75,000 miles according to engine oil manufacturers (for warranty purposes) while individuals who utilize these engines usually see their vehicles as being of a higher mileage once they are in the 150,000 - 200,000 miles range because a properly maintained engine (from a manufacturer like Honda) usually sures the 500,000 miles range.

The 2007 Honda Accord uses either a K24A engine or a J30 engine. Different variations of these engines were used in Honda Accord models from the years 2003 - 2012. These engines all look alike with similar tops and bottoms but their main differences were in compression numbers and their throttle actuation modes (electrical or drive by wire)

In reality one can use the engines interchangeably between the Accord models but the only differences are if your vehicles ecu uses the cable or electronic throttle mode. So the engine top and bottom should work but you may need to switch the throttle body and/or intake manifold for it to be a perfect match.

An engine made in 2010 should have a lesser mileage than that made in 2003 all things being equal. That is why it is good to have a vin check on any tokumbo engine you wish to buy to determine the mileage, year and model of manufacture of that particular engine before buying it.

I will advise you to use a normal synthetic engine oil of the required weight for a tokumbo engine and if there are leaks handle it but if it’s burning then switch to the high mileage type before ever considering a higher weight of oil as a solution.

Thank you. Your response is highly appreciated.

If I may ask, were all engines of Honda Accord 2007 produced in 2007?

According to you, one can determine the milage of a used engine?

Are you sure?

Just know that if you’re buying a 2004 Honda Accord the chassis would have been manufactured that same year, I believe the interior components too and anything specific to that particular model year of that car’s trim level (E.g. gearbox, and suspension components)

As for the engine I can’t say. I believe the management of these companies have a specific amount of engines they want to produce for a season and then start building them. They will then store or send these built units to other factories for assembly. This is because two or three different models of their vehicles can share the same engine. They might build the engine last year and then it will be dropped into a vehicles engine bay this year but the design and specifications of that particular engine remains the one used in 2007.

A practical example is my situation. I’ve changed engine before. I drive a 4cyl Honda Accord but it’s engine is from a 4cyl Honda odyssey and it works fine.

Yes oh. Especially if it was pulled out from a vehicle that has a carfax history. You’d take the engine number and search out more details of the vehicle it came out from like vehicles model, year and the history of maintenance on the vehicle along with the mileage these procedures were performed right until they pulled out the engine either because it had an accident or something.

So that’s why checking it out before buying is good. You’d be able to avoid buying a bad one if you could and buy the specific type for your vehicle. Also if a car had a head on collision you’d know if it bust through the chassis and affected the engine.

Park Neutral safety switch malfunction probably.

A scan will reveal culprit.

You don't have to do everything a mechanic tells you, especially the not too educated ones.
That's why you have forums like this

Hi Honda gurus,

I've been thinking of getting a car for a while now. I initially wanted to get the Toyota Avalon 07/08 but Nigeria has shown my finances pepper.

I'm only able to comfortably afford a Honda 08/10 now. The issue is the road leading to my house is bad and flooded badly if rain falls. I want to know if the Honda can withstand the bad road or I should just look for another Toyota to get.

Thanks in anticipation
