The lawyer will never represent you for free o. He will bill you to represent you and this is outside of the money he takes from your rent. Trust me on this.

In my opinion, you are better off separating the two responsibilities. Have a trusted caretaker collect your rent, manage your property and communicate with the tenants if you choose not to do it yourself. Only hire a lawyer when legal services are needed.

But at the end of the day, man know thyself and do whatever rocks your boat grin

Generalizing here. Some tenants have stayed in properties for over 10 years with no wahala.

We Nigerians sha and all our rules. Man wey him wife no dey work go hustle to find house wey landlord go accept his wife to stay at home (and gossip with fellow housewife tenants).Then he must be ready to move and go through the process again after 5 years. Naija common man have suffered sad

It is not true. Where iam staying, it is the new tenants that are giving the landlord and lawyer headache. Anytime, you see the lawyer very early in the morning, just know that he came for one of the new tenants. When the place was being managed by a caretaker, things were smooth as the experienced caretaker does a thorough screening of the prospective tenant to fit into the existing tenants. The landlord now handed it over to a lawyer and we have been seeing all sorts of characters. Once they pay the first rent which is usually high subsequent payments become war.

Ordinarily, why should somebody move accommodation when he is comfortable where he is?.

With this mindset of 5 years, it means i cannot be their tenant because i do not like changing accommodation unnecessarily.

They don't know me. There was a day, I stopped over I was not allowed to come in. I had to phone the lawyer who told them they should open the gate for me.

He needs my approval, your tenancy is renewed annually. You have the option to renew the tenancy or not, provided you have given enough notice to the other party.


People leave jobs after few months, I see nothing bad if you have policy of maximum of 5 years for your tenants.

Used to have a boss that told us, that he doesn't want us to work for him for more than 7 years.

If you work for him for more than 7 years, you will be sacked or asked to resign.

What is the relationship between they don't know me and someone employed to ensure compliance? Or ensuring 95% compliance is now termed wickedness


Tenancy agreement is annual, the landlord has the right to renew the tenancy if he pleases. That is why his lawyer will always write you 3 months or 6 months before the end of the tenancy that you have been a good tenant and will be interested to renew your tenancy. Which the tenant has the right to accept or reject.

No sane employer will get rid of their best employees for no reason. Good staff are rare to find and are an employer’s biggest asset.

Rents are paid weekly or monthly. Weekly tenants have few days notice or with immediate effect, monthly tenants have 2 weeks notice. Annual tenants have 6 months notice

Thank God for the man, he made all his workers to be money smart. Nobody is indispensable.

Some of his former workers are contractors, part time workers and consultants to him. And doing better by reg after 5 years

It’s really not making sense to me at all. I have a business that I want to do well. And I need loyal, trustworthy and experienced/well trained staff to do well. Yet after 5 years, I get rid of all my workers and then go through the stress of rehiring and training

The CEO of a courier company, have a maximum of two as CEO. Each term is 3 years.

After that the CEO must resign and will be a non executive director for another 6 years. They have been doing this for the past 15 years, but it appears the current CEO does not want that

Haba. CEO level matter especially for publicly listed companies is different na. This one is more about corporate governance. You can’t compare that to getting rid of your junior staff for no reason. This is not done in normal organizations.

Exactly, and another reason some employees are asked to work within a certain period of time is because of secret informations the company might be hiding.. Some Engineers/Scientists working in hydro power firms or nuclear plants or sensitive biological research centres are used to this kind of contracts, they are not allowed to work beyond some certain period of time and workers are often tranferred from one unit to another, just to confuse them and ensure they don't know too many secrets about their operations.

Hello!!! It's a business not a charity organization. If they pay promptly why would they ask them to leave, you owe, you get kicked, in addition cut your caot according to your size. You don't have money for a 3-bedroom or 2- bedroom you are renting, then paying rent becomes a big deal

An Igbo trader, get 2 years rents from his tenants. That is what he has in his tenancy agreement.

You are expected to pay by the 18th month to enjoy 10% discount, payments made on the due date ie expiration of the rent will attract normal rent

Haba the sky is so large. You can't have it all, he made them realise when they ed him and gave them the necessary encouragement. Some of the former workers made use of his huge library for their research.

Working for some people is not a master/slave relationship, the more the merrier.

Instead of having a billionaire in a family, it is better to have 10 people with a networth of over N100 million
