The Peoples Democratic Party has cautioned the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, and those of the National Assembly from the state against defecting to the All Progressives Congress.

The PUNCH reported that Matawalle will dump the PDP for the APC tomorrow.

Reacting, the PDP stated that Matawalle defecting to the APC amounts to a decision to vacate office.

According to the party, “No law allows him to cross over to any other party with the governorship mandate statutorily given to the PDP through the ballot box.”

This was disclosed in a statement titled, ‘Zamfara: PDP Cautions Matawalle, NASS, SHoA Against Defection,’ signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.

It read, “The PDP is watching developments in Zamfara State as they concern reports of plans by the state governor, Bello Matawalle, to cross over to the APC.

“The PDP categorically cautions Matawalle to know that his plans amount to a decision to vacate office as no law allows him to cross over to any other party with the governorship mandate statutorily given to the PDP through the ballot box, as already established by the provision of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the standing judgment of the Supreme Court.

I really wish there will be a law that prohibit defections because, whether defecting to APC or PDP, the result is the same: A corrupt corporate government.

A party, or any institution that is in power or in opposition, does all things to get only for its own goal and interests, no matter in a legal way or through illegal resources, like forces, print and electronic media, and negative propaganda among the people , spending the millions of money for this. When political office holders where decamping from their parties to the PDP during the era of PDP in power at the national level they were most welcome by PDP and now they are reaping the reward of accepting elected officials into their party. They should stop crying or complaining or both and allow APC to enjoy their turn because when they are out of power they will also suffer the same thing..

As if PDP won’t gladly welcome the Governor with another party’ mandate into their fold.

If truly the vote is for the party and not candidates, it's really immoral for someone who finds the party uninteresting to continue to enjoy the mandate given the party.

APC after winning zamfara, had its votes cancelled
by the supreme court. Rather than use violence they used peaceful overtures to convince matawelle to them. As much as there are many things to criticize APC for, this singular act puts them aside from the demonic wickedness of PDP.
