For me it depends on whether the step kid father is dead or otherwise

If the father is dead, I'll gladly take full responsibility and love him like my son but if the father is alive and decide to be irresponsible forget it I'm not loving child of a deadbeat like mine I can't take care of a child that the father and his family will show up one day claiming they want their son
