Don't worry it is not a problem, I did the same on my ds160 I was suppose to fill the name of the school because I have funding but I fill myself and it did not affect the visa decision in anyway

My I-20 says my sponsor is family funds
My family is actually paying my tuition etc

But when filling the DS-160, I saw a question that said

Person/Entity paying for your trip

I selected Myself as the one paying

I thought they meant flight and minor trip expenses

Someone is telling me now that I have made a grave mistake and it can lead to denial. That I should have put in my DS-160 that my family is paying for my trip.

PS: I have already submitted the DS-160 form and I can’t edit it again

Before he said sorry you do not qualify for the visa. He even emphasized that I reed the green slip

2 problems here:

1. Your I-20 is the official document detailing your cost of education. If the VO thinks that you don't have full funding clearly stated on the I-20, then you do not have full funding. You should have reviewed this in more detail before your interview.

2. In your first interview, you said your company was sponsoring you for study leave as a reward. In the second interview, you reverted to your uncle. If indeed your company was sponsoring you the first time, it is extremely unlikely that they would withdraw the offer just because you failed the first interview. The VO now assumes that you were lying the first time.

Yea I have deficit of about 17 thousand dollars but I got a full tuition waiver the only thing I notice was that there was a difference between the estimated fee and tuition waiver by some 200 dollars of which I wrote to the school and they told me the estimated fee was just an estimated because the tuition fee could increase or decrease

My problem is the 2nd interview I want not given any opportunity to explain and this one they are saying home ties now I was thinking maybe I use a sponsor that had the same surname with me to help prove home ties


But any advise you give me will be appreciated abeg...............

Do this and you will be denied a 3rd time. How can you have 3 separate sponsors?

It now seems like getting full undergraduate funding from US universities is a real struggle

Received a full funding from none

The schools aren't broke, full funding for undergraduate degrees are hard to come by, even for US citizens. Most of the full funding opportunities are in research PhDs. To get full funding at the Bachelors level, you need to have a stellar application... at minimum, in the 1% of applicants.

A 1360 SAT is unlikely to get you full funding where there are people coming with perfect scores.

The name of my course is Computer systems networking and telecommunications.

And here's how I intend on answering the question:

I've always wanted to know the relationship between computer system networks and how they function. So I decided to turn my ideas and interests into a career. And I made my personal research where I studied about computer systems networking. I want to study this course in order to acquire more knowledge, develop my skills and get a job with my degree once I return back to Nigeria.

Just my opinion tho.

If the V.O was to come in just at the end of that highlighted sentence, there'd be two things running through the V.O's mind,

1. This applicant is curious and might do him good in college or
2. Why will he spend millions of naira just to find the relationship between systems and network, when Google is there to help out or maybe online classes.

I'd advise you start with something short and convincing, that will also help you should the VO come in between.
