My Jatau Moses Dogara The Kaduna State Honourable Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Mrs. Patience Fakai, truly embodies the essence of her name. Calm yet diligent in her duties, she is dedicated to ing the istration in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. Recognizing that her ministry is responsible for developing business strategies to encourage the growth of enterprises and in turn generate revenue for the state, early in the year she initiated enlightenment programmes for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). She emphasises the importance of registration, enabling these enterprises to benefit from grants that their businesses. Moreover, her ministry is responsible for the construction of three skill acquisition centres in the Zangon Kataf, Igabi, and Soba local governments, located in the three senatorial zones. The construction has reportedly reached about 75 percent completion and is closely monitored by the commissioner to ensure it meets both the deadline and quality standards. Mrs. Fakai is also diligently working to develop the state's vast tourism potential, which has been neglected over the years. She is determined and focused on boosting the sector by exploring historical sites such as Kagoro Hills, Nok Museum, and the Queen Amina Historical Site. Because of this, the ministry is developing a comprehensive tourism policy for the state. This policy aims to provide a robust framework that will build investor and tourist confidence in exploring the state's unique historical, cultural, and archaeological sites for both knowledge and entertainment. Mrs. Fakai is a team player. She lends her to others for the overall success of the government, which explains her excellent working relationships with other commissioners and government officials. She is an exceptional public officer whose performance and dedication speak hugely for her at all times. If she were to be loud like others who play at the gallery, town criers would be announcing her courtliness every day. The Honourable Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Mrs. Patience Fakai, is a role model and goal-getter. She is a valuable asset in Uba Sani's government. By Abubakar DanAsabe The governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has etched his name in the hearts of the majority of people in the southern senatorial zone. He is seen across party lines as a fair and just leader ionate about the livelihoods of the electorate. Since he took the mantle of leadership last year, the governor has not hidden his desire to bridge the gap in infrastructure development, something the zone was denied by the last istration. It's equally noteworthy that, unlike the Nasir El-Rufai government, the current regime has opened the floodgate for inclusiveness, accommodating all sheds of opinions, and reaching out to as many stakeholders as possible thereby winning followers in a way not easy to believe. Leaders in the zone now trust the governor and have confidence in his capacity to deliver dividends of democracy. But are the efforts of the governor complimented by the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the zone? What are the elected and appointed party men and women doing to sustain the landmark penetration of the zone by the governor through his disposition to the people? The zone has a deputy governor, an accomplished medical doctor, Her Excellency Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, a deputy speaker, a state party chairman, a political adviser to the governor, and a host of other portfolios. Indeed, all the offices listed above are powerful positions that could be deployed to change the fortune of the party if adequately presented as a bride to the electorate who are eagerly waiting to be enticed. But since the assumption of the current government, has there been a holistic stakeholders' meeting to listen to views about the last election? Or plot strategies for the local government election? Or plan how to woe converts and publicly receive them into the party? The kind of in-roads the governor is making needs to be ed by a robust strategy by leaders in the zone. The deputy governor who is the highest political officeholder should rise to the occasion and assume her responsibility of being the leader of the party in the zone. This is an urgent call because as it seems there is no one in charge of the APC in the southern senatorial zone. Everybody is going about their activities separately. One of the greatest setbacks militating against the rapid progress of the party is the allegation of intra-party rivalry between its leaders. The existence of factions in the zone is a great impediment. The deputy governor controls a faction, the political adviser has his faction, Durunguwa has a faction, and the party chairman is also controlling a faction, including Prof. Ben Gugong, Jerry Adams, and so on. These factions are capable of weakening the party. While there have been calls for meetings in the recent past by a few stakeholders to unite these factions to further attract new to swell the ranks and expand the stronghold of the party, such calls have not received positive responses owing to a lack of leadership. In addition, individuals who have shown concern and demonstrated willingness and commitment to the expansion of the party and have expended personal resources, time, and energy are deliberately sidelined. Many now wonder if further sacrifice to the party is worth it! It's instructive to note that even while the APC is in control of local governments like Jema'a, Sanga, Kaura, Jaba, Kagarko, and Kachia there are no serious political engagements by the representatives to sensitise the electorate continuously about the party. Instead, it's the opposition PDP representatives in the state and national assemblies from Jema'a/Sanga, Kaura, and Zangon Kataf/Jaba that are engaging the electorate daily, empowering the people irrespective of party. Due to this political lackluster attitude many political foot soldiers who earlier indicated interest to decamp to the APC have developed cold feet. After all, what use is it to a party that has not demonstrated any commitment to your interest when others are bringing succour to you? It is high time the deputy governor takes her rightful place as the leader of the APC in the zone and galvanizes other political officeholders into action as a solid bloc to entrench the party. It's a great mistake on her part to encourage the formation of factions. She must desist from favouring a section against other sections because it disenfranchises others leading to murmuring. As it's said, a stitch in time saves nine. Abubakar DanAsabe is a concerned APC member and writes from Sanga local government |
