Ise! This is alien to me though. I would have traveled down to learn if I knew something like this was going to take place. Could you please create a thread to talk more about the second emboldened?

Frathermathy, never knew you were Urhobo cheesy
Yeah, the Iyerhi is an annual festival of the Ughelli people, though there are other ones but Iyerhi have grown to be the official Ughelli festival.

Ekene of Agbarha-Otor is another unique festival that is held once in every 15 years (heard the time has been reduced to 10yrs or so but not sure)

Sadly, I don't have enough knowledge to share about them since I've not physically experienced them before. I've only witnessed the Agbarha-Warri Odju Owhurhie festival which is commonly called "Agbassa Juju" and then some Masquerade festivals here and there especially in Otokutu, my maternal home.

Since Ughelli is my hometown, I promise to look for a description of the Ughelli festival, create a thread on it and notify you accordingly.
Thanks.

Opharhe, wve kobiruo. Do!

This is my culture, culture is everything! We should be called by our rightful names. Awanr'ihwo r'Urhobo!

I wish I there to document this. The problem is that government and the ministries of Arts and Culture won't pay attention to this because it is a minority festival.

Urhobo is great! Urhobo Wadooooooo! Okere Wadooooooo!

Eh! Oghene bruphiyo kewe v'emo r'Urhobo r'INairaland ejobi.

The govt., ministry of arts and culture must not pay special attention to it. There are many festivals in Urhoboland- From Iyerhi of Ughelli to Ekene of Agbarha-Otor(every 15 years) to Idju Owhurhie of Agbarha-Ame(Warri) to Edjenu of Okpara (every 30yrs or so), Ogba-Urhie of Ughievwen... The list is endless.

Let us do our thing and sell it to the world in the best way possible.

At least, I know Goge Africa has covered the Odju - Owhurhie festival of the Agbarha-Ame (Agbassa) people twice. You know what it means to get a cultural celebration covered by Goge Africa. Something or someone drew their attention.

I have also seen Mofe Damijo of Aladja In his capacity as commissioner for culture and tourism, I'm one of those occasions.

We are a majority as far as Delta state is concerned... Victim card should not be our thing at all.

Thanks fratermathy for inviting the rest. Let us celebrate our culture.

Emo r'Urhobo wadoo.

Cross-section of women, singers, dancers in the festival.
Note the wooden sticks they're holding... It's used in producing a clapping rhythmic sound spicing up the drumming.
Our culture is beautiful and much be preserved.

I read elsewhere that it was Uwherun women. Why are there conflicting stories on the women who blocked the road?

Meanwhile, this blogger should clean up his language.

Mr Buhari, call your kinsmen to order please before this degenerates into a WAR!
Ohorho is a community in Uwherun Kingdom of Urhoboland. So the news is in order. These are Uwherun women.

USA, you again ? Hillary Clinton won by popular votes, yet a small of electoral college voters controlled by the few elites decided that Trump is a better pawn in the game. Now you want majority to carry the vote ? When it did not apply in USA.
Don't make it look that way. The US has a very strong democracy
. The American Constitution upholds the electoral college as having the final say and they follow a laid-down procedure. Obama himself was elected by the electoral college so did Trump.

Adama Barrow has been declared winner already by the electoral body of Gambia just as US has the electoral college .

Whatever Nigeria, Ecowas or the US is saying about Gambia is based on Gambian law and by that, Jammeh will soon become expired President and Adama Barrow is President in waiting.

Don't confuse yourself and others please.

In a lawless state, it is illegal be law abiding.
I this. The, Southern tribes of Kaduna and indeed those of other Northern states especially must stand up and defend themselves. Even if a man would die, It should not be cheaply.

All Nigerians of goodwill should, as a moral responsibility these people in every way possible.

What a country.

special:
Ikwerre, kalabari, ogoni etc missing from the list
Ikwerre is classified as a sub-tribe of Igbo. Kalabari is Ijaw. But I think Ogoni is a separate entity.

Igbo and Ijaw(Izon) for Ikwerre and Kalabari are shown there.
