I just gained ission to study Medicine and Surgery in a Federal University in South West. Though they just started the Medicine programme in the school which implies they haven't gained full accreditation from MDCN but all efforts are ongoing to get this done. I am currently a 300 level student of Geophysics in one of the State Universities. I will be resuming 300l by September

I had been contemplating whether to switch over to MBBS or obtain the Geophysics degree first.

What is your take on this?

Defer your Medicine ission and complete your Geophysics since you're almost at the end of the program. Then when you're done, you pick up your Medicine back

It's always together, "Dentistry and Dental Surgery", then you'll graduate to be a "Dental Surgeon"

Just like people study "Medicine and Surgery " to become Medical Doctor (Physician)

The difference is that graduate of Dentistry and Dental surgery graduates to become a Dental surgeon which makes such person a specialist.

But graduate of Medicine and Surgery graduates to become the normal general physician.

280+ average will get you Medicine and surgery in UniPort if they use the JAMB and PUTME method of itting.

However, only UTME and WAEC results were used for this last set bkos of the wanted to adhere to covid19 protocol of avoiding events that will cause people to be gathered together

Your CAPS only probably change, but your name is not released yet in any of the ission list on UniPort portal, so you've to relax for the release of name before you can proceed

With all due respect sir, and total humility to your person, this method of screening is nothing but balderdash... Many potential good students are lively to be at disadvantage, the school should have conducted her own exam to access the students herself... After all, schools like UNN, and some other schools have fixed their Putme date for 18th of this month and much more, so why on Earth will UniPort not be able to follow track, COVID-19 my foot! School asked undergraduates to resume, they didn't think of COVID-19 when they asked them to resume, but to conduct an exam which they can even allow to span through 2 weeks to control crowd they're now giving silly excuse, it's quite unfortunate

I heard unn calender is fast ie 6yrs I will be through with mbbs that is if ASUU strike doesn't come into play..I wrote waec as at 2014...My school of choice now is either unn or uniport

I am a student of UniPort, I'll advice that if you do not have a strong O level result, don't choose UniPort, UniPort can not be predicted. Take for instance, UniPort will be itting based on screening method this year using Just UTME score and O level result, thereby making potential best students with normal average result to be at the loosing end. Meanwhile when I got itted in 2019, our ission were based on both UTME and POST UTME scores... and I believe you can't afford to take risk that the probability of you not being favoured is high at this stage.

On the other hand, UNN is also a school I wouldn't wanna advice you to choose, considering your age, it won't be nice you enter medical school and start ing through academic trauma which could lead to eventual dropout thereby wasting more of one's time. Cos it's in the culture of UNN to it in excess and later send them packing by setting questions that will make students fail in a bid to meet up with MDCN quota of Medical Doctors to be produced. Therefore, I'd advice that you take your time, no need to rush, draw out your plans and look for schools where the odds are likely to favour you, Federal universities in particular, bkos of finance, also not necessarily one of these most sought after universities, but a Federal University with NUC and MDCN accreditation and maybe with an encouraging ission quota. Check ission thread of various schools here on nairaland and take your time to read the comments session, people's reactions and so on. That was what I also did when planning to choose school.
