This country is really in a mess. Where are all the so-called government agencies that monitors what happens in a case like this? Is NDIC still alive? If I was to be Jay Jay Okocha, I will just kidnap Saraki, and my ransom will be N1billion. Shekinah!.

Customers threaten to sue Nwobodo, Saraki
15/03/2010 13:57:00 Okey Onyenweaku

Aggrieved customers have threatened to sue promoters of Savannah Bank of Nigeria (SBN)and Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria (SGBN) for keeping them in the dark over their plans to revive the Financial Institutions in which their monies are trapped. The promoters of the banks are Senators Jim Nwobodo and Dr. Olusola Saraki, both chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

The banks' operating licenses were withdrawn and restored after they had won court cases against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Ever since their licenses were restored, customers have been neglected as no for a or meetings have been convened to brief them on the future of their banks. This has prompted the formation of a body called ' Association of Savannah Bank Customers and Association of Societe Generale Bank Customers' to forge a common front and pursue their interest.
They have, also spelt out their objectives as Canvassing for the interest of all customers, liaising with the promoters of the banks to ensure the full payment of all depositor funds, creating public awareness of the plight of the customers and pressurizing the promoters to explain clearly their plans for the future of the banks. It would be recalled that on February 15, 2002, Savannah Bank was clamped down by the regulatory bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), over some controversial allegations of misdemeanors and revoked its operating license consequently revoked. Similarly, SGBN's operating license was withdrawn on in 2005.
Following protracted court cases, the banks operational licenses were restored and the banks authorized to recapitalize to N25billion minimum capital base within a specified time.
Business Hallmark, also recalls that while Savannah Bank still has four months to recapitalize, SGBN's time frame elapsed since 2007. Analysts fear that the banks may find it difficult to bounce back given the harsh economic environment that is further heightened by the on-going sweeping banking sector sanitization of the apex bank. However, the spokesman of CBN, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, said that recapitalization period for SGBN was extended while that of SBN had not yet elapsed.
He further concluded that apex bank was aware that the banks are trying to source funds and return to business. Efforts to reach the banks' promoters proved abortive as some of them promised to provide information later in the week.

wirinet:

The problem with most Nigerians is that we only see things from our own perspectives and actions that either favour us or not directly affecting us.

One thing we should learn is that societies are built around people and not necessarily structures. Government should be about people and that is why democracy is defined as government of the people for the people by the people. The Lagos state government behaves as if they would not need the peoples vote to retain power in 2011.

Now i am not necessarily against demotions of slums and illegal structures per se, what i am against is carrying out such actions without making alternatives available to cushion the effect of such activities on people. People are still suffering from a similar demolition of Marako some twenty years after. This government had carried out similar demolitions all over lagos and rendered so many people Jobless, especially in the worsening economic climate people are facing today. When the government decides to embark on some palliatives by building shops, the government itself would price the shops beyond the people that were displaced in the first place. Yaba market is a typical example.

I am not making a case for illegal shops and structures, what i am making a case for is some kind of social responsibility from our governments.

Leaders like Awolowo and Jakande built houses, shops and schools for the poor in the society, even though they were poor construction, they were very useful to so many poor people in the society. Our present Governor believes in demolishing facilities for the poor like ramshackle schools and shops without providing alternatives.

To this governor, the poor should simply leave Lagos so he can embark on his Mega city project for the super rich.

Let Fashola worshippers catch you. You go know scores!.

This is not the popular Mile 12 Market where wholesale foodstuffs are sold. This one is to the right side of the overhead bridge and it is notorious for the unwholesome attitudes of social miscreants that abound in the place especially in the night.

Thanks for the correction.

Hardtalk:

Meanwhile, I heard that Arik Air has suspended her operations to that airport, and it is Dana Air that now services that route. What is the problem between both parties (Arik Air and Akwa Ibom state government).

I learnt there was this agreement the airline had with the state government; that the government will pick the bill for the remaining seats not paid for by engers. The state government later reneged in the agreement based on the fact that, the airline on very many occasion, had full house (all seats paid for by engers). The airline did not find it funny. That lead to suspension of their services to that route.

Currently, Dana air now ply that route. I want to believe, there is more to this agreement. If indeed, the state was supposed to pay for seats not paid for by engers, why is the airline still claiming money for seats paid for? If the state agreed to be giving the airline some grants to make up for seats not paid for, and the risk of flying their latest aircrafts to this dangerous airspace (for now), why are they now reneging? Is this not jealousy on the part of the state government? Is this not greed on the part of the carrier? So many questions begging for answers!.

There are serious issues here,

1. Patrotism fo things Nigeria

2. Beleive in our own and services

3. Loyality

Anybody who is holding public offices or intend to hold office must be made to take oath, that he or his immediate family would not use foreign hospital or educational institution

and two, will renounce or not acquire foreign citizenship.

and all the politicians in Nigeria does the above especially PDP criminals.

VOTE PDP OUT IN THE 2011 ELECTION AND VOTE ANY PARTY OF YOUR CHOICE. SEND MESSAGE TO POLITICIANS THAT POWER BELONG TO THE PEOPLE.

This is a very good suggestion, that should be enshrined in our constitution. If only powers that be, will permit. cry cry cry
