Broken Promises, Stolen Futures: The Call for a New Nigeria on Democracy Day
June 12: A Wake-Up Call to Real Democracy in Nigeria
By Faduri Oluwadare Joseph (FADOJOE)
Founder, Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria | Former Presidential Aspirant, Labour Party

Today, June 12, we commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day — a day not only to honor the memory of Chief MKO Abiola and the historic 1993 elections, widely acclaimed as the freest and fairest in our history — but also to confront the hard truth of where we stand as a nation.

We are called to celebrate democracy, yet we have not truly practiced it.

What is democracy if not a government by the people, for the people, and with the people?
Sadly, what we witness today in Nigeria is a far cry from that ideal. Instead of genuine democracy, we are burdened with corruption, injustice, insecurity, and a political system that fails the very people it claims to serve.

We cannot continue to call this democracy when:

Votes are bought with rice and naira, not earned through trust.

Electoral victories are decided by rigging, not the will of the people.

The same recycled elite hold us hostage while the masses suffer in silence.

Our judiciary shields the rich and powerful while oppressing the poor.

Law enforcement serves those in power, not the people.

Insecurity, kidnappings, and fear have become part of everyday life.

Whistleblowers are silenced while looters walk free.

This is not democracy. This is betrayal — of our heroes past, our youths present, and our children's future.

But amid the darkness, there is hope.

There is still time to rewrite the story of our nation — to build a New Nigeria defined by justice, equity, opportunity, and peace. But the journey begins with us.

How do we build real democracy?

1. Vote Wisely:
Your vote is your voice. Stop exchanging it for peanuts while they steal your tomorrow. Vote for people of character, competence, and comion — not for names, parties, or tribes.

2. Unite Beyond Religion and Tribe:
Until we begin to see ourselves as Nigerians first — not Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, or any other ethnic group — we will remain divided and weak. Our real enemies are not each other, but the corrupt leaders who exploit our divisions to maintain power.

3. Participate Actively:
Whether you are in Nigeria or abroad, your voice, your skills, your resources matter. We need all hands on deck. Change is not a solo effort. Not by me. Not by you. But by all of us — together.

Imagine This Nigeria:

Where a roadside hawker’s child has the same quality education as a senator’s child.

Where a police officer knows that breaking the law comes with consequences.

Where elections are contests of ideas, not intimidation.

Where governance is a sacred trust, not a personal business.

That Nigeria is possible. That Nigeria is necessary. That Nigeria is our duty.

So this Democracy Day, let’s do more than celebrate — let’s reflect, recommit, and rise.

Let us raise one voice and one purpose — to rescue Nigeria from failed leadership and broken promises, and usher in the era of true democracy.

It starts with you. It starts with me. It starts with all of us.

Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria.
Let’s make it real.

CSOs Pull Out of Tomorrow's NLC,TUC Nationwide Strike
... Say Strike will cause more economic hardship

As the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) embark on a nationwide strike over inability of the tripartite committee to agree on the new minimum wage and hike in electricity tariff commences tomorrow, a Coalition of Civil Society Organisations have decided to pulled out of the strike .

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations said the decision to pull out was taken out of considerations that the current economic situation and untold hardship facing Nigerians, as any nation strike now might degenerate into anarchy and make things worse.

The Nigeria Labour unions on Friday declared an indefinite nationwide strike, starting on Monday, June 3, 2024, due to the Federal Government’s refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage above N60,000.

But the CSOs in the press State statement gave reasons the labour unions should consider what the Federal uad offered on grounds that : " A few percentage in Nigeria are the only one that are working and accept what the federal has offered.

In the press statement tly signed by the National Coordinator and Secretary Dr. Mansir Jaafar Ndagi and Mr.Biodun Dele, the Coalition of CSOs cautioned the labour unions against should not jacking up minimum wage to the rate that the state governments will not be able to afford the pay.

"The fear arising from another rate of inflation should be matter for condition, should labour added money beyond the reasonable level.

" We are urging Federal government to increase the numbers of people that are giving conditional cash transfer, who are not in the working category'". it added .

Meanwhile ,the CSOs urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene Toda to avert the indefinite strike action scheduled to start on Monday.

It however, appealed to the labour unions to shelve strike action immediately and go back to negotiating table to continue to discuss with FG with a mind set that majority of Nigerians are not civil servants.

"Reverting to old National Anthem, is returning to colonialism complex"
-Fadojoe declares as Rescue Movement had first live broadcast on own online TV

The leader of Rescue Movement For New Nigeria aka Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative and a presidential aspirant under labour Party, Comrade Faduri Oluwadare Joseph also known as Fadojoe has condemned in strong term the idea of returning to the old national anthem, asserting that it's tantamount to reimposing on Nigerians the mindset of colonialism.

This he said in his first live broadcast on Thursday 30th May, 2024, from USA on RESCUE TV, the online television station of the group, Rescue Movement For New Nigeria, monitored online

Expressing his sadness over the misplaced priority by the lawmakers that despite the various serious problems bedeviling the country their concern is now the changing to the old national anthem.

"It is with a saddened heart I come to you today as Nigerian lawmakers out of a series of crises rocking our nation see no reason to handle them head-on, but to waste our country's resources to revert to our old national anthem, (Nigeria We Hail Thee) that was given to us in 1960 by a foreigner, a British expatriate Miss Lilian Williams. The anthem born out of Miss Lilian's experience of Nigeria as a colonized state in 1959 and it was in use in Nigeria until 1978 when some Nigerians came together in a national competition to change the course of history and to give Nigeria a national anthem that represents its people, old compatriot."

Revealing further for those of who may not know the history of our nation, that in 1978 during the regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo, a new national anthem (Arise O Compatriots) was adopted to replace (Nigeria We Hail Thee). This new national anthem truly "captures the Heritage of Nigerian, values, Nigerian culture and identity; to reflect Nigerian belief aspirations cultural heritage unity and above all pride and to show a nation that has gone through a lot to reflect our nation's past including battles for Independence, national Heroes Like Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Tafawa Balewa are but a few and many Nigerians who fought to see us free from white oppression and colonization. In addition to that, the lyrics were composed and written by five eminent and able Nigerians P. O. Aderibigbe, John Illechukwu, Doctor Sota, and Emem T Apa.

"After these were written these great Nigerians put together the best of what we have as, Arise O Compatriots. Further more, the music for this national anthem was composed by the best of Nigerian Police put it together on October 1st, 1978 when we celebrated Nigerian Independence. This national anthem was first sung in 1978 October 1st. And since 1978 fast forward to 2024 we have been using this national anthem because it truly reflects and represents the 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria. This is a national anthem that was put together by the West, the South, the North, and the East. This is a National Anthem that was put together by Nigerians for Nigerians. But our present lawmakers decided that it's better to return the country to the memory of our Colonial Masters so that in our mindset we can go back to colonialism. What an irony!"

The activist raised some questions that he insisted are begging for answer, "Does it mean that all that is important to our lawmakers is a national anthem that Colonial Master gave to us? My questions to the lawmakers are that, are you all promised money by Britain to return back to that national anthem? What makes that old national anthem more important than all the crisis rocking our nation? What makes national anthem given to us by foreigners better than the one created and composed by our own people?"

Lamenting that it is so shameful to our lawmakers, to our country and it's more shameful that Mr President even appended his signature to such a show of shame. "So it means that we are saying that everything made or done by Nigerians is not useful. We should continue to promote things that are done by foreigners. We cannot get a new Nigeria with this. We cannot make a country where all we do is to promote things abroad that are given to us by white people by foreigners and not things that are done by our own people at home. I appeal and I call on Mr President to return and to send that national anthem back to lawmakers to revert back to our national anthem, Arise O Compatriots, because that is a national anthem that represents people, that reflects our culture and who we are as a people. That is the national anthem that we want to see us sing. That is the national anthem that comes from Nigeria composed by Nigerians made by Nigerians and the Nigerians will continue to sing it all around the world

"But as patriotic Nigerians we are confident that someday we're going to fix our country. Someday we're going to have a new Nigeria where we have lawmakers and people in government who will think and prioritize what is important and not what is unimportant in our nation. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May God bless Rescue Movement For New Nigeria. May God bless you and may God bless me. Thank you," he concluded.

THE GREAT SOKOTO SWINDLE: TAMBUWAL’S N16BN FG FUNDS FIASCO

*By Musa Achida*

The people of Sokoto State have been left reeling in shock and disbelief following the revelation that the immediate past istration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal left behind a staggering N14 billion in unpaid gratuity and pension for retirees, despite collecting N16 billion from the Federal Government to offset the dues.

This bombshell, dropped by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, has exposed the false claims made by Tambuwal before the Senate that he had defrayed all liabilities linked to civil servants’ entitlements in the state, including gratuity and pension dues.

The APC alleged that Tambuwal’s istration collected the N16 billion from the Federal Government but failed to channel the resources as directed, leaving behind a trail of financial recklessness and impunity.

This scandalous revelation has sparked outrage and anger among the people of Sokoto, who feel betrayed by Tambuwal’s istration. The former governor’s actions not only caused financial hardship for the retirees but also brought shame and disgrace to the state.

The people of Sokoto demand answers and justice. They want to know how Tambuwal’s istration managed to squander such a huge amount of money meant for the welfare of retirees. They want to know why Tambuwal made false claims before the Senate, and they want those responsible for this financial fiasco to be held able.

The Sokoto State government must take immediate action to investigate this matter and ensure that those responsible are brought to book. The retirees who have been shortchanged by Tambuwal’s istration must be paid their entitlements in full, and measures must be put in place to prevent such financial recklessness in the future.

The people of Sokoto will not forget this betrayal anytime soon, and they will be watching closely to see how the state government handles this matter. Tambuwal’s legacy is now tainted with corruption and financial mismanagement, and it is up to the current istration to restore the trust and confidence of the people by meting out the appropriate sanctions.

*Sokoto APC Blasts Tambuwal over N14bn Unpaid Gratuity, Pension Debt*

The Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lambasted the immediate past istration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for leaving behind a whopping N14 billion unpaid gratuity and pension debt for retirees in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Sokoto, the state APC Chairman, Hon. Isah Sadiq Achida, alleged that the former governor had, despite collecting N16 billion Federal Government funds meant to offset the dues, failed to channel the resources as directed.

Achida described the development as one of the "startling monumental failures" that characterized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government of Tambuwal, which left a "dismal record of performance in all spheres of socio-economic development" in the state.

The APC chairman claimed that the past istration had left key institutions and organizations in total darkness, filthy metropolis, and retarded education activities due to non-payment of fees, resulting in denial of access to examination results, among other critical aspects and requirements of students' studies.

Achida, however, commended the current istration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for its efforts in repositioning the state economically, istratively, structurally, and socially, improving the welfare of its people through viable intervention programs.

He disclosed that Governor Sokoto had approved the payment of gratuity arrears of N4 billion to retirees between now and December on a first-come, first-served basis.

The APC chairman called on the people of Sokoto State to the current istration in its efforts to reposition the state and improve their welfare.

ONE YEAR OF PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, HOW FAR NIGERIA?
-FADOJOE

Fellow Nigerians, it is pertinent we ask ourselves how far our beloved country has gone, one year into the istration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT).

One year ago Tinubu was sworn in as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he missed it in some ways from the beginning of his istration.

The first mistake was the announcement of subsidy removal without plan on ground to cushion the effects.

The second misstep was the unification of naira without prior plan, which up till today our currency has never find it's foot in the world currency market.

Mr President announced students loan which up till now we are not sure it has been implemented.
The Senate went on rampage in financial miss management; acquiring for each of them N150 million worth of exotic car.
So many padding in the budget.

Avoidable wasteful expenditure obvious in taking large number of people running to hundred, abroad for meetings that only ten or twenty people could have attended.

Insecurity ravaging the country. So much kidnapping from the north to the south to the east to the west of Nigeria.

767 companies have left the shores of Nigeria because of bad economic policies, insecurity and epileptic power supply.

No longer hope of a bright future for Nigerian children.

Many households are sending their children abroad: to UK to USA to study, but not in Nigeria.

Employment for the youths is a major challenge and those who want to create job cannot find favourable environment for businesses to thrive.

One year after President Tinubu took over the mantle of leadership, where are we (as a nation)?

Many youths are fleeing the country the "Japa" syndrome, just because of the hardship in our dear country.

Our road in the west, north, south and east of this country are still as bad as anything and are more of death trap. Little will one wonder that there are so many accidents with many people dying almost on daily basis.

Instead of the istration to look into the road project, it's white elephant project of Lagos/Calabar Coastal highway they are talking about. Is Lagos/Calabar Coastal Highway, a good project? Yes, it's a good project. But is it what we need at this time? No it's not what Nigerians need right now! And this istration may still borrow money in the name of the project, and a chunk of the money may find it's way to the bank s of some individuals, while such project may be left uncompleted.

When it comes to insecurity and hunger, our country as at it's peak, as we have the worst level of hunger as well as the highest level of insecurity in the world. Ukraine and Russia that are fighting war are safer than Nigeria, where there is no war. Though we are not at war, but the level of insecurity in Nigeria put our country at war everyday.

Countries where there was coup like Chad Republic are even better than our country where we are under democracy; that they say is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. But this Tinubu's government has been for the few, very few and very few.

Till now government workers in Nigeria have not received pay rise despite that many of them cannot take home living wage.

Instead of this istration to take critical look at policies before formulating them, they just roll out policies and allow market forces to control them.

Monumental corruption issues are unaddressed properly: what happened to Beta Edu over the allegations of corruption leveled against her? There is no country that can succeed anywhere in the world where there is no adherence to the rule of law and where corruption is allowed. A country where it's only the poor that are punished for breaking the law, but as far as the elite do not step on toes they are above the law. And even if they eventually take them to court, they faint or even develop sudden illness, so the case keep dragging for along time. What happened to former CBN governor, Emefiele accused of stealing so much? Up till now the case is still dragging in court.

One year after Mr President was sworn in, none of our refineries is working, despite the promise last year that Port Harcourt refinery was going to kick off before the end of the year. The year has ended and another year is going half way, none of our refineries is working. Rather, we are dependent on an individual, Alhaji Dangote to have a functional refinery in the country of over two million in population.

Many of the governors are not doing well in their states. They got N5 billion palliatives, yet till now we don't know what most of them spend the palliatives on. And there is no governor who has been able to for the palliatives released to them by the federal government. Then there is need for the federal government to ask them what they have used the money to do.

It doesn't mean that there is nothing to give kudos to this istration for?

Number one, it's kudos for releasing, Omoyele Sowore. And I am seizing this opportunity to call on the government to also release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB. Because there is no point holding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in custody.

We must also commend the fact that democracy is stable in our nation. For stabilizing democracy, this istration should also be commended.

However, the fact still remains that on the overall scorecard, this istration will be placed below 50%.

We are using this medium to call on President Tinubu to check his policies, the way things are going, and the economy of the nation. People are not smiling. People are dying on the street, Nigerians can no longer afford three square meal a day: not even two square meal.

Also we are using this opportunity to call the attention of Mr. President to the fact that there is still a lot to do. We are Nigerians home and abroad, and we want our country to succeed. So we are appealing to Mr President to give it what it takes to make our country succeed.

Bring in experts that know what they are doing. Let's put policies on the table before we roll it out to Nigerians. So that at the end of the day, a good policy will not come out as a policy that will hit hard on Nigerians as the result of wrong implementation. Rather it should ease the trauma that people are going through.

The issue of insecurity must be effectively tackled. Quality and affordable education should be a major focus that this government needs to look into. Power (electricity) must be handled as the tariff keep going up, yet power supply keep coming down. A nation that will succeed must work to fix the electricity. Because once power is fixed in this country, then the problems have been cut in half.

I want to assert that we will continue to be an opposition: a formidable, positive and constructive opposition to this istration, but not a destructive one; because our desire is to ensure our country work and we have a nation we can all be proud of.

In conclusion, we will still celebrate our democracy. There is no perfect democracy anywhere in the world. We cannot get it right in one day. But some days, we will get it right. When some of us pick up a generational mantle of leadership and take over from our fathers. The fathers have done enough.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
May God bless you.
May God bless me.

I am Faduri Oluwadare Joseph aka Fadojoe.
The leader of Rescue Movement for New Nigeria aka Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative.

CSOs Give Reasons FG Should Reintroduce Cyber Security Levy

of Coalition of Civil Society Organisations under aegis of Forum for Good Governance in Nigeria (FGGN) have urged the federal government to reintroduce the Cyber Security Levy considering the advantages of enhancer security framework of financial operations in the country.

According the CSOs ,advantages of the cyber security Levy far outweighs the excuses given for revoking it.

Nigeria’s central bank did withdraw the controversial 0.5% cybersecurity levy on electronic transfers three days before it was supposed to take effect.

The levy was seen as “regressive” by financial industry experts due to the increase in the cost of an electronic transaction amidst the country’s highest inflation rate in thirty years and a cost of living crisis. Following mounting pressure from labour unions, the federal government suspended the levy and said it would be reviewed on Tuesday

The Civil Society Organisations in
a Communique issued after a one-day Review Meeting held at Arewa Auditorium today on with the theme: "Economic implications of Revoking the Cyber Security Levy vis-a-vis the advantages" backed the reintroduction of the Levy, since it's in line with internationally best practices .

In the communique tly signed by the National Coordinator and Secretary;Comrade Abraham Douglas and Comrade Bala Galadima Ikara, of the CSOs across 28 States of Nigeria reviewed the pros and cons and agree that the cyber security levy will enhance the security framework of financial operations.

While insisting that the Cyber Security Levy should be Re-Introduced considering the advantages, the CSOs said there is no alternate to a secured and trustworthy electronic transaction environment which will promote economic growth and digital financial inclusion.

According to the groups, considering the country's battered image globally, the Levy will help fund the development of a robust cybersecurity infrastructure . Stressing,"Cyber funding has become a veritable means of funding for terrorists and there's no way to combat terrorism successfully without denying them there sources of funding.

Further explaining reasons for ing CBN over the Cyber Security Levy is the implementation of advanced security measures; protecting financial institutions and customers from cyber threats and attacks by the so called ,"Yahoo Boys" .Adding that Cyber crimes have destroyed the lives of many young people and must be discouraged.

The communique further reads: "That in Compliance with Global Standards, the levy will help Nigeria align with international best practices in cybersecurity; enhancing the country's reputation and attract foreign investment, as investors will be assured of a secure environment for their investments.

"Against this background,We have strongly come out to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) circular and letter to all banks dated June25,2018(Ref:BPS/DlR/GEN/ClR/05/008)October5,2018(Ref:BSD/DIR/GEN/LAB/11/023) respectively on compliance with the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act 2015 refer.

"We did concur in line with the enactment of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) (Amendment) Act 2024 and pursuant to the provision of Section 44 (2)(a) of the Act, “a levy of 0.5% (0.005) equivalent to a half per cent of all electronic transactions value by the business specified in the Second Schedule of the Act’, which is to be remitted to the National Cybersecurity Fund (NCF), which shall be istered by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

"This because, the implementation of the Levy will no doubt enhance National Security and guarantee strengthening of cybersecurity; protecting critical infrastructure and sensitive information."

Unpaid Wages, Allowances: DICON Staff Seek Open Communication

In a move to address worker grievances, civilian staff at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) are demanding better communication with management and a resolution to outstanding wage concerns. The call comes after demonstrations held from April 23rd to May 3rd at the corporation's factory in Kaduna.

The staff are dissatisfied about being excluded from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), which raises concerns about transparency and the accuracy of their pay. They are also frustrated about the abrupt discontinuation of allowances for scarce skills and transportation, as well as outstanding payments related to minimum wage increases and a government award. "The lack of these payments has caused significant financial hardship for many of us and impacting their morale. We're struggling to make ends meet and feel increasingly frustrated," a DICON staff member stated.

They said while established communication channels exist, their attempts to raise concerns through town hall meetings have been met with silence. "We acknowledge established communication channels and attempted to raise these concerns through various means, including the Director General's Town Hall Meetings. However, the lack of response left us with limited options," the statement said.

The statement acknowledged a recent clarification from the Director General of DICON, Major General Aniedi Edet that wage control lies with a different entity as offering some hope for a quicker resolution of outstanding payments. They said they are encouraged by this development. "We were encouraged to hear the Director General's recent statement clarifying that DICON staff wage control resides with the President and ant General. We hope this expedites the resolution of outstanding payments," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the DICON staff expressed concern over the alleged formation of an investigative committee following the demonstrations. While acknowledging due process, they argued that “only a disproportionately small number (18) of participants were issued with queries signed by Air Commodore Ola Emmanuel, Director of Production.” According to them, “this raises concerns, given the overwhelmingly peaceful participation of over 80% of staff.” The staff therefore demanded a “fair and transparent process that avoids selective justice.”

Reacting to the staff's concerns, Major General Aniedi Edet, DICON's Director General, offered a contrasting perspective. He accused the staff of being "economical with the truth" and described their demonstrations as "mischievous and baseless." Major General Edet further claimed that such actions violated employee regulations and could result in prison , citing provisions in the Act of Employees' Conditions of Service that forbid protest, trade unionism, and strikes by corporation staff.

The DICON staff in the statement, however, emphasized that their demonstrations were "a legitimate expression of worker concerns, protected under their rights." They said they "remain dedicated to DICON and are open to exploring solutions that address their needs while benefiting both the workforce and the company." Open communication, they stated, "is key to achieving this."

*By Nuhu Muhammad Marghi*

In just one year, Governor Uba Sani has transformed Kaduna State from a struggling entity to a beacon of hope and progress. His istration's achievements are a testament to visionary leadership, unwavering dedication, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence.

Gone are the days of stagnation and mediocrity. Uba Sani's government has injected a new sense of purpose and energy into the state, tackling long-standing challenges with innovative solutions and a can-do attitude.

Rescue Movement Condemns FG's 'Shameful' N48,000 Minimum Wage Offer

The Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative, also known as the Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria, has vehemently condemned the Federal Government's offer of N48,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers. The organization's Director General, Martins Chiedozie Ugwu, described the offer as "shameful" and "embarrassing" considering the immense sacrifices workers make daily to build the country.

Speaking to newsmen in Enugu, Ugwu urged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to demonstrate his connection with the realities of life by meeting the expectations of Nigerian workers. He questioned the rationale behind the N48,000 offer when political appointees earn a minimum of N100,000 monthly, plus estacodes, despite not regularly going to work. Meanwhile, civil servants who work daily struggle to afford a bag of rice with their entire monthly salary.

Ugwu thus called on leaders across the continent to show responsibility towards workers. He emphasized that this meager offer is an insult to Nigerian workers and a clear indication of leaders' disconnect from the people's struggles.

The Rescue Movement demands a fair and living wage for workers, acknowledging their dedication and hard work in building the nation.

Politicians should not use, dump journalists-Senator Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central senatorial zone in the 8th senate has called on politicians in the country not to dump journalists after using them to ride to the peak of their political ambitions.

Senator Sani stated this when he surprisingly bankrolled a birthday party on Monday for the Kaduna State Correspondent of the Guardian newspaper, Mr. Saxone Akhaine who clocked 64 years of age.

There was eating and drinking by many journalists on the occasion at the State secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna Council.

Apparently itting a sense of guilt for 'abandoning' Mr. Akhaine after literally shooting him to the top ladder of his human rights activisms and political career over the years, the former lawmaker while addressing guests at the birthday party said he failed to appreciate Mr. Akhaine.

Senator Sani said by appreciating Mr. Saxone with the token birthday party, he was also appreciating the profession of journalism and the contributions of other journalists in Kaduna and the country in general, adding, "I am indebted to you, Saxone, don't lose hope".

He advised that journalists should always endeavour to celebrate their own just as they are celebrating others in the society.

This was even as Mr. Akhaine expressed gratitude to Senator Sani for the surprise birthday party.

Mr. Akhaine however, went on memory lane on his cordial relationship with Shehu Sani and Uba Sani, current governor of Kaduna State, during their days of human rights activism, adding that, "I am not happy that two of you are no longer together as it used to be because of political power".

According to Senator Shehu Sani, "I was skeptical to say that I know Saxone Akhaine more than 30 years ago because I don't want people to ask me, what have you done for him. This is because in the social media you expect things to go right, then they go left. I don't want it to be like the case of Dele Momodu of Ovation magazine who posed on the social media with a newspaper vendor whom he said he had known for over 40 years. And people started commenting, saying, and so what? What did you do for him?. The 99 percent of the comments were direct attack on Dele Momodu.

"So I had the fear of posting my own photograph with Saxone. The fact that I am courageous in outspoken on issues, I fear little things that can cause embarrassment. I had arranged my photo with Saxone and as I was about to click send, I withdrew my hand. We, I don't want to say I, knew Saxone more than 30 years ago. He was posted to Kaduna in 1991. We came in with him at the peak of the annulment of June 12, 1993.

"We would climbed bike to Saxone's office with our press statement and the next day it was in the newspaper. After climbing down from his office we would buy puff-puff from a lady selling around there. Then we would take our bike and go. And he never asked us for a dime.We were very sure that the next day our press statement would be published. So any time I see him there is always that feeling of guilt that I should do more for him. Also, I occasionally deliberately avoid Alhaji Tajudeen Tijani Ajibade who had worked with my father in those days at the New Newspaper here in Kaduna because I ought to have appreciated him too.

"There is nobody, being minister, governor and even President from northern Nigeria that has not benefited from professionalism of Saxone Akhaine. Many of them who were ministers , governors in the last 34 years would call him. Even former President Buhari would call him at that time. I know that 98 percent of these people don't pick a call. Recently I met a minister and I asked him; do you know Mr. Saxone of the Guardian newspaper? And he said, yes, I know him. And I said for how long have you known him? And he said for the past 30 years. Have you reached you to him. He said no. Look at life; so transient, you are somebody today, but tomorrow you are nobody because you are in and out of power.

"Some of you have been in journalism in Kaduna for a very long time, you have seen how people transit from nothingness to the peak of life because of your work of journalism. The Buhari that you go to his house at Sultan road in Kaduna to collect press statement and many other people that you have made in life. There is nobody who had presided over the affairs of Kaduna State in the last 30 years that have not directly or indirectly benefitted from the works of Saxone.

"We need to face the reality of life. You are not just journalists, you are recorders of history because we are in an era that whatever you write will be there till eternity. There are atimes you will like to go back to get what happened in 1809, you can't get the records. But if you go to the Google today, anything you put online will be there. I would say that Saxone has been so important in my life. Today we are known all over the place not because we were Senators but because of what you published . Many journalists have died in Kaduna. May their souls rest in peace.

"We have the culture of celebrating people only when they are dead. When they are alive we ignore them, when they are alive we don't see the reason to appreciate them. When you are celebrating the dead he or she will not appreciate all your encomium on hi inm or her. As journalists you have been celebrating others in the society, it is time you celebrate one of your own. By appreciating Saxone is also appreciating the profession of journalism and the contributions of all of you. I am indebted to you, Saxone, don't lose hope".

Contract Award: Group Defends Seyi Tinubu Over Board hip role in CDK Integrated Industries

... Faults Atiku's Allegation on Contract Award

Group under aegis of Forum For Good Governance (FGGN), has come out strongly to defend the President's Son,Mr. Seyi Tinubu after former Vice President,Alhaji Atiku Abubakar faulted the award of contract to a company he serves as a board member.

The former Vice President had accused the federal government of awarding construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway to Hitech Construction Company Ltd.

He did allege that Seyi is a director on the board of CDK Integrated Industries, a subsidiary of the Chagoury Group, which is a parent company of Hitech.

However ,In a press Statement tly signed by the National Coordinator and Secretary;Comrade Abraham Douglas and Comrade Bala Galadima Ikara, the group said the fact that Seyi's father is the President should not deny him access to pursue legitimate business interests within and outside the country.

While stating that the gigantic projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway would no doubt boost the economy; engender growth and development, it noted, "Seyi Tinubu an adult, who has a right to do business in as much as ,it's within the limits of the law."

The Statement further reads: "From the information we gathered, Seyi ed the Board of Directors of CDK in 2018 as an investor, with a good record of performance. So ,why deny such investor with capacity right to business patronage because, his father is the president.

"Unfortunately for Atiku who raised the issue, the Chairman of CDK and the highest shareholder of the company is General T.Y. Danjuma (retd.) and not Seyi Tinubu, who has been involved in business several years, before the father became President.

"The big question we are asking Atiku is , " How has Seyi as an investor on the board of CDK, conflicts with Hitech Construction Company’s work on Lagos-Calabar Coastal superhighway.

"He who must come to equity must come with clean hands. If Atiku raised an issue of conflict of interest, what we do say of him during his days as the vice-president, established Intels Nigeria with an Italian entrepreneur while serving in the Nigeria Customs Service .

“When he was Vice President of Nigeria between 1999-2007, he maintained his business links with Intels that won major port concession deals in Nigeria."

INSECURITY IN NORTHERN NIGERIA: CNG REPORT HIGHLIGHTS FAILURES, OFFERS SOLUTIONS

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has sounded a stark warning about the precarious state of security in Northern Nigeria.

In a recent report, the group highlighted the glaring failures of the current approach to tackling insecurity and offered practical solutions to address the menace.

The report is a clarion call to action, urging leaders and stakeholders to confront the crisis head-on before it is too late.

According to the CNG Chairman, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group has for past one year been brainstorming and doing extensive research beyond Northern Nigerian borders over the insecurity.

"We have mobilized security experts and formed a special committee on security, which also has sub-commitees, to ease the weight of work. We have just had another sixth months deliberations and running extensive research, even outside the North, to ensure we properly identify the immediate and remote causes of our insecurity as a region, in a comprehensive report that we intend to handover to our governors", the CNG Chairman explained.

The CNG report paints a dire picture of a region ravaged by criminality, poverty, and extremism. It notes that despite efforts by the government and security forces, insecurity continues to worsen, with communities living in fear of attacks, kidnappings, and banditry. The report identifies several factors contributing to this crisis, including a lack of synergy among security agencies, inadequate political will, and a failure to address the root causes of insecurity.

One of the most significant failures highlighted in the report is the lack of coordination among security agencies. The report notes that different agencies often work at cross-purposes, undermining efforts to combat insecurity. This lack of synergy has led to a proliferation of quasi-security outfits, which, although well-intentioned, often exacerbate the problem. The report calls for a unified command structure and a clear chain of command to address this issue.

Another critical failure identified in the report is the inadequate political will to confront the crisis. The report notes that political leaders often prioritize short-term gains over long-term solutions, failing to address the root causes of insecurity. This lack of political will has led to a culture of impunity, where criminals and extremists are allowed to flourish. The report urges political leaders to demonstrate the necessary courage and commitment to tackle insecurity head-on.

The CNG report also highlights the need to address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment. It notes that many young people in the region are vulnerable to radicalization and criminality due to a lack of opportunities and resources. The report calls for a comprehensive approach that addresses these underlying issues, including investing in education, job creation, and social welfare programs.

So, what are the solutions offered by the CNG report? Firstly, it calls for a unified security command structure, with clear lines of authority and communication. Secondly, it urges political leaders to demonstrate the necessary political will to confront the crisis, including addressing the root causes of insecurity. Thirdly, it recommends a comprehensive approach that addresses poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment, including investing in education, job creation, and social welfare programs.

In conclusion, the CNG report is a timely warning about the precarious state of security in Northern Nigeria. It highlights the failures of the current approach and offers practical solutions to address the crisis. Leaders and stakeholders must heed this warning and take decisive action to confront insecurity head-on. The future of the region depends on it.

Re-EFCC arrest Matawalle: Count Aminu Sani Jaji out of sponsoring protest-Group

By Ibrahim Awwal, Kaduna

A group under the auspices "Voice of Zamfara", has played down the allegation that Aminu Sani Jaji, a member of House of Representatives, representing Birnin Magaji/Kaura Namoda federal constituency of sponsoring a protest at EFCC in Abuja calling on the Commission to arrest and investigate the Minister of State, Defence, Bello Matawalle on allegations of misappropriation of N70 billion missed during his tenure.

A statement issued by Abubakar Matawalle, Secretary General of the group observed that those behind the accusations are desperate to reintroduce political thuggery and instability in the state, despite what the state has been experiencing, security wise.

He said, "It is established that anyone who knows the former governor of Zamfara state and the present Minister of Defence (state), would not be surprised if he sees such accusations coming from people ing him; attempting to introduce political instability, baselessly accusing those he tagged political threats and anyone who's not with him, politically and otherwise. He did this when he was the governor against many of his friends who were not with him politically and socially and they are still alive to and confirm this.

"With the above-mentioned character of Bello Matawalle, one doesn't bother to take him serious anymore, not even his principal who appointed him Minister of State Defence out of comion, but in order not to allow our innocent indigenes of our dear state and the generality of the people to be deceived by these false allegations and shedding of crocodile tears, there's need to put the record straight and remind the Honourable Minister that what he did during his tenure as our governor, is there fresh in our minds. The allegations contained in the press release against the person of Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji are directly applicable to Bello Matawalle himself while the remaining ones very laughable and flabbergasted.

"Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji was accused of not ing President Ahmed Bola Tinubu because he didn't his candidature when he was aspiring to be the Speaker of the tenth Assembly. He was said to have been requested by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to step down for the present Speaker, but Aminu Jaji refused to adhere to this request from the President. This made Hon. Aminu sabotaging the effort of President Tinubu and resolved for anti party. This is too laughable and surprising. Hon. Sani Jaji has been with President Bola Tinubu since when people like Bello Matawalle were not only going against him, but doing everything possible to truncate his ambition for winning the presidency."

He lamented that Aminu Sani Jaji was accused of not ing President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, saying that the House of Representatives member has been a strong er of President Tinubu since he declared his intention to vying the presidency.

He added, "Aminu Sani Jaji was the Director of and mobilisation committee (PCC) of Bola Tinubu in the North-West where he engaged a lot of his personal money, travelled all over the country canvassing for Ahmed Bola Tinubu."

The Secretary General called on the people of Zamfara state to disregard any accusation against  the lawmaker, alleging that the accusation is coming from those "expired politicians who robbed their treasury empty and left their children unable to even write their WAEC and NECO".

He explained that Aminu Sani Jaji isn't behind Matawalle's travails, stressing that the people should not be carried away from what those people requested for, but everyone be able to his actions during his istration.

According to him, "We believe all these false allegations are just political vendetta to checkmate the political popularity Aminu Sani Jaji is now enjoying in Zamfara state and this is posing threat to their political journey and ambitions. That's why they resolved to political war against the person of Aminu Sani Jaji. But this would not change the narration, because we, in Zamfara state are now politically wise and determined to choose between patriotic persons with capacity that can translate vision into reality and political liabilities who are all out to enrich themselves through the government coffers."

He believed that it is a calculative plan to tarnish the image of Aminu Sani Jaji because of his snappy rising popularity in the state that has thrown them into political oblivion that poses great danger and threats to their political umpire and temple as well trying to set the state into political instability.

"Zamfara state now needs peace and stability and we distanced ourselves from political thuggery. We need leaders not rulers. Leaders with the fear of God and leaders who can strive to translate vision into reality. The era of political slavery has expired," he emphasized.
