Men, please what ever you do,do not leave your wife to raise your sons alone

Women often forget that there are billions of other women around them so I really don't know why they like to feel special?

And I have nothing to say about those men they were probably given wrong ideas since childhood.

I have seen two examples of this before but I think it is degrading to women. Our ladies be no longer have dignity again. It's a shame.. How I wish wives could remain submissive to their lovers either home or abroad.

You can read my earlier comment to find out why that is impossible.

Anything for sane and good Nigerians to know the truth.

I can't wait for you guys to finish your investigation about this s and tell Nigeria the evil politicians that sponsored hoodlums to start killing and burning down private businesses and put a stop to our peaceful protest initially.

They will pay for their evil act.

It ought to be clear to you my response was directed to NwadykExcel.

Do you have an idea of how many graduates this country has presently?? The number is embarrassingly too large, how many decades of churning out jobless graduates again

Well I wouldn't go into further details on that so I don't hear it too much...

I don't think I hinted anywhere I'm against education, the op asked for backup plans if education failed and he said his backup was education still...how is that plausible in the first place when the question had been conditioned so??! Think about that please.

We claim the country is saturated with businesses and entrepreneurs already but is that so?? What I think we fail to realize is that the world has moved off into the information age and the industrial era is getting into its final close. When people say they are getting a skill I don't think it's the tailoring, automobile mechanic, fashion design thingy per se. The world as we know it today is more a global village and thankfully we are getting access to information more readily via the internet, office works are getting out of fashion...the world is moving off into cloud computing and people who posses good skills are ever needed. Traditional "professionals" are very much less in demand. What it takes to thrive in this time anywhere are skills, not certificates.

Why do you think most graduates around here are regarded as 'unemployable'? You probably should be asking yourself right now, what makes a graduate employable??! Skills my man, not the "this is to certify that ......" America today as we know it was built out from economic disadvantage off the efforts of nothing but pure skill and grit, very industrious men who displayed great ion gave the foundation of what you see today as the number one nation. Men who showed skill and not just intellect or academia alone.

according to the op, this wasn't a choice between classroom education and/or skills acquisition, he said a 'backup plan'. If there's one who failed to address the op correctly I suspect it should be the young man I initially responded to.

To address the issue of businesses failing to make profit, how do we expect this not to be. The flow of money is greatly outbalanced hence the constant failures recorded by people going into business (which in most cases are people who have failed to do due diligence).

Again, it isn't a "vs' matter!

-Lloyd

I applaud your well detailed explanation and concede defeat in this argument.

Again, let's say I were to start a business what are the processes of "due diligence" I could undertake to stop the failure of said business.

Bro the thread clearly says, "what's your next plan if school doesn't work out"? Not "is skill worth more than education"?

Part of his comment was "My main plan and back-up plan all involves me getting an education so if you like be there and be doing "vocational skill" .we'll see how far that really gets you" .

So according to the thread's title, does one still opt for education when it has clearly failed him in a failed country like Nigeria? That's why his comment is laughable, because it doesn't work that way in a setting like Nigeria.
And yes, you can be successful through a skill you acquired without finishing or going through higher institution.

Well, your explanation was very detailed, I'll give u that. His comment was actually laughable for the most part.

You sir, have won my respect. If you have any business going on I wish you the best in it.

Lol, funny guy.
You're probably from a wealthy home and attend a private school. Life hasn't hit you, yet.
Or you've forgotten that this is Nigeria? cheesy

He didn't say you shouldn't learn a skill. He said that learning of said skill shouldn't be used to replace your education.

You should go read his post again.

While acquiring a skill, you'd be getting educated. At the end of the day, depending on how fast things works out...you could be at the receiving end young man. Haven't you for a moment thought about the implications of fully developed AI technology??! It's far reaching effects!!

I foresee a future where man wouldn't have to work as we've known, robots and computers are taking over everything since machine learning came to fore. From design to development, AIs are perfecting the schemes. What numbers do you have that machines wouldn't finesse in split seconds??

Don't be the shortsighted one, knowledge can be very useless if it can't translate into skill. What good is a husband who knows how to kill a rat in the bedroom but can't kill one at that ungodly hour when it mattered??

I've met a professor of Mechanical Engineering from UI during my IT experience at a workshop in Ibadan who said although he knew all about the car he drove, he can't perform a simple general servicing of the said automobile.

Don't wait to see how far ahead they get!

-Lloyd

If you ask me I'd say you got a little too philosophical in your post. We're talking about the job market and how you plan to survive if education doesn't work out and your explanation doesn't pan out.

In our economy today the fact is that there is no room for businesses to thrive or even get the profit they were expecting. If you ask me almost all business ventures in our country are over saturated and don't bring profit. The only solution is to get an education (a wide one not just ssce or a bachelor's) and I assure you that there will be no limit to the success you can achieve ( just kidding there is actually a limit because this is Nigeria).

Like Nwadykexcel the person above you said "Those looking at skill acquisition as a substitute for education are truly shortsighted."

Careful, before Buhari's zombies here do like their father and call you a lazy youth for saying the truth about how our largest cash cow has been mismanaged.

The UAE and Saudi are already moving away from oil gradually. Within the next 20 years as energy production diversifies, oil will go the way of cotton and sugar in losing their value.

When that happens the problems we are seeing today will be child's play.

You're very right. With the introduction of various renewable energy projects I see the price of oil falling gradually in the next 10 years.
