A cross section of Nigerian voters yesterday, criticised the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 presidential election as insensitive and an act of self-preservation by politicians within the ruling party.

On Thursday, the APC’s 22 governors, all its in the National Assembly, and its National Working Committee (NWC), alongside zonal leaderships, endorsed and adopted President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate — barely two years into his istration and despite the fact that the president is yet to formally announce his intention to seek re-election.

Reacting to the development, Nigerians who spoke with Daily Trust yesterday expressed disappointment but said the move did not come as a surprise. Many of them lamented the unbearable cost of living and said the istration had failed to meet expectations.

In interviews, citizens from various walks of life voiced frustration over economic hardship, insecurity, and worsening poverty under the current government.

Rashida Muhammad, an istrative officer at a real estate firm in Abuja, was blunt in her assessment of Tinubu’s leadership.

“Tinubu does not deserve a second term. Look at how poorly he has performed in his first tenure. The country is at its lowest point right now,” she said.

Rashida pointed out that the cost of everything has doubled, and more people are going hungry daily. She said basic items she once purchased without thought have now become luxuries.

“I’ve had to cut back on a lot of things. The cost of living right now is just out of hand. I have nothing to say to the President because he already knows what’s going on and has done nothing about it.”

For Tafewa Muhammad, a farmer and fish seller, the politicians’ endorsement of Tinubu for a second term was predictable, reflecting the self-serving nature of Nigeria’s political class.

“They’re not interested in public welfare. It’s all about personal benefits, personal finances. Corruption is so deep now, it’s become normal,” he said.

Tafewa also criticised the government’s policy direction, especially the rollout of compressed natural gas (CNG) without making it affordable or accessible.

“They introduced CNG, but it’s too expensive to convert, and the gas is hard to get. Why bring out an alternative people can’t use,” he queried.

He added that his business has suffered severely since Tinubu took office. “Fish feed that used to cost N7,000 to N10,000 now sells for over N21,000. We’ve had to take loans to stay afloat. Inflation wiped out last year’s profits.”

Asked what he would say to the president if given the chance, Tafewa replied: “We are not asking for miracles. Just fix the power problem. Everything else can follow.”

Chidera Vitalis Ononiwu, a secondary school teacher, believes Nigeria’s problems go beyond the economy.

“The situation is a total mess. There’s no direction and no strong political will. Security is bleeding. We need federal leadership that can issue clear directives, and more regional security outfits,” he said.

Ononiwu also dismissed the growing for Tinubu as politically motivated. “Some politicians are ing Tinubu to remain politically relevant and to push us towards a one-party system. They’re greedy and have no ideology.”

She called for a different kind of leadership, adding that “Nigeria needs a pragmatic leader, someone who combines Democratic and Republican values, understands global issues, promotes ability, and prioritises welfare.”

Philip Simon Dauda warned that Nigeria is “slipping into a one-party state,” arguing that politicians are prioritising political survival over governance.

“The president hasn’t even completed two years, yet the focus is already on 2027,” he said, lamenting the weakened state of the opposition.

Tunde Nafiu echoed similar fears, describing the current climate as “creeping dictatorship.”

In Kano, reactions were similar. Alhaji Ibrahim Dantani, a farmer, said: “This endorsement by APC Governors doesn’t surprise me. They are politicians and will always one another no matter the situation on the ground. But as a common man, I’m struggling to feed my family. Food prices are skyrocketing, fertiliser is expensive, and there’s no light. If they think this kind of suffering is a good record to endorse, then they are far from the reality ordinary people face.”

Aisha Mohammed, a school teacher, told our correspondent: “Endorsing Tinubu for 2027 at this point is premature and insensitive. Many civil servants are not paid on time, and even when paid, the money can’t sustain a household for a week. I don’t understand what the Governors are celebrating. Nigerians want solutions, not political rallies disguised as endorsements.”

Yusuf Aliyu, a community youth leader in the state, added: “I believe some of these governors are just playing it safe, trying to secure their political future. But if you go to the markets or ride public transport, you’ll hear the real opinion of Nigerians. People are angry, tired, and hungry. If the APC thinks endorsement equals grassroots , they are mistaken. 2027 is still far, but people are already asking questions.”

Endorsements signal Nigerians must prepare for 2027 – Analysts weigh in

As the torrent of endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to dominate headlines, political analysts have weighed in on the current istration’s performance—and what the show of means for Nigeria’s political future.

Professor Hassan Saliu, National Chairman of the Nigeria Political Science Association (NPSA), acknowledged that although Tinubu has been in office for just about two years, some government policies urgently need reassessment.

“While some policies are commendable, others have failed to improve the living conditions of Nigerians,” Saliu said. “There is a pressing need to review these interventions to ensure better outcomes for the people.”

Addressing the wave of defections and endorsements flooding the ruling party, the Professor noted: “This is expected in a political environment where politics is the only functioning sector—a place where returns are treated like business profits. In the absence of ideology or principles, money becomes the driving force. That explains the mass migration of politicians to the ruling party.”

Saliu lamented that despite such political movements, poverty is on the rise. “Even if the president isn’t directly responsible for the defections, he must take a hard look at this trend and find ways to ease the mounting political tension.”

However, he expressed doubt that the government would make any dramatic policy shifts. “The istration is already celebrating its achievements, signaling a reluctance to accept criticism.”

He urged Nigerians to use the remaining two years of the istration either to endorse its performance or prepare to vote for new leadership. “But we should avoid overheating the political climate. The presidential term is four years, and only half has ed. Nigerians must remain patient and vigilant, steering clear of actions that could worsen tensions,” he advised.

Seyid Hassan Cisse, a lecturer in Policies and Governance at Kwara State University, stressed that the Tinubu istration must acknowledge that more is expected than what has been delivered so far.

Cisse urged the government to focus on alleviating hardship in the remaining years, especially considering controversial policies like the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira—measures he described as “killing and frustrating.”

“We believe the government can still revitalize the people by revisiting these policies. With elections approaching, there should be renewed effort,” Cisse said. “Despite the challenges, the istration should reexamine the petrol policy and restore economic balance, aligning policies with tangible benefits and positive public perception.”

He maintained that much can still be achieved in less than two years if the government prioritizes well and recalibrates its economic policies toward the people. “Any government willing to act decisively can achieve results in that timeframe,” he said.

Regarding the wave of defections, Cisse viewed it as a potentially effective strategy if the government uses the time wisely to consolidate its base. “The key is to make good use of the remaining period,” he added.

Meanwhile, Professor Kamilu Sani Fage of Bayero University, Kano, said the endorsements are unsurprising given the realities of Nigerian politics.

“Our politicians prioritize self-interest over national interest. That explains the race to endorse the president,” he said. “One reason is that some former governors want automatic tickets to contest the next election. Another is that those in their last term seek to align with the government to benefit from the next istration. Also, some are likely fearful of repercussions from agencies like the EFCC, IC, and DSS, which have been used to coerce for the government,” he said.

He argued that the endorsements are not only expected but also unconstitutional at this stage. “By electoral law, campaign activities are to start 150 days before the election. Here, we are far from that, yet politicians are racing to endorse.”

Fage stressed the disconnect between political ambitions and the harsh realities facing ordinary Nigerians: “While insecurity, poverty, hunger, unemployment, and inflation ravage the country, politicians focus more on elections than service delivery. This self-serving behaviour is uncalled for and unconstitutional.”

Dr. Kabiru Sufi, a politics lecturer also based in Kano, described the current political landscape as one of intense “political horse trading” ahead of 2027.

“We are all heading towards the 2027 election, and political activities have begun in earnest,” he said. “Defections in the National Assembly and among governors, and moves by the opposition to counter the ruling APC, all signal the start of the 2027 politicking.”

Sufi said the APC governors’ endorsement of Tinubu is partly a response to opposition moves. “They want to show that the president commands strong not only from defectors but also from within the party leadership.”

He recalled the significance of Governors’ endorsements before the 2023 elections. “PDP lost the presidential election partly because Jonathan failed to secure the backing of five PDP governors. Traditionally, Governors’ endorsements carry weight.”

However, Sufi noted that the 2023 election somewhat diminished this influence, citing how Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, with no Governor’s endorsement, attracted substantial votes. “This slightly reduced the Governors’ importance, but their backing still signals political horse trading.”

He suggested that Governors ing Tinubu may be positioning themselves to secure re-election tickets and political favours in 2027. “This is a clear indication that politicking for 2027 started early in 2025.”

Sufi also highlighted that Governors want to be key players in national politics and are using their for the President to consolidate power. “By backing Tinubu, they are shutting down any opposition within the APC. Any real challenge will likely come from outside the party.”

He concluded: “We should expect more political moves as the election approaches, with Governors playing an active role in shaping the contest.”

But a Professor of Political Sociology at the University of Abuja, Abubakar Kari, told Daily Trust that the rush for endorsement of President Tinubu is sequel to opposition leaders’ early move to unseat the President in 2027.

Kari said it would be “politically incorrect” for the ruling party to fold its arms and watch opposition parties gang up against it and the president.

He said the formation of anti-Tinubu coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar when the President was barely two years into his first term of office triggered the reaction from the APC.

Jackson Lekan Ojo, another political analyst, however, dismissed the significance of the endorsements, saying they will not determine the outcome of the 2027 election.

“The 2027 election will be between Tinubu and Nigerians, who will exercise their franchise either for or against his bid for a second term,” Ojo said.

He also criticised the APC for ‘‘violating campaign regulations’’. “The ruling party is proving to be lawless by conducting campaign activities when the electoral umpire has yet to release official guidelines.”

“We are still in governance, not politics, yet these politicians have blurred the line, distracting the government system,” Ojo added.

He warned that the endorsements are unlikely to influence voters. “The party’s decision is not the decision of the populace. The best campaign strategy is performance. Instead of ing Tinubu to tackle insecurity, poverty, and the collapse of education and health sectors, they mock Nigerians by endorsing him.”

Ojo cautioned that the endorsements may damage the president’s future electoral prospects rather than help them.

Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed, a former director in President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council and erstwhile member of the Police Service Commission, claimed Tinubu has sidelined the North and runs a government centred on the South West.

Speaking on The PAP Show, anchored by Hadiza Malumfashi in Abuja, Hajiya Naja’atu, who now chairs the Northern Star Foundation, a non-governmental organisation focused on empowering Northern youth, said she only accepted the campaign role after repeated pleas and not out of political conviction.

“I never ed him. “I ed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the primaries. But when Tinubu won the APC ticket, I was asked to serve as a director in charge of NGOs, which I found contradictory because NGOs should be apolitical,” she stated.

Naja’atu recounted a meeting with Tinubu in London where she questioned him about his plans for the North.

“He told me he had no plans for the North. When I asked what he had for the country, he said his only plan was the APC manifesto. He said a personal blueprint would offend too many interests,” she said.

According to her, when she presented a blueprint for the North through the Network for National Salvation, it was dismissed.

“One of his aides, Masari, said all the North needed was state police. That we didn’t need electricity, infrastructure, or to tackle out-of-school children and insecurity,” she said.

Accusing the president of sidelining not just the North but also the South East, Naja’atu said Tinubu’s appointments and policies show favouritism towards the Yoruba ethnic group.

“He’s a regional president. Everything revolves around the South West. Billions are being pumped into Lagos, even federal agencies and functions are being moved there,” she claimed. “He has turned himself into a Yoruba king, and that’s dangerous for national unity.”

Naja’atu alleged that Tinubu’s governance style mirrors his political control of Lagos since 1999, arguing that he has retained influence in the state long after leaving office as governor.

“No other former leader has had such a grip on power. Not even Obasanjo or any military ruler,” she said.

She further claimed that Tinubu’s tenure has deepened economic hardships, citing increased production costs, naira devaluation, and rising insecurity across the country.

“What Nigeria needs is a unifier, a leader whose constituency is the entire country. But what we have now is a president who has balkanized Nigeria along regional lines,” she said.

She also questioned the federal government’s silence on Sunday Igboho’s secessionist activities compared to the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu.

“If Igboho could walk free while Kanu is kept in detention, what message does that send?” she asked.

Naja’atu warned that the country’s foundation was being eroded under Tinubu’s watch, urging citizens to demand more inclusive and visionary leadership.

“Governance should be about the welfare and security of all Nigerians, not a few. Sadly, that’s not what we’re seeing today,” she said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Fred Ajudua, a Lagos-based socialite and businessman, in connection with an alleged $1.43 million fraud.

The arrest took place in Abuja on Tuesday, following a Supreme Court order issued on Friday, 5 May 2025, which revoked his bail and directed that he be remanded in the Correctional Service.

A highly placed source at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja who spoke in confidence, informed Vanguard of the development on Tuesday evening.

“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Lagos-based socialite and businessman Fred Ajudua, pending his re-arraignment for an alleged $1.43 million fraud. He was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday and is currently in EFCC custody,” the source said.

The arrest marks the latest chapter in a legal battle spanning decades between Ajudua and the anti-corruption agency. A former socialite, Ajudua has faced numerous allegations of advance-fee fraud since the 1990s.

The Supreme Court’s decision to revoke his bail followed an earlier ruling by the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, which had granted him bail. The apex court’s ruling reflects the judiciary’s resolve to uphold ability in high-profile fraud cases.

However, there are indications that Ajudua may have absconded prior to his arrest, raising concerns about the enforcement of judicial orders and the effectiveness of compliance mechanisms.

Ajudua’s legal troubles date back to 1993, when he was accused of defrauding a German businessman of $1.43 million.

He has since faced further allegations, including defrauding two Dutch nationals of $1.69 million between 1999 and 2000, and allegedly swindling former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, of $8.4 million in 2004 while both were detained at Kirikiri Prison.

In 2016, the EFCC filed a 28-count charge against him for conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences. The case has been plagued by repeated delays, health-related bail applications, and a failed arrest attempt in 2007.

When ed for comment, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to provide further details regarding the arrest.

INEC YET TO MAKE A DECISION ON DISAGREEMENTS IN THE LABOUR PARTY

Our attention has been drawn to some media reports claiming that the Commission has recognised certain persons as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP). The reports also inferred that the Commission has restored a particular individual as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), referring to the listings on the Commission’s official website.

However, the reports are false and misleading. The Commission has not made any decision in respect of either the LP or PDP.

The names of the National Officers of the LP had previously been ed to our website following a court order, not related in any way to the latest judgement of the Supreme Court. In the same manner, the name of the National Secretary of the PDP on the same website was neither deleted nor reinstated.

As a law abiding institution, the Commission is carefully studying the judgement of the Supreme Court on the Labour Party and will communicate its decision to the public in due course.

This is the first time that the governor is meeting with President Tinubu since his defection to the ruling party.

Dr. Adaeze Oreh is one of the suspended Commissioners under Gov Sim Fubara and a daughter to Sir Peter & Justice Mary Odili
REJECTING BASELESS ALLEGATIONS AND SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT

The allegations levelled against me, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, regarding the supposed disruption of the First Lady's empowerment program on Friday 2nd May 2025, are entirely unfounded, completely false, and a product of the sick imagination of rumour mongers and conflict entrepreneurs. They are nothing more than a feeble and mischievous attempt to tarnish my reputation and sow discord.

I challenge the "Concerned Rivers Youth Organisation"(assuming such a body really exists) to provide tangible proof to their assertions. It is essential to base criticisms on facts rather than speculation or puerile political agendas.

I have neither sponsored nor will sponsor any activities aimed at embarrassing or disrupting the activities of the istration appointed by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to oversee the affairs of Rivers State following his declaration of a state of emergency on Tuesday 18th March 2025, and have rather spent the time of my suspension from office focused on other endeavours and my doctoral studies.

I reaffirm my commitment to working tirelessly for the progress and development of Rivers State.

Furthermore, I believe that it is crucial for all stakeholders to promote a culture of truth, integrity, and respect in public discourse.

Unsubstantiated wild claims undermine trust and hinder constructive engagement, and this is not what the state needs at this difficult and delicate time. I urge everyone to focus on issues that unite us and foster a positive, solution-driven dialogue for the betterment of our state, and urge everyone to work together to build a brighter future for Rivers State, grounded in truth, transparency, and collective effort.

Immediate past governor of Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa, and all the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the state executive council have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr Olisa Ifeajika, has said that the former Governor of the State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, never regretted being a running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.

Ifeajika, at a press briefing in Asaba, said that at no time did Okowa say he regretted being the Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, as reported in some sections of the media.

He explained that the news filtering around town that the former Governor regretted his actions was a bad phenomenon that must be discarded.

“In that interview, there was no time when Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa said he regretted being Vice Presidential candidate to Atiku or regretted being on that ticket with him,” he said.

“What Okowa said was that in the course of the campaign, they even realised that the people wanted a president from the South; so it was a southern matter,” he said.

“At that point, nothing could be done as PDP was already on the ballot, working hard to win the election. But electorates had the power, and they voted the way they wanted.

“And so that was what the people wanted, and they got it, and lessons had been learnt. The lesson learnt is that you must do a needs assessment to know what the people want. And what the South wanted in 2023 was a president from the South.”

On why they all defected to APC, the Executive Assistant explained thus: “The vehicle called PDP that was conveying everybody is seen to be faulty, and it will take only fools to remain as it crashes when one is inside.

“As at the time we left, PDP was already a sinking boat, a shadow of itself, and many things have gone wrong. The umbrella is torn, and it no longer covers anybody anymore.”

Disregard purported dissolution, appointment of Caretaker Committee for Bayelsa PDP - Ogoli

… Orbih's illegal Zonal EXCO lacks such powers

George Turnah's suspension still subsists.

The attention of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a frivolous story making the rounds that the State Working Committee of the PDP headed by Hon. Solomon Agwana (JP) has been dissolved and that in its place a State Caretaker Committee has been appointed by illegal factional Zonal Executive Committee headed by Chief Dan Orbih.

Much as this matter is intentionally mischievous and ludicrous, Bayelsa State Chapter of the PDP would respond appropriately to the issues raised by these misguided fellows inorder to tell the truth.

To start with, the tenure of the former Zonal Executive Committee of the PDP elapsed on the 13th Of March, 2025 and inorder to avoid a vacuum a Caretaker Committee was appointed and constituted by the National Working Committee (NWC) on the 13th March, 2025 and headed by the highly respected Chief Emmanuel Ogidi to oversee the affairs of the Party pending the convocation of an Elective South South Zonal Congress of the Party.

Additionally ,the National Working Committee (NWC) had equally pronounced the factional Zonal PDP congress which held in Calabar, Cross River State that produced Chief Dan Orbih and his ilk as unconstitutional and a nullity. We also place it on record that the Zonal EXCO of the Party even when it is properly constituted still lacks the constitutional powers to dissolve a State Working Committee of the Party.

Similarly, the State High Court which sat in respect of the suspension of Mr. George Turnah has yet to determine the case and in which case Mr. George Turnah still remain suspended from hip of the PDP in the State.

It is therefore, shameful that George Turnah whose greed knows no bounds who used to be the Zonal Legal Adviser surreptitiously took over the office of the former Zonal Secretary of the Party, Prof. Felix Omemu, who was a close friend, brother and confidant. Not satisfied with his greed, he has today announced himself as the New State Chairman of a Caretaker Committee. We wish to onish Bayelsans especially the youth to be wary of Mr. George Turnah's under hand dealings and desist from ing forces with him to create division, disaffection and chaos in our party..

2027 is months away and we should resist the plans by outside forces to destabilize our dear State.

Our dear Governor, Senator Douye Diri is a patriot who has proven that he means well for the quick transformation of our homeland. And the duty we owe ourselves is to continue to him deliver on his ASSURED AGENDA for PROSPERITY for us all which is the obligation we owe Bayelsa, and our children yet unborn.

Signed

Barely a week after suspected armed herders massacred over 50 farmers in parts of Benue State, fresh violence erupted in the early hours of Tuesday as gunmen stormed Afia community in Ukum Local Government Area, killing 11 residents and leaving several others injured.

The Ter Ukum, His Royal Highness, Chief Iyorkyaa Kaave, disclosed in Makurdi while addressing a security meeting convened to assess the spate of violence in the area.

Describing the attack as unprovoked and part of a calculated agenda to displace indigenous farmers, the monarch condemned the continued loss of lives and property in his domain.

“As I speak to you, these attacks began on Thursday in Logo and by Good Friday had spread to several communities in Ukum. We are still counting the dead, recovering more corpses and many of our people remain missing,” the monarch lamented.

According to him, Tuesday’s attack on Afia was particularly brutal, as the armed assailants stormed the community at dawn, firing sporadically at residents and leaving eleven dead on the spot, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Kaave expressed fears that the armed herders are bent on displacing local populations to seize their lands, noting that the situation has reached a crisis point.

“These people are different from the Fulani we knew and lived peacefully with in the 1970s and 1980s. Back then, they would come during the dry season with their families and cattle. But what we are witnessing now are armed men with AK-47s, attacking our people in their sleep, and returning to occupy their homes,” the monarch stated.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action, warning against any move to negotiate with those behind the killings.

“The president should understand this clearly — we do not want to settle with murderers. These people have a hidden but now obvious agenda: to kill, displace and occupy,” he said.

The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Robinson Ewor, has launched a scathing attack on Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of plotting to wreck the party from within — with alleged from President Bola Tinubu.

Ewor, speaking during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Monday, declared that Wike is no longer a true member of the PDP, asserting that the former Rivers governor’s loyalty now lies firmly with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Nyesom Wike, FCT minister, is no longer a member of the PDP. Nyesom Wike today exists in PDP because he is on a mission to destroy the PDP, to destroy the opposition in the country, not just Rivers state,” Ewor said.

He alleged that Wike’s insistence on keeping Sam Anyanwu as the PDP’s National Secretary, despite internal opposition, is part of a broader plan to destabilise the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“That is why today he is insisting that Sam Anyanwu remains national secretary. What is his business? You are serving an APC government. You have pledged your loyalty to the APC. You have said it openly and publicly that you will the APC in the 2027 general election. What business does Wike still have in the APC?” Ewor asked pointedly.

He added, “In good conscience, let’s leave the law and every other thing. In good conscience, can Nigerians still see Wike as a member of the PDP? The answer is no.”

The most damning part of Ewor’s remarks came when he accused President Tinubu of bankrolling Wike’s activities, claiming the FCT minister is being used as a political tool to weaken the PDP from within.

“To us in Rivers, Wike is no longer a member of the PDP. He is only here to destroy the PDP, to destroy the opposition. And the president is helping him. That is the irony of it. The president is funding Wike,” he alleged.

Ewor’s comments reflect the growing tension within the PDP ranks as they grapple with internal divisions and high-profile defections, raising questions about the party’s unity and ability to present a formidable opposition ahead of the next general elections.

APRIL 19, 2025.

]Inibehe Effiong REPLIES:
LAGOS POLICE SPREADING FAKE NEWS IN FAILED BID TO COVER ITS ATROCIOUS FRAME-UP OF QUADRI ALABI.

Our attention has been drawn to a false and provocative statement issued by the Lagos State Police Command in which the Command unsuccessfully attempted to mislead the public on the fabricated case they initiated against Quadri Alabi.

The statement is not only laughable, it is ridiculous. It is embarrassing to see the police spread disinformation and fake news about an innocent Nigerian child.

Nigerians will note that in our previous statements, we disclosed that our client was abducted by two ‘Area Boys’ named Lege and Baba Waris while he was on his way home from work and dumped at the Amukoko Divisional Police Station.

These same Area Boys and their cohorts have been been harassing our client since 2023 in their effort to extort “their share” of the donations made to him after he stood in front of the convoy of Mr. Peter Obi.

In its statement, the police claimed that Quadri was arrested in connection with street fighting.

They also claimed that some properties were damaged, and that some persons were also robbed. According to the police, Quadri was identified by some people in the community and by the victims.

First, we wish to restate that Quadri is not 18 years old as mischievously parroted by the police. He is 17 as contained in his birth certificate and attested to by his mother.

He was born on the 29th day of September, 2007.

Second, Quadri was not involved in street fighting and did not rob anyone, he also did not damage anyone’s property.

Third, there was no time that our client was identified by any victim of the alleged crimes. The police should tell the public when and where the identification was done and the method used.

How was Quadri identified by the alleged victims when no identification parade was conducted as required by law, given that the alleged offences were said to have been committed at about 10pm?

Fourth, the police in their statement said that our client was arrested, but they failed to state who exactly arrested him and the place he was arrested. Their silence on these key points is quite revealing.

Sixth, the so-called casemates of Quadri are adults who are not known to him. The police failed to disclose the relationship or connection between Quadri and the four adults who were remanded along with him.

We should also state for the records that the police had detained Quadri for about a week in the police cell before unlawfully taking him before a Magistrate for remand.

It is the law that once the permissible constitutional limit for detaining a suspect has ed, a subsequent order of remand cannot cure the infringement.

It is preposterous that despite the Legal Advice issued by the Learned Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lagos State exonerating Quadri, and his subsequent discharge by the Court, the Lagos State Police Command rather than exude remorse, has chosen the ignoble path of doubling down on its acts of perfidy, shamelessness, lawlessness, and utter contempt for justice and the truth.

We condemn this gross act of recklessness and irresponsibility by the police.

By taking this path, the Nigeria Police Force is reminding the country that it is very far from redemption.

We shall meet the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the DPO of Amukoko CSP Olaniran Ismaila O., the IPO Inspector Odigbe Samuel, and others in the court in the coming days to seek redress and adequate compensation for Quadri.

We will also file a formal complaint with the Police Service Commission against the lawless DPO of Amukoko.

Nigeria is our country, we will not allow agents of impunity to get away with such abominable oppression of a Nigerian child.

The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on the nation’s security and economy sectors.

He made this call on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Daily where he also faulted the President’s declaration of a state of emergency in the oil-rich Rivers State.

“Let the President forget about everything and concentrate on three things – security, welfare of citizens and economy,” he stated.

“His attention should go there as number 1, then he should create a state of emergency in those areas.”

Describing himself as a democrat, he said Tinubu’s declaration of emergency in rule in Rivers was surprising.

He said the President acted in a wrong move by that action on March 18 following the protracted political crisis in the state.

In a nationwide broadcast, Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara; his deputy Ngozi Odu; and all the of the House of Assembly for six months.

The president nominated Vice iral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) as to take charge of the affairs of the state for the first six months.

The president relied on Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution to make the proclamation. The section interprets a state of emergency as a situation of national danger, disaster or terrorist attacks in which a government suspends normal constitutional procedures to regain control

But Ndume stated that he expected the President to have gathered the political actors and resolve all lingering differences rather than the proclamation.

He also denied claims that the political actors ignored Tinubu’s directives prior to the emergency rule imposition.

“I feel that the President would have worked seriously on bringing them (and) solving the problem than (declaring a state of emergency). Call them, seat them down and say ‘go and sort your problem.

“How can you ignore the President? When he removed them now, did they ignore the removal?” Ndume queried.

The Labour Party has suspended its Anambra 2025 governorship primary election scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, April 5, 2025, indefinitely.

The Guardian gathered that the suspension was consequent upon Friday’s afternoon long-awaited verdict of the Supreme Court which sacked the national chairman of the Labour Party Julius Abure.

The Supreme Court ordered Abure to vacate the party Secretariat along with his executives at all levels.

The acting chairman of Labour Party in Anambra State, Comrade Peter Okoye, in an exclusive interview with The Guardian in Awka Friday afternoon, disclosed that the governorship primary earlier fixed for April 5,2025 shall no longer hold.

“By virtue of the Supreme Court’s verdict this afternoon, any primary election conducted by any executive outside Senator Nenadi Usman will not stand,” he said.

“The new helmsman and her team would take over the National Secretariat and other structures down the line nationwide immediately.”

Okoye disclosed that he has already fixed a meeting of the acting Anambra State executive for Saturday to formulate a way forward to brief the national secretariat immediately.

He urged “all our teeming and ers to remain steadfast and unshaken in their .”

While describing the Labour Party as the fastest-growing party in Nigeria, especially Anambra State, Okoye assured that issues would be normalised.

He urged every member and stakeholder to be vigilant and await further directives.

French President Emmanuel Macron called on Thursday for European companies to suspend planned investment in the United States after U.S. President Donald Trump announced sweeping global tariffs on American imports.

"I think what's important, and that's all the work that must be done by sector, that the investments to come or investments announced in recent weeks should be suspended until things are clarified with the United States," Macron said during a meeting with French industry representatives.

Macron said no response had been ruled out yet and suggested using the anti-coercion mechanism, responses targeting digital services and looking at financing mechanisms of the U.S. economy.

Macron added that the response to the reciprocal tariffs would be "more massive" than its earlier retaliation to U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs.

Macron called the tariffs "brutal and unfounded" and a shock for international trade, and that Europe must respond "industry by industry".

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently meeting over the revocation order on its permanent headquarters in the Central Business Area of Abuja.

Daily Trust reports that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, revoked the land of the PDP national secretariat over non-payment of ground rent.

The revocation notice was contained in a letter dated March 13, 2025.

The letter titled “Notice of right of occupancy with file no: MISC 81346 in respect of plot no: 243 within central area district, Abuja,” was signed by the Director, Land istration (FTC), Chijioke Nwankwoeze.

Nwankwoeze attributed the decision to the failure of the opposition party to pay the annual ground rents from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, has described the revocation order as “a drive towards totalitarianism and attempt to stifle opposition”.

Ologunagba who disclosed that the order also extended to the temporary and permanent offices, noted that the move is a threat to democracy.

He said, “The attempt by the All Progressives Congress, (APC) government to revoke the Right of Occupancy of the National Secretariat of the PDP is highly condemnable .

“It is aimed at stifling opposition in this country and of course a drive towards totalitarianism. And it is a threat to democracy. The NWC is now meeting and I will get back to you shortly with a detailed response of our party to this development.

“To let you know, how despicable this action is , it is both properties. Both the new one under construction and the one the PDP has been occupying for almost two decades- the Wadata Plaza. It is an attempt to stifle opposition.”

President Bola Tinubu has concluded plans to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, Peoples Gazette can report.

The president’s plan was concluded overnight and the action would be announced in short order, two presidency sources familiar with the matter told The Gazette Tuesday morning.

The rare political edict came as violence rages between Nyesom Wike and Governor Simi Fubara, whom the FCT minister has been trying to topple from power amid protracted political feud.

A presidential spokesperson declined comment about the decision. Messrs Wike and Fubara did not return The Gazette’s request for comment.

A retired military chief Ekwe Ibas has been identified by the president to take charge in Rivers, which is at the heart of Nigeria’s oil industry.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has approved revocation of 4,794 land titles, over non-payment of Ground Rent, for more than 40 years.

In the Central Area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama and Guzape, a total of 8,375 property owners have not paid Ground Rent in the last 43 years.

This was made known in a press briefing by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, and the Federal Capital Territory istration (FCTA) Director of Lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze.

“It should be noted that the FCTA made numerous publications in national newspapers and announcements on broadcast media since 2023, calling on defaulters to pay up all outstanding bills and ground rents. All these yielded little response, as several allottees failed to pay.

“It is important to state that payment of Ground Rent on landed properties in the FCT is founded on extant legislation. It is stipulated in the and conditions of the grant of Right of Occupancy, and it is due for payment on the first day of January, each year, without demand.

“Consequently, a list of land titles in default of payment of Ground Rent has been compiled in the ten oldest districts of Phase 1 of the Federal Capital City (FCC). They are; Central Area District (Cadastral Zone A00), Garki I (Cadastral Zone A01), Wuse I (Cadastral Zone A02), Garki II (Cadastral Zone A03), Asokoro (Cadastral Zone A04), Maitama (Cadastral Zone A05), Maitama (Cadastral Zone A06), Wuse II (Cadastral Zone A07), Wuse II (Cadastral Zone A08) and Guzape (Cadastral Zone A09).

“As at the end of 2024 and up till today, a total of N6,967,980,119 is owed as Ground Rent by 8,375 property owners. In other words, a total of 8,375 property owners have not paid Ground Rent up to last year, 2024.

“A total of 4,794 land titles are in default of Ground rent payment for 10 years and above. This means that in the listed districts, 4,794 property owners have not paid Ground Rent in the last 10 years.

“This is in contravention of the and conditions of the grant of the Rights of Occupancy, in line with the provisions of Section 28, Subsections 5(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

“Consequently, the titles of the properties in default of payment of Ground Rent for 10 years and above have been revoked forthwith.

“A grace of 21 Days is also given to title holders that are in default of payment of Ground Rent for between one and ten years, after which the affected titles will be revoked.”

It is exactly 29 days since bandits invaded Tsiga town in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, abducting a retired army Brigadier General, Maharazu Tsiga, and some other persons.

Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was abducted, alongside nine other residents, on one fateful Wednesday.

The kidnappers had ed the family of the abducted general to demand a ransom of N250m.

A source close to the family told our reporter that negotiations were still ongoing with the view to rescuing the retired army general.

“It is very pathetic that the general and all other captives are still held by their abductors in this holy month of Ramadan.

“I can assure you that negotiations are going on, and our prayers are with him and all other victims who are in captivity,”
the source said.

Another source, also close to the family, expressed fear about speaking with the media, saying with the kind of misinformation making the rounds regarding the general’s abduction, it had become difficult for them to say anything to the of the press.

He, however, corroborated the other source by saying that negotiations were ongoing to secure the general’s release.

Meanwhile, the police command in Katsina State said efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted students of Federal University, Dutsin-Ma.

Spokesperson for the police command in Katsina State, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the police, in synergy with other security agencies, were working to rescue the students and arrest the culprits.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, said although the attackers were yet to make for negotiation about the release of the students, there were efforts to rescue them.

He said the students who were kidnapped were living in an area marked unsafe by the school authorities.

“There are areas that we consider to be the routes of the terrorists, and we have been warning our students against renting a place in such areas.

“We have never had any incidents, either on our campus or in areas we are able to provide security to, but some of our students, who did not heed our advice and warnings, rented places in such unsafe areas,”
he said.

In the early hours of Sunday, gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted four students of the Federal University Dutsinma to an unknown destination.
