STATE: OYO
NAME OF GOVERNOR: ABIOLA AJIMOBI
NUMBER OF TENURE: 2YRS INTO 1ST TENURE
YEARS LIVED IN THE STATE: 27YRS
RATE: 7/10
REVIEW : At the inception of the istration, it was confronted with a high rate of insecurity occasioned by the intractable crisis rocking the state chapter of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The other challenge and perhaps the most devastating one was the flood disaster occasioned by the 26th August, 2011 heavy downpour, just about three months into the istration. It was an incident that exposed several years of decay in infrastructure in the state capital. Hundreds of lives were lost and property worth several millions of Naira perished. The disaster really tasked the istration as many roads and bridges were washed away.
From the initial challenges, the governor could be said to have gained strength and given his istration’s focus. In tackling the problem of insecurity occasioned by the wrangling within the state NURTW, the istration warmed itself to the hearts of both residents and non-residents alike. The hitherto elusive peace in the state capital became a norm, with free movement of people in and around without molestation or harassment by hoodlums.
Aftermath the August 26, 2011 unfortunate incident, the istration embarked on the dredging of streams and rivers across the state to put a halt to the perennial flooding in Ibadan, effect of which has since manifested.
Also, the government have also fair to the workers in of welfare package and job performance enhancement programmes through both local and foreign retraining programmes. The government introduced free bus service for the workers to and fro office all the days of the week in addition to the payment of ‘13th Month Salary’.
Ajimobi in the last two years has made himself a rare governor that exhibits courage and ingenuity in everything he plans and does in Oyo State. This is corroborated by his bold initiative to change the face of Ibadan, particularly and Oyo State through its urban renewal efforts and general development of the rural areas. Before Ajimobi, the face of Ibadan had remained the same rough, dirty and structurally defective in the last 30 years with nothing to show for the years of government and governance in the state which has made it difficult to attract investors to site industry, reducing the state to a teacher’s state without major platform for sustainable human development. The current Road Constructions and Rehabilitation and environmental beautification efforts of government are quite discernible to all, yet everyone can feel the order being brought to motor garages, the changing face of our roads, reduction in the usual traffic snarl and hold-ups being experienced on the roads.”
RECOMMENDATION: With two years still to go, if the governor refuses to allow the agitation for second term to distract him, he has the opportunity to correct some of the identified lapses, especially the resettlement of the displaced roadside traders as well as artisans whose shops and shanties were demolished.

So by your theory, anybody that attempts an overhead kick in a crowded box should automatically get a red card, right? and any defender dare not attempt a volleyed clearance as this will raise his leg above the waistline.

pro01: As important as the 3rd Mainland Bridge is, it's a big shame that functioning street streets are still being discussed. Before anyone blames GEJ, the Lagos State government isn't any better. Even the popular Allen Avenue in Ikeja has not had working street lights for years. These people are all incompetent jokers.
To say the Lagos state Govt is not fixing street lights is ridiculous, the whole of Lagos Island is always lighted, western avenue, eko bridge, surulere, the mobolaji bank anthony way, alausa etc just to mention a few i am sure of. the lights on ikorodu road is being replaced and check all new road constructed by the lagos state government, they are always pre-installed with lights and powered by generating sets.
here are some night pictures i took on the day Mr President locked down major roads just to get to the Redeem camp

The FG cannot be trusted, the toll dey've being collecting @ the Muritala muhammed Airport entrance, what have they been using the money for? Even the tolling point is in a very bad condition. By the way, what will the FG use the vast income they make from crude sale, taxes and duties on, if we'll still have to pay for virtually everything(light, water, road, healthcare)

the only reason we are seeing this kind of action is because the aviation sector actually bothers them more than the road transport sector since they and their families are always flying around. cries have been on on the major inter-state highways(lagos-ibadan, benin-ore, abuja-lokoja etc but the government refuse to budge because they hardly use these roads. intervention my ass.

nigerians and their emotions, all i hear is Okada being the means of livelihood of the riders. i think everybody knows that and it is very obvious. these okada riders are responsible for the death of some breadwinners, legs are being broken and skull being smashed on the highways daily. stay off the highways and trunk 'B' roads. how does this portray the government as being wicked? afterall the use of Okada had been banned in Abuja for a long time and people didnt die of hunger. i only think the okada riders are only been self-centered and foolish (LAZY PEOPLE)

If we truly want progress, then we need to be ready to make sacrifices like this.

each time i open a thread on this ALUU killings. i get more disappointed at most of the comments i read. there are different classes of people herein

1. those that want the arrested suspects killed because the victims are young boys
2. those that want the arrested suspects killed because the victims are students
3. those that want the arrested suspects killed because they feel the victims were innocent
4. those that want the arrested suspects killed because they saw the video of the brutal killing
5. those that want the arrested suspects killed because the victims were cute boys

all the categories above are hypocrites and will all approve such treatment to be meted out on persons as long as it can be proved that the said person is a thief or rogue. some people herein will even approve such treatment to be given to their so much hated agberos and lastma officers

bunch of hypocrites.

Series22: dont pray 4 fashola 2 b your governor, lagos is in serious debts, they need money 2 pay 4 their debts, thats y the govt is desperatly looking for money by enacting new laws.. Lagos state number plate is d most expensive in country, imagin d population of cars in eko (imagin d revenue). Wen fashola adds dis monies 2gether, i.e, fine paid by trafic offenders, toll gates, fedral allocation, sea ports, e.t.c. Atleast , d money go reach 2 pay some of the debts. kudos 2 fashola's economic advisers shaaa (dem d reason).. But d debt plenty o.. Over 500bilion naira o.. Na waoh
bros, you think you are a good economist right? tell me which state is not indebted? your FG has sold bonds up till 2024 despite the huge resources. the basic difference is that Lagos state is using the debt to fix infrastructure that will further boost revenue for the state while the FG borrows to pay salaries, subsidies and executive allowances.

dedeike: Any impeachment threat or move will fly away in the face of these remarkable achievements in one year.

In Finance,

finance ministry is carrying out bio metric evaluation of federal civil servants to reduce waste. The checks revealed the pension scam of over 120 billion. There is the new integrated online payment system which helps the minister monitor transfer of public funds. Our foreign reserves have risen again to 37 billion dollars. There's the proposed Soveriegn Wealth Fund to cater for excess oil sale proceeds.

In Energy, a lot of reforms. The president is keen on transparency and thus has set up probes into the sector viz KPMG AUDIT and AIG IMOUKHEDE. The president sought to close the window of corruption by removing subsidy but the cabal misled Labour into a protest. That notwithstanding, the reforms are still ongoing and the full deregulation of the downstream sector being vigorously pursued. Last week, the FG had concluded the PIB which remains a landmark legislation that will revolutionarize the petroleum industry. Refineries are undergoing repairs and an American company, VULCAN is to build six more new refineries.

In roads, Zaria-Funtua-Gusau roads, Oshodi-Apapa with expansion and drainage works, dedicated bridge frm liverpool roundabout to Tin can ports, trailer park, Dualisation of Ibadan -Ilorin, ENUGU-Onitsha, completion of OWERRI -Onitsha, 9th mile, ongoing reconstruction of Benin-Ore-Sagamu highway measuring over 265 km, Kano-Maidugri Dualisation. Keffi -Akwanga-Lafia, award of Afikpo-Okigwe, Auchi-Okene being handled by Setraco. Loko-Eweta-Karishi bridge, Kolo-Nembe -Brass to mention but a few.

In Transport, massive reforms at the ports. Sanitisation and reduction of operating agencies to 7. Introduction of 24 hrs ports operation. Ongoing Construction of light gauge train railways across t4 cardinal point of the federation

In Aviation, massive reconstruction of major airports in the land, Enugu airport is undergoing total rehabilitation. The domestic wing of Abuja airport is also being reconstructed with expansion of roads and car parks. Same fr the international wing and the kano airports

In Education, establishment of 9 new federal universities in less than 1 year. Constructed 2 new campuses of the Nigerian law schools in Yenagoa and Yola respectively. Launched the Almajiri schools for education of itenerant Islamic pupils in the north wFhich Buhari and other northern leaders abandoned. Increased funding to almost 400 billion to education thereby setting an all time highest record. Reinvigorated the inspectorate oversight of schools leading to the revocation of some licenses from universities. Executed the landmark upgrade of university lecturers retirement age from 65 to 70.

In agriculture, for the first time in our history, we have a clearly defined agricultural policy which is targeted towards maximum utilisation of cassava for growth thru the launch of the cassava bread campaign. The policy is intended to reduce our reliance on imported wheat so as to encourage local production of cassava and it's conversion to flour for bakery. The FG has in less than one year eliminated the middlemen cartel that fed fat on fertiliser distribution at the expense of local farmers. Now through deregulation reforms, fertiliser is now accessible in the open market. he has also embarked on massive construction of silos and has increased import duties on the importation of rice in order to encourage local farmers. The efforts of the minister has been so appreciable that the world bank assisted with over 50 billion Naira for fertiliser redistribution scheme/ silos. The CBN has also set up a 500 billion loan scheme which is to assist farmers.

In power, the NIPP has been revived with the subsequent refurbishment of Afam, Alaoji, Calabar, GEREGU, Omotosho, papalanto power plants. This has led to the addition last December of 4,000 megawatts from barely 1700 to the national grid. To address the problem of distribution, the 18 successor companies have been slated for privatization. The media is already awash with news of the proposed privatization next week. The reforms include the review of tariffs in order to ensure a cost reflective tariff that will encourage private sector participation in the building of gas plants. Already, this has started yielding dividends as SPDC has commenced processes towards building a gas plant in IMO state.

my questions are
1. is she the best person for the job? i dont think so
2. did she show incompetence on the job? i think so
3. has some of her actions further eroded investor confidence? ofcourse

she took no concrete action on the following
- the allegation on Otedola's take-over of AP oil shares without paying a single kobo
- the conspiracy by AP oils and Akintola Williams Deloitte to manipulate AP oil's books and turn loss into profit
- the nationalization of the 3 banks by CBN before the deadline given to them leading to total loss of the investment of the bank shareholders

was it ethical to have staffs of a conpany which u regulate working for you on secondment at a time when the said company had a major transaction going on?

conclusion: is she the Messiah needed to help return confidence to the Capital market. the answer is a very big NO

What's the market circulation and awareness of Swan or Ragolis water today? You will walk your toes off to get a Swan table water but the same can't be said about EVA.

As for the MUDI Africa, it is an ELITE brand. He doesn't cloth for N500 or N2,500 like those road side tailors do.
He is one of the few designers that have made Nigerians proud.

Just googled to find his website and this is it - www.mudionline.com.

@ omosexy1, the point is that the Lagos state government is doing its own bit, but we the citizenry needs to do more. . . those of us that buys bottled drinks in the traffic and drops it out the window after consumption, those of us that would rather cross the highway than use the pedestrian, those of us that would rather bring our wares to the road side than stay in the shops, those of us that always chose not to obey the traffic light just because there's no enforcement officer at sight, those of us that buses when the stop on the express way rather than patiently those that are on the dedicated service lanes just because we feel we are running late. . . we need to change, its our responsibility to be obedient citizens too

Why should he put them somewhere. Did Fashola send them there at the first place? Sorry I am not a market person. I believe in the right thing. I will not go to Suru Alaba and set up a shop when I know that it is clearly illegal and it is not good for my environment. I will not buy a house that is situated illegally and block the very drainage where my own waste and water should flow. I will not leave my house, or village without any plans of survival and embark on a hopeless journey only to end up in the street and live under the bridge and begin to terrorize and rob my neighbours because I want to eat. I do not throw any empty cans or polyethene bags from the window of my car cos I know it would affect my neighbour. I do not park my vehicle on the street and act like I don't care because I know my neighbours would use the road. I do not share the same mentality you do have which I term the "Nigerian disease syndrome" that perpetuates a selfish, non-chalant, corrupt, crime ridden life and make other citizens of the world to despise Nigerians. Please note that your type may make up a huge chunk of the population, however there are people who don't think like you and will always believe, stand and do the right thing.

Be guided

i would have loved to engage u in a dialogue but i really do not have the time to do that much typing. u do have a view to the matter but u r not being objective and u r only speaking theory. the man Fashola is out there doing the practical. people who what the old oshodi, obalende and apongbo looks like would know it took a very strong hand of steel to effect the sanity that now exists in the said places. also the kind of madness the danfo drivers exhibit back then which has atleast been reduced due to the competition the BRT and LAGBUS scheme had created. . .
bros "when u try to effect changes, People fight back and they fight back pretty hard". an easy example is the pedestrian bridges that were built, people refuse to make use of it, they put in more effort into trying to avoid being arrested by KAI than what is actually required to climb the bridge. . . a very pathetic dituation.
may God help nigerians

This's a plane in distress why the handing-over ceremony? It was obvious to the ATC that this plane had lost all its engines in the air and was going to plunge to the ground. What were they hoping that miraculously some angels would suspend the plane in the air? Why did the radar ATC or so, handle this emergency issue? People could have been saved if only they had taken up that responsibility then.
bros, take it cool na, the Lagos ATC would be d one to give directions on the best way to land and which runway to use. its just the standard procedure

madjune: Buzugee, you are so funny. LWKMD too. In as much as the situation looks grim, i think the ministry of aviation will do well by making sure every air enger aboard our local planes is given a parachute and taught how to jump off a plane using one. It's clear that we can have 100% confidence in the plane engines okayed by Indians nor the pilots who are mere humans like the rest of us. God bless Nigeria.
there's usually not enough time to evacuate over a 100 engers as airline situations only leaves the pilot with just few minutes to do whatever they can do

babeface3: I have heard of dual engine failure mainly on long distance flights, not just between Abuja and Lagos, less than one hour; this is terrible. We are talking of both engines suddenly becoming non functional. We need better explanation.

dual engine failures have been experienced by air planes minutes into the flight. the u.s airline that safely landed its enger in the hudson river lost both engines 6minutes into the flight and could not make it back to the airport
